  1. @emhopefulme Yes, definitely! No rejection letter at this point = still hopeful! Also, as @clinpsy said, I have seen some posts here at gradcafe that some people had received offers after 4/15. The dates seemed to vary from later in April to June. Hopefully though our schools let us know well before this!!! The email I got from my school says that they will let me know before or by 4/15, so my hope is that I hear back in two weeks... I think every school has different policy for waitlists, but I think they will try their best to reach everyone by 4/15. We waited patiently to hear back from the schools (although I went back and forth in sending the adcom professor who sent me the email, an email saying that this school is my first choice and that I really, really would like to attend if I got accepted...), so they would return to us with good news soon! (fingers crossed) I hope everyone who is waiting here on this post gets an offer!
  2. Hey everyone... we've rolled into another week of uncertainty and torture...!!! And I am still here. We are merely two weeks away from 4/15, the day which our fate will be decided. I have been occupying myself by working on research projects, distracting myself with Friends marathon, eating comfort food...a lot, and praying everyday that I end up at the school. I don't expect to hear back from my school until 4/11ish, but I really do hope that I would hear back with good news next week. Is everyone hanging in there? I hope everyone would hear back with good news very soon! We are almost there!!!
  3. @Becks_Psych Oh no...I am so sorry to hear that your waitlisted status didn't end up with an offer. I think Clinical Psych is extra difficult to get an offer for its competitiveness. But I am glad to hear that you are going for a masters and that you are excited about that program. You've come so far this time, I am 100% sure that you will get multiple offers next time you apply. Keep up your good work, and thank you for your positivity in encouraging us to get off the waitlist and get accepted. Good luck to you too for your future program!
  4. Although I don't have my own success story for the second application cycle yet (still waiting, still hoping for the best), EVERYONE I know had a better application cycle in the second round. Someone in my lab applied to a program (her alma mater) and got an interview in the first cycle which ended up being a rejection. Then, she applied the second year to the same program and got an offer. Granted, she worked as an RA in that lab, but she did get many, many more interviews and ended up getting offers from almost all the schools at which she interviewed. My point is, although an unsuccessful application cycle may lead you to think that you are not enough, you were probably more than enough, but it was just bad place and bad time. I also think being more specific and refining your research interests would also be crucial. Your CV and experience will be much, much better from what you described in the post above, @hd397. And I do think that you will have a much better chance next year with all those wonderful experiences and accomplishment by the time you apply next cycle. Hope your next application cycle would be fruitful and successful!
  5. Oh no...I am so sorry to hear that, @hd397. My heart dropped when I read your post... it is very disappointing and upsetting to hear that news. I learn everyday how strange this process is. You probably deserved every bit of the opportunity, so I think it was just a bad luck. The "stars-must-align" concept, which is incredibly anxiety-provoking, seems to be very true for the application process. You would definitely have a better chance next year, as you would have much more experience in research/practice and also you would be much better prepared for the interviews. I know nothing would be soothing at this time, but I hope that you regain your peace soon. I wish you the best, and hope there will be better turn out for next year for you.
  6. Thank you so much @NeuroMetro!!! I also hope that the list is getting shorter/people who received offers decline for better choices and that I am one of their top alternates. I completely agree that the best part of the application cycle was getting to know people and building valuable relationships! I made friends with the interviewees who were at the same interview with me and the current grad students at the schools. Also the professors I met at the schools were awesome. It was truly amazing to meet so many talented, brilliant people. This was overall very stimulating and exciting experience!
  7. Wow, that must have been a very difficult decision to make!!! Those are some great programs. I applied to none of the schools you listed, but I am sure your early release of the offers helped out a bunch of people who were on the waitlists, probably are suffering everyday in agony! I wish you the best going forward with whichever program you chose to attend!
  8. Congratulations on landing your top choice program!!! For me, I am waitlisted at my top choice program, and everyday I wake up hoping that the acceptance email is waiting for me. Denver is a beautiful place to be, and the CU Denver campus is just lovely (not to mention their great science programs!). Good luck to you going forward, I hope to hear back from my school soon and share the news!
