I've been invited to a interview/visit weekend and I'm also terrified, especially since I can't fully get a read on whether it's an interview weekend (i.e. me trying to impress them) or a recruitment weekend (i.e. them trying to impress me)

this may also be discipline-specific but most program websites I've seen specifically say not to email the department asking about your application, as they have a lot of applications to work through and will inform everyone when they've come to a decision. if they have this policy and you email them anyway, like @PsyDGrad90 says you risk annoying the department, which won't help anything.

I guess it depends on the school, and if you get invited, they should tell you. I was invited to a prospective student weekend at UMichigan, and they told me in the invite how much they were willing to contribute towards my flights for me to attend.

I’m the opposite, interview from UMich and nothing from UPenn haha

I was deeply in the clutches of impostor syndrome after being rejected from OSU, but I got an invitation to a campus weekend at Michigan the same day!

I just got my first decision last night and it was a rejection, and impostor syndrome is definitely wrapping its familiar arms around me as well

turns out the nervousness was justified, one rejection down, five schools to go...

I've also hardcore procrastinated some freelance work that I never really wanted to do in the first place and now I have to transcribe like 12 hours of interviews in the next two weeks, welp also I checked admissions data from past years and for at least two years OSU linguistics decisions have apparently come on 18 January... I take it back, I didn't actually want to know that

the results search on this site is really starting to stress me out... people have heard back about other subjects at my schools and my subject at other schools. when is it my turn???

most of my hobbies are things I can do anywhere -- reading, writing, baking, swimming, Netflix (not always in that order) but there's an organisation I've volunteered with since I was 11 (23 now) that's really close to my heart, and I'm a little bit concerned because only one of the schools I applied to is close to a chapter, all the other ones are at least an hour's drive away, and I don't think I'd be able to balance that kind of time commitment with grad school, and I don't want to leave the organisation behind for five whole years. I'm also hoping to adopt a cat, because my dad is allergic and none of my undergrad housing allowed for pets so I've never had the option before.

the results section is both the best and worst thing to ever happen to me tbh also people have heard back from linguistics but not at any of my schools, and from my schools but not for linguistics, and the combination is really beginning to stress me out

I keep vacillating wildly between "I'm sure it'll be fine, I'm sure I'll get in somewhere" and "I'm never going to get into grad school and my retail-working gap year will just keep extending until one day I wake up and this is just my life now" I also spent most of December firmly telling myself that there's no way anything would happen before Christmas, so now that that's over... the email-refreshing has commenced with a fury
