Fall 2020 Clinical/Counseling Interview Invites
Yep replied to justacigar's topic in Psychology Forum
Hi, I was offered an invite to interview at UCA two weeks ago. I know its next week and its a one day interview. I pulled my invite so if you havent from them, you most likely didnt get in. -
Yes! The second I accepted my #1 choice. I thought it was fine to wait a day and got acceptances offers from other programs, the second ranked applicant got a waitlist (which sucks). I felt bad and I responded quickly to give them enough time to immediately go to their second choice and give the good news.

if you didnt get an interview 99% you didnt get in. Sorry for being blunt. At most, you might get a masters offer from them. I got that last year
-
Just cancel. Open a stop for someone else. I got accepted to my top choice and had to cancel 5 interviews. Everyone except one took it well.
-
Hi that is Me! Message me idk how to do it on the mobile site
-
Check the application portal. All interviews were sent out and I’m pretty sure the interview day has passed. I got my rejection.
-
Hey! It sounds like you have all the pieces to succeed but you most likely wont get many offers with your GRE scores. Just based on your GPA & experience, I assume you have issues with standardized tests or you didnt study. I highly suggest you grind and take the GRE again.
-
Yes you should be competitive
-
Forsure don’t have to get this high of a score to compete unless your going for a top 50 program. Realistically you need roughly a 157v/155q to compete if everything else in your application is in order.
-
Man the struggle is real to find an RA position
-
Look into Kentucky or uga
-
What’s some of your opinions about applying to a program that you interviewed with and did not get in?
-
It’s all about the programs you are going for. top 50 clinical PhD progrAm in a big city? Look for high 157-161 for each section. Funded program in the south? Mid 150’s partial or unfunded programs? Low 150 Counseling PhD? Mid 150 a school will not choose you based on your gre scores. The goal is to make the cutoff so your application will go through to the next process

If you don’t mind, can I ask how you are finding psychometric & RA positions, I am struggling to find both in my area and in general.

Fall 2019 Psychology - Where are you going?!
Yep replied to dancedementia's topic in Psychology Forum
I’m going to Fordham in September as well ?? -
Hi everyone, I'm prepping to apply to a majority of counseling programs. Hopefully, will have a list of 22-24 programs of full funding, partial funding, and non funding programs. It might be challenging because my research interest is masculinity & help seeking behaviors but I’m feeling good about this cycle. If anyone knows mid tier programs that have PI with similar research, LET ME KNOW!

This sounds awesome! I sent you a message.
-
if you dont mind me asking, where are you finding these research coordinator positions?
-
Thanks for posting this! I am working on the applications now. Any tips?

Hi Everyone, With the 2019 application cycle ending, I wanted to get everyone's input on how interviews went with faculty, POI, and current Students. I interviewed 2 times this cycle and got some great insight. I am interested in hearing about successful interviews and how an applicant answered a specific challenging question or a question on research. In addition, I asked for feedback from the 2 programs and got some great critical feedback to improve my interview skills for the next cycle. I interviewed for: Denver University (PSYD)- This was the strangest interview by far. I was asked a lot of questions about my current enrollment, thoughts about art, and less about my experience, skills, and why I want to be in the program. Some example questions were: -What is a piece of art that impacted your life in the last five years? -Dead or alive, three people you would want to have dinner with? -Teach me something I do not know I felt unprepared for these type of abstract questions, especially coming from a clinical psychology research program. Texas Tech University (Ph.D- Counseling Psychology) this interview was very extensive. I spent a total of 4 hours with the POI interviewing with her and discussing research. In addition, I interviewed with 6 other faculty members. -ultimately, i felt I was close to getting into the program but the POI's feedback explained that I did not ask questions about the other faculties research interest. Please reply with your experiences.

I agree. I fell into similar fatigue going through applications and even cut schools because of issues with transcripts not arriving on time.- 16 replies
