  1. What kind of prior did you use? Can we see the posterior?
  2. Yep. I wonder if the whole recommendation to the graduate school is something along the lines of as long as the Graduate school doesn't find something crazy and undisclosed about you, you're in
  3. For those wondering about Vanderbilt: They have sent out open house invitations but you can still be admitted even if you weren't invited to the open house (I don't know how likely it is but there's still hope)
  4. Seeing a Harvard biostatistics waitlist. For my friend who has ants in his pants has anyone who had an interview heard from them? edit: Ok I found out that a few people have been accepted and I see one waitlist.
  5. Your profile seems as good as any I have seen when it comes to GPA (with > 85 percentile on the math GRE I can only assume you have taken a fair share of analysis and algebra) , pubs, gre scores so I am just as puzzled as you are. Where were you waitlisted and where are you waiting to hear back from? You said you are a few years removed from academia so maybe that is playing a role? Can you clarify what you mean by 'minor' publication?
  6. I just got off the phone with Michigan Biostats (applied for their PhD) and we talked about my research interests (which is every topic ever) and had my questions about the department answered. Like others have mentioned they are about 2 weeks out from releasing decisions.
  7. I applied for their PhD program but if I were to receive any admission I suspect it would be in their MS-PhD fast-track A friend of mine received a call on Friday which primary was to let them know that decisions would be out in the next two weeks which I imagine is what this call will be as well
  8. Received an email from Michigan biostats to setup a call this week to go over my interest and details of the department.
  9. Did you interview with them?
  10. Friend got a phone interview at Vanderbilt. She applied for their PhD
  11. Also if anyone really wants to know when decisions are coming just call the departments and ask. When friends or I have called its always been a non issue to relay information.
  12. Yep I received it this morning and just RSVP'd. Are you going to visit?
  13. Vanderbilt biostats is finishing up their review of applications and hope to send out invitations to their open house within a week
  14. I think funding comes later. Looking through past threads I see some people get word about funding in March while others find out in February. I'm speculating that at least one more wave of acceptances is coming and if you were apart of a recent wave then I would think your chances at being offered funding are good (this is pure speculation). Congrats on your offers!
  15. Thank you. You are correct there wasn't a mention of the visit for this year but I found this http://sph.unc.edu/bios/unc-biostatistics-doctoral-program-visit-days/ and assume this year would be roughly the same
  16. I see they have some training grant spots but also saw in their manual onlu having 5 out of state tuition waivers. I imagine many would have to turn them down without full funding
  17. Where did you hear they fixed it? I do know the funding stuff comes a little bit after the acceptance letter but not sure when.
  18. It's still early for many traditional stats programs and without knowing where you applied don't worry yet
  19. What programs did you apply to?
  20. I think that so few past applicants return to these forums and your questions would be happily answered by the department. I know there is a visit day in February but information about that hasn't been released (at least not to me)
  21. I think stats and biostats graduate programs are going to see more and more applications for a while. 1) Mainstream interest in Data science has been exploding and the insane amount/ways data is being collected by the healthcare industry will only increase the rate of demand for statisticians. 2) We're seeing some pretty insane growth to our economy and the new tax plan should keep that ball rolling. When an inevitable recession does hit and the entry level job market is less attractive, graduate schools will see even more applications depending on the severity of the pullback (e.g 2008).
  22. but what kind of ice cream?
  23. What kind? Where else are you applying to?
