  1. Hey, I see one post on the results page for Northeastern! Anybody else heard back from them?
  2. Yes, this is real annoying.. I had planned my exit from my job by end of this month hoping for a couple of results at the very least.. Either way I have to re-think everything and start life afresh. This is just delaying that process, causing a lot of unbearable anxiety.
  3. Congrats to all the Toronto admits! I had also applied there, safe to assume I'm rejected.. and no other acceptances yet. and despite all the pessimism brewing up inside me, I feel so warm when I read all these encouraging comments in this forum. Makes me all the more want to be part of the graduate community
  4. Hi all, Crazy time: no admissions and lots of overthinking Can any international applicant tell me if they receive offers later than the usual decision timelines?
  5. Hi, Not in a place to judge your competence, but my interests are just about the same - so I hope we get to do what we want to do very soon! Good luck!
  6. Yes, there is a whole other month to be anxious.... haha, but yes, i've applied to 8 programs including UNC, UoT and Princeton. i'm interested in the sociology of work & the city. What about you? was UCLA one of your top preferences? you can officially relax then!
  7. I know.. it would be indeed better and it seems to be a terrible time to quit (as i wait for the results) but what's the point in doing something you really don't care about.
  8. Thanks for this thread! It is indeed an anxious time. Worries: I'm worried that I might not get into any of the eight schools I applied to. (Should have applied to more mid-ranked schools!) I'm worried that I spent a lot of my savings on this damn thang. Also if I do get in, being an international applicant, I'm afraid I won't fit in with my peers and worsen my mental health. Excitement: I'm applying for other research jobs as a back-up, and excited to carry out some more research on ground..
  9. hi, applied to 8 programs.. how to get past this nervous season? also i really hate my job and can quit if i know this already, lol
  10. Dear folks, I was planning to submit my half-baked, methodologically unsound Master's thesis for my writing sample. I have research experience after my Masters. But the manuscripts are all co-authored and not final and refined, but better theoretically and methodologically. Which one should I submit? Please help!
  11. I'm applying to phd programs in sociology. Some schools ask you if you'd like them to transfer your application to other departments that they find relevant to your application. Do I check this option? Seems like a good fallback option, but also might demonstrate lack of clarity.
  12. Now, this might sound a bit crazy but i took the TOEFL and sent the scores only for two Unis that did not waive it. I'm applying to 8 phd sociology programs but on a really tight budget, and so i thought this would save me some money! I had decided to submit alternative proofs (english as medium of instruction in my undergrad) to the other schools i'm applying to. I just got my toefl which is 117 (ibt). Since this is a good score, now I'm reconsidering this choice if it will actually boost my application. Kindly suggest if toefl actually matters! Sending this score out might be good for me now as my gre writing score is pretty low (4) but my verbal is decent (164) - is it so?
