Welcome to the 2016-17 cycle!

Yeah, from what little I understand, it basically boils down to the idiosyncrasies of individual departments... things like, how many can they take in a given subfield, how many did they take last year, what profs are available, what faculty in other subfields think about your application (and how much sway that carries with others on the adcomm), how much your POIs are willing to advocate for you... basically lots of negotiating and compromise, in addition to your application's ability to covey academic quality and "your stats." Kinda random, yes, but also a really tough task, so I get it. -

Did you see a result or some kind of other info that would make you think interviews were already being sent out? Because I don't see anything in the results page, and I don't recall anyone mentioning this... -

Agreed. Good to have reliable information out there, combating troll-ism -

Received that email, too. They said they are hoping to have applicants notified by the week of February 20... One less program to feel mysterious about... -
Wow, dedication. I like several things, but in podcast form, I am most interested in smart reflection on popular culture, sports, and politics. I also like accessible things about science and medicine/health. I also enjoy people that are doing something really unique and clever, I'm pretty open if it's clearly someone's passion.

I know it's not over yet, but it's been a busy week already... who are people expecting to hear from next week? Any school that would not be a surprise? -

Does anyone else read periodicals or other publications on the regular? I must say I've been reading the New Yorker more recently, and I just love their editorial team, especially their music reviews. Or another question (that's somewhat related to reading/distractions), anyone have a good podcast to recommend? I've really enjoyed Council on Foreign Relations podcast called "The World Next Week," really great stuff.

Sounds like a great time to get away for vacation! Don't check any of this stuff, it will all be here when you get back -

Maybe I'm being a little over the top, but if I see any results that seem out of place or are not confirmed in some way in the forum, I'm going to assume they are trolls. The results page is making me bitter. -

Yeah, I've gotten stuff from UChicago's Harris Public Policy (which is at least somewhat interesting) and some online IR Master's programs... It's toying with my blood pressure! -

My favorite MIT troll line, in response to a rejection: "uncalled for"... lol! I think I would say the same -

What a good idea! I should get all my email boxes cleaned out. That'll keep me occupied for a bit -