  9. Wow, that is great news! Congratulations!!! It is certainly encouraging, and brings hope to everyone on the waitlists. It is wonderful to hear that waitlists are constantly getting shorter, and leading to admissions. Hope that we all hear back good news soon and can share success stories here on this waitlist post. I look forward to that day!!!
  10. I think that it means that you are waitlisted. Some schools don't even use the word "waitlist" (the school that I am waitlisted at used this word in quotes...). So it may just mean that you have been placed on their waitlist, and they will let you know by April 15, which is the APA deadline for the students who were initially accepted to make their decisions and let the schools know. In the case that the people who were initially accepted decline their offer, whoever is next on the waitlist will be offered the position. I think when schools contact people may differ from school to school, it may come immediately after the accepted student defers (probably when POI can make the decision on their own), or near 4/15 deadline if the department is sending out offers all at once to the people who are next in line. I am assuming your school is probably doing the latter. Hope you hear back from them soon:)
  11. Hey @psyched55, as a person who experienced a rejection after an interview (which seemed to have gone flawlessly, and I appeared to have a high chance of acceptance as I was called in after a phone interview AND the whole department only had 5 candidates for several faculty...), I can wholeheartedly identify with your disappointment. It is so upsetting to lose something that came so close. Although you may feel that your other option isn't so promising (probably your outlook for this option has been darkened by your recent rejection...), it may still turn out wonderfully. From what I've seen, people usually extend offers to the waitlisted people around 4/15. One of my friends received an offer from a school in the first week of April, and another one said she got an offer 4/11 after being waitlisted. So I gather they at least let you know generally before or by 4/15. Also I have seen some posts regarding waitlists here on gradcafe, that schools can contact people after the 4/15 deadline, in certain circumstances such as a student who had accepted the offer initially and paid the deposit suddenly decides not to attend. I assume these cases are rare, but I feel like nothing is impossible for these strange processes of graduate school application/admission. I hope your other option works out well.
  12. That is a wonderful thing you said, @FeelTheBern. Thank you. I really do hope that everyone on this thread make it to their waitlisted schools, because it is so close we can almost taste it...!!! And so the support and healing for each other goes on until everyone makes it! We are almost there, aspiring psychologists! Hope we all hear back our good news soon. I can't wait to hear everyone's well-deserving, wonderful "successful waitlist story".
  13. Wow, that is excellent! Congrats to you and your SO. If everything works out, I would be heading to NYC too! Thank you for your kind words, I hope to hear back from the school soon and let you all know!
  14. Oh wow, I am glad to hear that everything worked out though:) It is great that you may end up working with someone who you wanted to work with before. It is literally telling us what is meant to be will ultimately happen;) Congrats on receiving several offers! This is very exciting!
  15. Wow, that sounds like a great offer. I wonder what made you to decline this offer, it sounds like an amazing program:) I hope you got another wonderful offer that you will accept!
  16. Congrats!!! Don't lose hope, waitlists can lead to offers!!! I don't know how long the waitlist is for your school, but being in the top tier is certainly wonderful!!!
  17. Hello all! I thought of posting this out of curiosity in everyone's decision for this application cycle. Those of you who received offers, congrats! Have you made your decisions in choosing which school to attend this fall? I am still waiting to hear back so I am not eligible to post anything yet (will come running and post my decision when I hear back the good news *fingers crossed*). Please come and share your exciting news! Where are you headed this fall?
  18. I can completely relate to your anxiety and agony. I have not seen anything posted from the results page for my school after people posted about the interview invites. I am not sure what this means, but I can't really say much about the results page for its nature of being anonymous. Anyhow, best of luck with your program. You have come so far, and I am sure you deserve an offer!!! It appears that people who receive one offer (particularly the "initial" offers from the schools) are likely to receive multiple offers, so hopefully the person received a better offer elsewhere and decides to go there. The fact that the person hasn't responded to the offer may indicate that the place isn't that person's first choice. There's still hope!!!
