  1. @girgis99 yes, to my utter shock, I just got an email from UCSD inviting me to participate in interviews happening next week. It was a generic email saying that I would be contacted by a faculty member in the coming days and that the interview should be complete by 1/22.
  2. This was the advice I needed to hear right now. The waiting is really starting to get to me, and remembering that I just need to take it bit by bit is helpful. I made it through yesterday with no news, and I can make it through the next few weeks if that's what happens. (But, fuuuu, I hope I hear something soon.
  3. OMG same. I applied to the LTD program, so I'm happy (?) that I don't see any of those coming up on the Survey page, but also very nervous.
  4. @1too3for5 OMG congrats! Is this a call for the on-campus weekend or for an interview with some professors in advance of the campus visit?
  5. I got rejected by UCI last year, so all I know is that they let me know by the end of February. :/ Good luck!!! I hope you get in!
  6. I feel you on this. I was 0/4 last year, and told myself I would come back stronger this year and that this year would be the last time I do it. I really believe(d) that I would get admitted. So, I know it's only early-January, but each silent day makes me feel like "well, what am I going to do if this isn't it?!" Having email notifications turned on is also crazy-making because I'm checking each one like it could be an application email and it's just making me more nuts. ARE WE THERE YET?!
  7. Hello! I'm wondering if anyone has insight into the foreign language requirements of Education PhDs. My friend applied to 5 this year and all required foreign languages, but I couldn't find any mention of them for the eight to which I applied. I'm wondering if they're generally more or less common than in other fields? (I'm also just obsessing over details as I wait for notifications...)
  8. @Espeon congrats! That's awesome news! I love hearing successes.
  9. OMG that is fantastic! Definitely details! I'm on the west coast so as soon as it hits about 6pm here, I tell myself "well, I won't hear anything today" but your experience seems to prove that untrue.
  10. That was a really helpful rabbit hole! And one I wish I would have found before I submitted everything. I was 0/4 last year, and just did the math that if schools notify on the same schedule as they did last year, I only have 59 more days of anxiety, max!
  11. @mjl89 I hadn't heard about the Read Harder challenge. I like it!! I'h I watched the Black Power Mixtape over the break and realized I'd never actually read any Angela Y. Davis. So, I'm reading Are Prisons Obsolete? right now, and will be following that up with Women, Race and Class and Assata Shakur's book Assata. Those will tide me over for January, and I love the idea of meeting each of those categories each month, though some aren't as far out of my comfort zone as others.
  12. @hopefulPhD2017 I think it went well. I sent them a thank you note and they sent me back a very encouraging update with the info that I shared above. Vanderbilt is my stretch school, so I was beyond stoked to hear from them, especially since I wasn't able to talk to any faculty before the application like I did at all of my other schools. I'm hopeful that I'll be invited to come on campus since my work is a really good fit with one of the profs on the call.
  13. I had a casual interview with two professors from Vanderbilt before break and they said that notifications for on-campus interview weekend would all be out by the end of January. I'm hoping I'm included in that, but who knows. I applied to Teaching and Learning.
  14. Most (5) of my schools had a 12/1 deadline and I've heard from one of them, but not the others. I know a few were going to start contacting applications for interviews right after the new year, so I was able to relax during break thinking about how it's not even the new year yet. Now that my vacation from work is over and schools are back open, I'm back to thinking every email notification on my phone might be from a school and being totally disappointed when it's not. I did check the admissions sites over break and the results forum and none of my schools have any entries so I'm trying to chill the F out since it's ONLY TUESDAY.
  15. You can also call the admissions office and explain it to the person who answers the phone. Ask if you can email an identical letter but with the correct professor name. It's worth a shot, and that would get the correct spelling into everyone's hands. Even if you can clear it up with Dr. X, Drs. Y and Z will still read the statement and probably be critical of it.
  16. I have all 8 of my apps in (and complete) for this year, and all of my recommenders have submitted their letters. This is earlier than I managed to get it done last year so I'm able to start worrying and obsessing earlier!
  17. Same. Do they do admits until April 1 or April 15? I'd like to know when my application is going to get flipped to rejected. :/
  18. Agreed. I can't imagine that they'd be handing more out, but maybe their disorganization will favor those of us who have had very bad results with other schools.
  19. FYI, I called the department today (couldn't help it) and they said it would be another 2 - 3 weeks before any more acceptances or rejections went out.
  20. I'd assume that if I haven't heard at this point, it's them being slow with rejections. Even if they are scrambling, I'd think they'd have it together enough to do acceptance and wait list emails. So, logic tells me not to hold out any hope. (but I can't help it)
  21. omg, when are they going to notify?!
  22. I applied but haven't heard anything yet, so I'm guessing I'm going to hear back when they send out all of their rejections.... :/
  23. Same here. I haven't heard anything back yet. :/
