Naruto reacted to MentalEngineer in Acceptance Thread
A note on funding for FSU acceptees (@Naruto, @Nichi, @PhDorBUST, and especially any others who haven't posted): annual collective bargaining between the GA union and administration and possible Florida legislation on graduate student fee waivers are both likely to affect the value of your funding package between now and your visit/final decision. You don't have to talk to me specifically, but please keep abreast of this somehow before you commit - the shift might be on the order of a couple thousand dollars depending on how things go, and you should know where things stand before you lock yourself into anything.

Naruto reacted to LennyBound in 2017 Applicants - Intro
Hi everyone. I also did applications again this year, and so figured I should re-introduce myself. So... hello!
Also if anyone gets accepted at Indiana University (either for the straight Philosophy department or for the HPS department), I strongly encourage that you to contact me.
Good luck everyone!

I didn't get an email, but when I just checked my status at Florida State it says I'm accepted.
So, you know, 1. WOO HOO!, but also 2. If anyone applied to FSU, maybe check your status on the website.

Naruto reacted to Duns Eith in Acceptance Thread
Moderator Note: The users of this forum asked for three separate threads for acceptances, waitlist and rejections. For your convenience, please follow these links to the appropriate thread:
Acceptances: (you're already here!)
Waitlists: http://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/86843-waitlist-thread/
Rejections: http://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/86842-rejection-thread/
----- original post follows below ----
Let's start...?
University of Buffalo (SUNY) just sent out some initial decisions. I know of only myself and one other person who have received acceptances. From the survey results, I see that some UK schools have as well (late December):

Naruto reacted to DBear in Forum quieter this year?
This thread could so be a research topic in many disciplines, especially Communication Studies. Very insightful!
I definitely have found the community aspect of this place soothing. I wish there was more action in the Communication forum, but oh well. I feel The sense of familiarity I get from seeing frequent posters like @goldenstardust11 (word game!) is invaluable especially because though I have a lot of friends familiar with grad school life and this whole process, only a couple actually applied this cycle and you can only talk about your applications with non-applicants so much before their eyes start glazing over....
So hope this place stays alive!!

Naruto reacted to Bryterlayter in Venting Thread
I posted about this in another thread but I went to UNM for my undergrad and took courses with the grad students. They used to send out their results pretty late, a few years back it was nearly April 1 and AFAIK it's always past March 1. So I wouldn't worry about getting your results for awhile. If you have any questions about UNM I'd be happy to help.

Naruto reacted to goldenstardust11 in Venting Thread
Eeek. I applied to UNM too and I'd be dying if I saw an NM number come through. In fact, since I submitted every time I see an unknown number on my screen, my breath pauses... Alas, always a telemarketer for me.

ah, cool. I'm not sure what my top choice is, TBH. There are pros and cons to all the programs.

Naruto reacted to Duns Eith in Spare time?
For pete's sake, if van Inwagen can't even use a traditionally known word "univocity" (being univocal), but instead says "univocacy" in a famous essay, then surely a lowly student can have a typo or two in an unpublished work.

Naruto reacted to Duns Eith in Spare time?
I saw a typo in my writing sample the other day, and I was impressed with myself that I didn't even care. I could, technically, have swapped out the file for at least one of the apps when I saw it. Not even gonna care. Whatever. A typo is exactly that: a mistake that even published works by top philosophers make. So what? The reviewers likely won't notice it anyway.

Naruto got a reaction from andaval in Vanderbilt Limbo
When I applied to Vanderbilt two years ago, I received the following message from them on April 11:
" You were preselected for possible admission but we did not contact you before because we did not think there could be a scenario in which we would have a fellowship for you. Although the situation has not changed completely, it is now possible that we may have a slot available for admission with fellowship."
So I'm guessing there's still hope.
