    January was over so quickly and I was happy about that thinking February will be the same, but nooo I am waiting for two more decisions (UIC and UMN Twin Cities) and of course the funding email from Davis.

    Thanks @phdthoughts I'm still waiting for that funsing email from Davis, hope I will get it tomorrow. In the meantime I got a rejection from UCSB, so that's two rejections in one day but I don't feel sad at all, I expected both rejections. That didn't stop me from eating a comfort pizza for dinner - just to be safe

    @2ManyTacos I have a good feeling about UW - they sent me a rejection letter more than a week ago, so I would say it's good that you still haven't heard from them.

    Same here. I've never been to an American university or talked to a professor from US before applying, so during the application process I was constantly wondering if I'm doing things the right way - am I focusing on the right things while studying for GRE and TOEFL, does my SOP have the right structure and content, did I choose my schools wisely... My self confidence was really low, especially because of the lack of research experience. I had an impression that you guys all know what you're doing and I'm the only one who came from another planet But I guess in some way everyone felt like that. This is not an easy thing to do and I hope that we will all be rewarded for our time and effort. It should be over soon!

    @GreenEyedTrombonist that's wonderful, you must be excited to become an aunt I heard from other people too that Davis is not super expensive and I believe my husband and I would manage to live comfortably over there, but the problem is tuition. We moved to US less than a year ago and don't have any savings, so I will not be able to accept anything less than full tuition waver

    I had an amazing conversation with a POI from UC Davis today it was such a self confidence booster! He emailed me first, saying he would like to get to know me better and then we talked for half an hour over the phone. This was my first direct contact with US faculty and I am absolutely thrilled. In Serbia I had to chase professors down the hallway if I had a question, so this was a really nice change. He repeated several times that he hopes I will accept their offer and I was honest with him about funding being a major issue for me. I should get an email with funding details tomorrow, can't wait! The professor also asked me what other schools I've applied to and told me I was one of their top candidates. The Comm department accepts 4-8 PhD students every year and the majority of them are international, which I like. So I guess I will have to wait and hope for the best. California is so expensive and also it will be so hard to choose between UC Davis and Purdue, which is a great school as well. I hope this is going to be over soon. I am still waiting for 4 more answers. Good luck everyone!

I'm still waiting for my funding letter from UC Davis. @GreenEyedTrombonist sorry to hear that good luck with other schools! @DBear thanks, I wasn't sure @pizzapassion my status for UCSB is still "submitted" too. I guess I'm out, but I don't mind. After visiting Santa Barbara I was kind of sorry to have applied there because my husband probably wouldn't be able to find a job, since it's a tourist place and he's a welder.

    Welcome to Grad Cafe Are you talking about UW Seattle? If the answer is yes, I would say it's a good sign and you're maybe on the waiting list or something. In the rejection email I received a week ago they told me they received 186 applications for fewer than 10 spaces.

    @heyDW do you know anything about decision dates for Mass Communication at U Minnesota? I am checking my application page every 6 hours, still "awaiting decision".

    Congrats to @DBear and @The Shade King! Madison is a great town. FYI they have the best brick oven build your own pizza ever! The place is called Lotsa, the address is 506 State Street. I visited Madison with my husband two months ago just to take a look around, since UW Madison was one of the schools I applied to.

    Their website is not really informative. To be honest, the main reason I applied to UIC was that I am living in Chicago currently, so I wanted to have that option too.

    What is the best source for PhD program ranking? I am trying to compare Purdue and UC Davis, but I couldn't find Davis on any of the NCA lists.

    UC Davis - Accepted on February 2nd. No info on funding, though...

    It's me again - just got an acceptance letter from UC Davis wooot wooot They didn't mention funding, though... Anyone here willing to donate 50.000 to an aspiring young PhD wannabe? The letter said I should contact the graduate advisor regarding any information about financial help, so I will email them right now. I confirmed that some universities just don't want to bother with changing the status of our applications. My Davis page still says "submitted", as well as my Purdue page (accepted two weeks ago).

    @DBear I love your comments, they always make me laugh As someone who is hoping to become a mother one day while doing PhD at the same time, you made me worry even more. I know people say it's possible but I guess it's also really hard. @GreenEyedTrombonist I really hope you will get at least one answer soon. @heyDW Halo Top sounds great, I will google it I have a question for you guys that already have MA. Why did you decide to move on to PhD? What's the job market like when it comes to this - will you have more chances for a good job with PhD? Considering both my BA and MA are from Serbian university, I thought I could never find a job in journalism/comunnication industry. I applied to many ads but no one called me, so that just confirmed my initial plan about PhD that I made before moving to US.
