@senorbrightside Yikes! Well, let us know when you hear! And good luck!
@Carly Rae Jepsen Thank you!
-
@senorbrightside Thanks! Wishing you lots of luck. How many programs left to hear from?
-
@Monsieur Vénus We must have really similar interests, as Dorothy Kelly (along with Odile Cazenave) is one of the main reasons I applied. Let's hope for good financial aid packages!
-
@Monsieur Vénus Thanks! Boston is VERY high on my list of schools. But that's the tough thing. 4/5 of my top 5 picks have accepted me. My fifth, Maryland, hasn't responded yet. I have no idea how I'm going to choose. What about you? Is Boston a top pick? Congrats again, and I hope to see you at the open house!
-
@Monsieur Vénus Congrats! I just got their email, too! So excited.
@madamoiselle and @Monsieur Vénus Ok, at this point, UPenn is just trolling. "Just a reminder, you're very, very rejected!" I don't think more than one notification is necessary, sheesh!
@Everyone Hang in there!
-
@Carly Rae Jepsen Congrats on all the acceptances! Do you have even a tiny idea of which school to attend? I know I don't...!
@Green.Mango and @madamoiselle Good luck! You've got this!
-
@Carly Rae Jepsen Well, congrats! Let me know if they mention it. I've got travel plans finalized and stuff!
@Yanaka CONGRATS ON RUTGERS! I know that was your dream school, so yay! And thanks for the Pitt update. I think the quality of a cohort can be pretty subjective, and I'd imagine it changes drastically over time. I would have been more worried if your friend thought the faculty was awful or something.
@awhiterussian I don't know if this helps, but I was 100% positive that I'd bombed my Penn State interview, only to receive a fully funded offer of admission a few days later. We're usually a lot more critical of our performance than the faculty committee. You'll probably be fine. : )
-
@Carly Rae Jepsen Congrats! Planning on going to recruiting day?
@Yanaka Huh. Did your friend mention any specifics? It doesn't look like their placement is any better or worse than that of most programs to me.
-
@awhiterussian Congrats on LSU!
@senorbrightside Thanks for visiting us! I hope you hear some good news soon!
-
@Saltshaker Congrats on LSU! They're a great program, especially for postcolonial studies.
@madamoiselle and @Monsieur Vénus Sorry to hear about UPenn! But you two have some really incredible offers already, so the decision is already going to be difficult!
-
Good morning, everyone! Any good, bad, or indifferent news today? Wishing you all well! Soon, the stress of making decisions will be upon us...eek!
-
@Carly Rae Jepsen Oof. You could always respond, "Thank you so much for your offer. It will be so difficult to choose between your MAPH program and my PhD offers from UNC, Washington U., Indiana, and Stanford. I'll let you know." XD
-
Happy Friday, everyone! Fingers crossed that everyone hears some good news!
-
@madamoiselle Thanks! Yeah, when making my original list, Davis was my first choice. Penn and Pitt (along with Maryland and Boston, who I'm waiting on) were my other top choices. This has gone from an easy choice to a downright overwhelming one!
-
@Saltshaker Yep, I felt the same way. Maybe we went through some sort of wormhole, and it's been three weeks. It was a really fast turnaround!
@Everyone Today is the most newsworthy day I've had this entire admissions cycle. U.C. Davis just got in contact with me. More full funding and such! I'm so excited + so anxious about having to make a decision!
-
@Saltshaker Thank you! And don't worry, it's earlier than their anticipated date by two weeks. You'll probably hear soon! I was interviewed by Dr. Boittin, Dr. Gélinas-Lemaire, and Dr. Jean-François. You?
-
@Carly Rae Jepsen Yeah, I just got the Michigan news, too. But agreed...the decision is already difficult!
@madamoiselle Congratulations!! And thanks! NYU is a great program...I'm expecting a rejection from them any day now!
-
@Carly Rae Jepsen and @Monsieur Vénus Thank you!!
@Monsieur Vénus If it makes you feel any better, I honestly didn't notice. Sleep-deprived people unite!
-
@Everyone Well, apparently my Penn State interview didn't go terribly after all. They just offered me admission with full funding. Am I dreaming?

Could I ask y'all to way in on this? Is it acceptable for me to bring my partner along with me on a campus visit as long as I notify the department that I will be doing so? My partner will definitely have a pretty significant say on where I end up in the fall because she will almost certainly be moving with me and trying to find a job in that city. Because of that, it's important to me that my partner also gets a sense of the place we might be moving.
I almost accidentally clicked "report" instead of "quote". Guess I'm not awake. I'm in the same boat with the partner thing. I think it's probably worthwhile to let the department know you'd like her to come along.

@everyone Thanks for the congrats and stuff! : D
@Pacayas Thank you so much for the extra info. And I'm glad to hear your thoughts on the gender studies program, as I'd be working with Dr. Todd Reeser. We've already emailed back and forth, and I absolutely love his work on masculinities. I'll PM you after while!
-
@madamoiselle Thanks! Second, after Iowa! I'm going to go out and celebrate with some sushi or something!!
-
@Carly Rae Jepsen Congrats on Indiana!
@Everyone I just got into Pittsburgh! Full tuition waiver/fellowship with no teaching duties for the first year, and four subsequent years of guaranteed teaching fellowship! And health insurance, and all that. I'm so excited!
-
@Saltshaker and @madamoiselle Congratulations on the Cornell acceptances!!! And the UVA, @Saltshaker! Sounds like Tuesday was a great day for news!
