Same, I've been getting emails from schools about applying and they always have similar spellings to one's I'm waiting on. -

Harvard has a scholarship for people from my country, but you need to be accepted to receive it so I was waiting to hear back before wasting their time, since their deadline is more than a month away. 10 minutes after receiving my official Harvard rejection I received an email from Harvard saying that I can apply to this grant if I want! Thanks! Please tell the department to accept me and I will gladly take your money. -
Anyone else doing comp lit?

Got an official Harvard rejection (email to check website). Disappointing but expected. -

Has anyone applied to Princeton or UCLA? Comp lit is a smaller group and I was wondering whether I can expect to know when they start notifying. -
Got the official Michigan rejection. Oh well. Grateful that they got it over with quickly (relative to acceptances being sent). Also, why do programs think it's reassuring to know that there were a lot of candidates? Like, in my mind, it's "oh, there were 250 applicants? so you're saying I'm not good enough to crack a spot? kthanxbye".

2018 Acceptances

Is the CUNY result legit? Since it said City College I was wondering whether someone made a mistake or whether it was a different program somehow. Also, given the time of day, I'm assuming that there are no more Brown acceptances. Then again, there were phone calls over the weekend so who fucking knows how any of this works. -

The meaning of 'later today' is really going to haunt me until I go to sleep. -
So, I'm wary of posting here in case I later do get accepted, but right now I'm looking at 2 straight rejections (and both have been fairly emphatic: I realize now that Cambridge is still in the process of accepting and rejecting candidates, which means that I was probably rejected very quickly in the process; Chicago did not even offer to rip me off with their MAPH), and a host of implied rejections. It's not looking good and feeling worse. I applied to A LOT of schools in an attempt to maximize my odds, but still aimed for the very top which might have been a mistake. However, some of these schools really were a perfect fit and I hoped that would help. I'm still holding out hope that some of these silences will turn into acceptances, or that I make it off an invisible waitlist someplace, but more and more I am thinking that I should have aimed 'lower' and that this will be painful.

Wow congrats! That’s super early too, do you have any more info? Like who contacted you, etc.? -

Congrats! Seems very weird that they called on a Saturday morning though. Was it the DGS who called you? Do you have any other info on how they’re proceeding? If they are indeed calling every applicant I don’t suppose they’re quite done. -
I have asked many professors for help and to read stuff and usually they will do it but it might tale a long while because these sort of things aren’t really in their job description. Just go to their office and politely ask for the help you need and make sure to make it easy for them (i.e giving them printed copies to read, giving them ample time, etc.). Just make sure you’re not asking for something too broad or arduous and you’re good.

Also wondering, especially since it states website notification and I see no change. It’s a weird department though, so who knows. -

You would think so but English always has more applicants than comp lit so I think it is a PERSONAL VENDETTA AGAINST ME SPECIFICALLY. -

I KNOW it’s not, but it feels like with every school I applied to, it’s the department I didn’t apply to that has notified first. UPenn English? Comp lit notified. Stanford comp lit? English notified, and so on. I am so glad to be back in school so the days go back quicker and every day more and more dominos fall.