  19. Oh my gosh! What a stressful situation... The student who received the offer must be either waiting for an offer from their top choice or deciding which school to go if they had received more than one offer. At this point, there is no way of knowing what your chances would be, but if you are the first alternate that your POI has on his list then your chances may be a lot higher than one would think. In my case, I have been placed in the "pool" of candidates on the waitlist for my school as this program the department accepts a bunch of people and take people off the waitlist pool based on the number of declined offer from their initial offers. I know from having been communicating with other candidates who I met on the interview days, they have been put on the same waitlist and they received offers elsewhere and decided to attend those schools rather than waiting (this also happened to my friend last year who had applied to this particular school and she got an offer from this school so close to the 4/15 deadline but she had already committed to another school). For me, this is my first choice, so I decided to wait. I turned down all other offers I received (risky move, but I didn't want other people who are waiting for the offers to go through the same pain as I am going through, when I know I am not going to take those offers). Also I got so close to this opportunity, I thought I have a high chance of getting accepted off the waitlist from this school! From what I hear from my current advisors, the waitlist works in various ways. It could be that they have a single waitlist for the department so the professors who get to pick more students (having a priority of choosing/getting students in that particular application year) may admit those people from the waitlist, although the candidate's overall "rank" on the waitlist may have been lower than some other people. Or, each professor may have their own list and they have the liberty of choosing whomever they wish to admit when the initial offer is declined. In any way, this process is stressful enough I think the best thing that we can do for now is try to think positively and wait patiently until they give an answer. 4/15 is the date our suffering shall end...!!! Ideally it would happen before this date, hopefully bearing good news. Another week of agony begins, hold on tight my fellow waitlisters, we are going to make this happen:)
  20. I switched from clinical psych to neuro, only because I applied to clinical psych last year and did not get in anywhere (I have BA in bio and MA in experimental psych). I heard back from couple places this year from neuro programs. In my opinion, the research fit would be the most important thing. If both programs have comparable fit, I would go with clinical programs because it opens up many more opportunities after you get your PhD. Many of the professors I met at neuroscience programs actually had their training in clinical psychology, and now they are doing research in behavioral and cognitive neuroscience. You can choose to remain in clinical psychology field, neuroscience, or affective sciences. Also, if you decide to go into practice, the transition may be smoother. Honestly, for the funding and extra years for training becomes minor problems if you are looking at the future opportunities once you complete your degrees. Good luck making the decision and congratulations on the successful application cycle:)
  21. Oh, so close...!!! I am sure that the update is a good sign. They may still want you to hold off in accepting any other offers, probably because you are a high alternate. I am doing okay for most days now, but I experience acute feeling of panic/anxiety about the elongated uncertainty time to time. I truly wish you the best. I know we can get off the waitlist and get accepted any day now. Fingers crossed, knock on woods (and all other superstitious rituals that would make our wishes come true!).
  22. Wow, Congratulations! That is great news! It is certainly wonderful and always encouraging to hear that waitlists can lead to admissions. I hope I could deliver the same news soon:) Thanks!!!
  23. How are my fellow waitlisters doing? Hanging in there? April is approaching and I am yet to hear back from my school! I really do hope that the people who got admitted to my program turn down their offer for a better program. For the people who are still holding on to several offers, I understand that it is not an easy decision to make, but please, please let the schools know about your decision as soon as possible when you make the decision.
  24. Yes, my favorite search words on grad cafe right now are "waitlist" and "possible". It did say in my email from my top school notifying me of my waitlist status that they historically had been taking some people off the waitlists and offered positions in the past. Also one of my lab mates who currently are at a wonderful program other than this school was waitlisted at the same school that I am waitlisted, and she was offered a position on 4/11 (which she deferred). So it is very possible that the offer could come very near to the APA deadline (4/15). So I am trying to not let my self feel like a failure just yet and gather positive energy. Yet, I am definitely thinking about my Plan B. Being an international student staying in the US, it makes it really difficult to not know what you would do if you don't get accepted anywhere, and when I have to leave the country if you don't get an offer from a school. I have not completely lost hope and I still think that I can get into this program. I wish every 'waitlisters' the best. Let's hope that the people who got admitted to our top waitlisted programs got a better offer elsewhere and will turn down the offers from our schools:)
  25. I have been accepted to NYU general psych MA after being rejected to the PhD program. It was funny that this happened because I applied with an MA in general psych from another school. Anyhow, I rejected the offer right away to not hold a spot for someone who may really want an offer from this program in hoping that someone would do this for me for another school that I am waitlisted. Also got an offer with partial scholarship from the New School, but deferred this right away as well. Hope you all the best!
