  1. @DBear wow you're right, I didn't notice that. I should update my signature to show exactly where I got accepted. I think this way we could all see if we got accepted to same schools. @d.grace I will send you a private msg regarding Purdue. Can I just say how happy I am to see more and more people having something to put under "accepted" :D
  2. @dundermifflinpaperco welcome and congrats for being accepted to two schools already! I love your nickname
  3. Sending good vibes from Chicago to the Universe
  4. Right, I don't know why I said international students - a new environment is a new environment, wherever you came from. @DBear Congrats once again! Wohooooo!!!
  5. I agree. Also, many grad students are complaining about feeling lonely and isolated from the rest of the cohort. This is my main concern. I am an introvert, but so far I had many close friends and during my school and undergrad years I've never felt like an imposter. But now I'm in a foreign country and I wonder how that will turn out. I'm sure other international students share my concern.
  6. That's so great!!! Congratulations I can imagine your husband's excitement when he saw the answer. I am glad people are posting here, too. I am checking the forum several times every day. So far I read 14 pages of "Officially Grads" thread and now I am even more confused. Some people are like "omg grad school is about to start, I should give my dog to someone and stop doing yoga, I won't have time" but others are saying that grad school is like a 9-5 job and one can relax during the weekends.
  7. I am surprised they require TOEFL if you already have a US degree. Most schools don't require it if you had at least 4 years of education in US. Because of my permanent resident status, I am considered to be a domestic applicant, but I had to take TOEFL because I got my BA and MA in Serbia.
  8. I just realized you're talking about Rhetoric and not Mass Communication. Have you seen this post on the results page?
  9. Yay That's awesome! ICR is a great school, I wanted to apply too, but decided to give up, thinking it was too good for me. I just googled Morgantown. As I can see, it's in the middle of nowhere, just like Lafayette, but it's much smaller. I was reading about Purdue in the last couple of days and people say it's a great school, surrounded by a diversity and tolerance "bubble" (that doesn't stretch out to the rest of the town). So I hope I will meet great people and have some kind of social life after all, if I end up going there.
  10. I am actually relieved that I got admitted by at least one school. Now I am waiting for 6 more responses. Purdue is a great university, however, I still can't imagine living in Lafayette IN after 10 months in Chicago... Maybe their Welcome Weekend one month from now will change my mind.
  11. My status page for Purdue still says "submitted" and I have received an acceptance six days ago. OMG that's sooo frustrating! I hope they will update it soon. This is what I found in the top right corner of the application page: Please allow one business day to view your decision once your status on this page has been updated to Decision Made. Yeah, please allow one business day of living hell! Mine still says "awaiting program decision". Maybe it's a good sign for you When did you submit your application?
  12. Thanks! Your picture is so cute I love coming to this forum and I hope this thread will soon come alive even more.
  13. US actually is "abroad" for me - I moved here 10 months ago from Europe I know exactly how you feel, but try thinking about something else as much as you can. Live your life as you normally do, until you get those emails. I know it's hard... I was lucky to receive the first of my 7 expected responses the other day and it was a YES, so now I can relax and wait for the rest, including Minnesota.
  14. I am waiting to hear from them too. Were you using this link to check? https://app.applyyourself.com/AYApplicantLogin/ApplicantConnectLogin.asp?id=UMN-GRAD Mine still says "awaiting program decision".
  15. I'm sure you will I don't know how reliable it is to look for decision dates from previous years, but as far as Purdue goes, they sent me the email on almost exact date as they were sending emails last year - this time it was actually one day sooner.
  16. Congratulations from me as well! It's always great to hear some good news
  17. I saw this too and I couldn't believe it. I mean, people who usually visit this forum are in the same boat as we are, I don't understand who would mess around with us... I wanted to apply to Urbana myself, but I gave up after a friend told me she knows many people who applied and got rejected. Now I think it was a stupid decision because you never know. I saw someone posted about having an interview for UCSB the other day, but now I don't even know if I should believe in anything I read.
  18. I can't believe I am the first person to post here Purdue - Accepted on January 18th
  19. I was checking my application every day and then all of the sudden I received the email about Welcome Weekend - my application status was "awaiting decision" even after receiving this email. Confusing... I hope you will hear from them soon. I still don't know why I haven't received the acceptance letter they sent yesterday. Thank you and thanks to everyone else. This IS possible after all, guys If I made it, you will too.
  20. Nika, if you ask me, the time to start panicking started 28 years ago when I was born so I think my opinion doesn't count. I am checking this thread on a daily basis, hoping someone will post something.
  21. OMG I can't believe those things still happen in grad school! Can you send me the link to your post? I'm curious now
  22. It's so nice to see a positive experience. I just applied to 7 grad schools and I am currently waiting for responses, being really worried that PhD is going to be too hard for me. I am not a native speaker, I moved to US from Serbia 9 months ago. I graduated Journalism at Faculty of Political Science in Serbia and then got my MA in Communication at the same University. Now I applied for Communication PhD. What do you mean you are being paid to go to school? I suppose you have a full tuition waiver, but are you saying that you are already getting your "salary" even if you still aren't TA?
  23. GreenEyed thank you and I hope you don't mind I stole the signature too
