  1. Accepted into Queens College's MA in Data Analytics and Applied Social Research for Fall 2016!

  2. Accepted into Stevens Institute of Technology's Business Intelligence and Analytics program for Fall 2016!

  3. I just finished my rough draft of my personal essay and would appreciate feedback. I am going for a Master's in Data Science/Analytics/Business Intelligence and my quantitative scores on the GRE were only slightly above average, so I feel like I need to present a really good image to overcome that. I began this document with the questions I was trying to answer, which I believe can be applied to any statement of purpose. I then provide a step by step outline of the points I am trying to make so that you know the intention and purpose of what I wrote. Thanks a ton! If anyone would like to swap, I'd be happy to read yours, but it might have to wait until after I take the GREs again next week.
  4. I'm getting very confused as to when I must submit my application for Master's programs. It seems like people are already getting acceptance or rejection letters and I haven't even submitted an application yet. Additionally, the schools I am applying to all have deadlines in the summer, ranging from June to August. Are they just formal deadlines and in reality those who submit it earlier have a greater chance of acceptance? It seems like most of this website is dedicated to PhD applicants, so I'm curious if most posts are only referring to PhD programs. Or are there multiple waves and I would be aiming for the last wave before the semester starts? I know some Master's programs do have earlier deadlines. What worries me is one of the schools I want to apply to told me I should get my application in by April if I want a good shot, even though their deadline isn't until June. Is that just them making it easier on their administrative staff, or should I really push myself to get everything in within the next week (resulting in less than ideal SoP and GRE scores).
  5. Thanks for the feedback 1) What is the timeline for applications for Master's programs? All I see on here is people receiving acceptance and rejection letters which makes me think I'm really far behind. Is that just for PhD programs? Is that for people who are really ahead of the curve? Are those a different wave of deadlines? In short, do I have enough time to retake the GRE when I just took it this past week. 2) I did take some Coursera courses in the Data Science Specialization which taught R - is that something I should put on my resume? Will they honor Calc/Stats courses not through a university - none of the universities I've seen offer those courses in the summer.
  6. Based off of those who have been accepted or denied, I'm looking for a rough estimate of my chances at acceptance into a Data Science/Analytics program. A consensus may indicate whether or not I should invest in hedging my opportunities with alternative paths for the upcoming semester. Here is my profile: Undergrad: Bachelor's of Science in Finance in 2008 from local university (ranked 100+) 3.87 overall GPA 3.94 Major GPA with top honors (and an award) Work experience: Past 4 years working in Business Intelligence Proficient in SQL 2 years of prior business experience Internship (in compliance) from a highly regarded investment bank. GRE: 313 159 V 154 Q 4.5 AWA Concerns: I don't have a CS, Engineering, or pure Math background My undergrad GPA was from 8 years ago, my Quant GRE score was from this month I don't have any Calc coursework and only one basic Stats course (willing to take concurrently if possible) Places I'd like to apply: Rutgers Stevens Institute of Technology New Jersey Institute of Technology Fordham Any feedback is more than welcome!
