CajunSLP18 got a reaction from SLP2BNY in SLP vs AuD
My dream is to be a AuD, but I can’t move so boo. I was accepted to be a SLP though, YAY! I prefer AuD almost for the sole purpose of how black and white it is audiology has text you run, in a particular order for the most part, and you get diagnosed with XYZ, and get a HA. Obviously more complicated than that, but you get the gist. With Speech and Language, it’s so vague. Who knows what is going to work for a certain client. That scares me.

I have heard it is less competitive than other LA programs. I go to UL.

UL sends out emails first, and then you get a letter later.

I got accepted to UL! I don’t believe they are going in any particular order. I know an A, M and V who have received letters so far!

I am applying to UL! I am there for undergrad right now. All I need to do is submit my LOI. This is so nerve-racking.

I'm from central Louisiana and made the drive to NSU almost every day for six years through my MA, so understand how a 100 mile drive, in addition to having a little one is just too much. Hate that drive over the basin. I always ended up going 190 into BR, but that's way out of the way for you.

Lol I know where LSU is. I am from this area! Unfortunately I am also 27w pregnant and due in January (like the week school starts my final semester). So a 2 hour (at least, you never know with the BR bridge and the Atchafaylaya) could be 3 hour commute each day is not plausible. Before I found out I was pregnant, I was absolutely okay with the commute. Now not so much with a 6 month old.

I go to undergrad at UL and I believe they went out last year around the 15th. I have not heard any whispers around here.

My best advice is just worry about your grades as soon as you start college. I've seen so many people say they wish they would have tried their first couple of semesters. Nothing haunts you like a bad GPA lol. I didn't even know these programs existed.

I am also a non traditional student so I kinda understand. I can only apply to one program (well I could apply to a second one with a hr commute each way). I try to visit my professors in their office hours after tests. Also, I'll pop in and say hello from time to time. I also am pretty vocal in class discussions. I just want them to know my face when they see my name.

This is the SLP forum... My somewhat educated guess is that there would be a 75-90 (???) percent decrease in the number of SLP grad students if we all followed your advice. I think that what you're saying is appropriate for most grad students. But the reality for this field is that there's just not very much funding. On the flip side, we're all virtually guaranteed jobs once we're certified. Not sure if that's true for most graduate students.

270/340???  How does that translate to today's scoring for the GRE?  I don't think it's wise to dispense advice about people "reconsidering career choices" based on a practice test score, or on their first GRE attempt for that matter.  Apparently you didn't read all of the posts above, because as I mentioned in mine, I scored 62 points higher on my GRE exam than I did on my first practice exam.  This isn't that uncommon among those of us who haven't studied math in years.  Where exactly are you getting your data from?

Thank y'all so much. I have about a year to take the GRE and get the score I need. My cumulative GPA is 3.89 and 4.0 in my major. I'm just a horrible standardized test taker. I would hate not to hit that "300" mark that I've been told you need to get in at my school. I downloaded that Magoosh vocabulary app, so I plan on starting to use it soon. Also, after I finish with my summer semester tomorrow, I'm going to try to take a practice test.
