MA programs still accepting apps?
WildeThing replied to automatic's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Thanks, will do! -
50% to everyone, an additional 10% fellowship, only tuition (no fees or stipend). That means about 26k out of pocket plus living expenses for 2 years or a year and a half. There are no fellowships you can apply for until you’re inside though there are competitive fellowships once you’re a student. No teaching opportunities, only possibility is a research assistantship with a member of faculty but those are also not available to incoming students. I can’t think of any other way to cover the expenses but 60% off tuition is the max the department will offer to anyone apparently.

I’m sorry, though barring me winning the lottery in the next few weeks I will likely be rejecting the offer so hopefully that helps you (or anyone else) out. -

Jumping on the hate-to-read but love Lacan bandwagon. -
Anyone else doing comp lit?

Very brief email from Comp Lit DGS (Karen Pinkus I think) this afternoon. -

Has anyone been rejected from NYU without being offered the MA? Is there any variety between funding offers? I see 50% and 60% as the two that have been stated so far. -

Thanks, just means I need to reflect more on what I’m doing. Also add official Stanford and Cornell rejections today. -

Officially rejected from Princeton, so just waiting on UCLA now. -

I might take you up on that once the rest of the dominos fall, but as a foreigner my payment avenues are very limited so it just might not be feasible, regardless of whether it is practical. -

I guess I'll post it here, thought it's not really an acceptance. Got a personalized email for NYU on my rejection from the PhD program, but I was accepted to the MA program. All students receive a 50% tuition waiver (not for fees). No teaching or additional funding opportunities. I've asked for more information but without full funding I'm not sure how I would be able to accept it. -

Woke up to an email from Oxford Graduate Admissions... it was a survey. -
Thanks for the update! Though at this stage I'm accepting this cycle as a loss and don't want to get my hopes up.

Congrats, you mind sharing any info on UVA? -
So, I would say that you shouldn't be applying anywhere you don't want to go, but that's not very helpful now. Personally, I would take the spot and see how you feel there, you can always reapply anyway, but there are no guarantees that you will get a better spot and you probably won't get your current offers. Consider what you're going to be doing in the year off and whether that will be better or worse for your application than staying. So, while I'm sure some people will tell you that you shouldn't go anywhere you don't want to go, and that the spot will be better served going to someone who will appreciate it, I'd warn you to be careful as this is a very competitive environment and you should take what you can get. Ultimately, there are a lot of factors and you need to figure out whether the place you've been accepted to will make you happy, satisfy your career goals and allow you to thrive.

Waiting on Princeton, expecting it at the end of the week based on past years. Cornell seems to have started notifying a long time ago so I have it down as an unofficial rejection. -
Af-Am Roll Call

Would you care sharing what schools? I’m wondering if we can discover any trends or figure our chances out by pooling the info together. -
Curious as to how anyone with an interest in African American lit has done this cycle, especially since I'm mostly seeing Early Moderns, Modernists and Victorianists on the board. I'm mostly in turn of the century narrative, fyi.

Just checked, same here. First official communication that has not been emailed.
