  1. Somebody just posted hearing back from FSU, if you see this can you message me your POI please?
  2. Are you only considering pursuing a master's at American or are you open to other programs at other institutions?
  3. Can't remember if it was on here or somewhere else but I've heard that it's a good idea to just let calls from unknown numbers go to voicemail. If a POI is calling, they will most likely leave you a voicemail if you don't answer. Then you know who called and can call back when you're ready to chat!
  4. I have not heard back from FSU, UNCG, UH, and Purdue.
  5. Literally me. My exact thoughts. You are not alone!
  6. Some professors apparently wait until the very last minute to submit letters for students. It's likely that they have not forgotten and are planning to submit the letter tomorrow, but sending a reminder email should not be rude or out of line. Hopefully they respond soon to give you peace of mind!
  7. Is this your first time taking the GRE? The "practice" scores that you received on the practice tests are not bad at all for what master's programs are looking for, honestly. I was accepted into eight master's programs my last application cycle with similar scores. I also had the same GPA as you applying to master's programs. I think you have a decent chance at receiving an acceptance into a psychology master's program. That being said, I saw that you said you eventually want to study Social Psychology. I just graduated from a master's program that had a Social Psychology emphasis. It was a great program for people eventually wanting to pursue a PhD in Social Psych. Message me if you're interested in knowing where I went (Don't want to post publicly, as it can obviously be potentially identifiable information about me).
  8. If the person that had an informal phone interview for Pittsburgh with AF sees this, can you message me please? Thank you!
  9. I'm not a grad student, but this is such a cute, thoughtful idea!! I'm surprised people are saying don't do this. I don't think it would hurt to do an act of kindness for the grad student that hosted you. I would do something small though, like somebody suggested above maybe a Starbucks gift card or something.
  10. I would wait a little longer. It is still very early, and so emailing him or the department office may seem a bit pushy (especially on Christmas Eve). I would wait until the end of January, and then if you still have not heard anything, email the psychology department office just to check where things are at in the process!
  11. A bit surprised by these last few comments.. ? There could be so many factors behind why somebody's undergraduate GPA is not that great; I think that if you are able to obtain excellent GRE scores, you definitely have a chance at being admitted into a PhD program. In addition, as somebody said above, pursuing a master's degree could also help you.
  12. Honestly even if you spend a gap year volunteering in a research lab or something, I still see it as an opportunity to work towards the big picture? You need to accumulate research experience anyway, and I think my master's program really helped me do that! I wouldn't be so against doing a master's, and think about it if you end up having to do another gap year.
  13. You apply to work in a certain professor's lab, which is why you have to make sure the professor that you are interested in working with is taking new students for the application season that you are applying to start (and that the professor's research interests match yours). Then, from what I've seen, the professor could either choose to have a brief "unofficial" phone or Skype interview with you prior to inviting you to campus to interview, or you could also be invited to an on-campus interview without doing an unofficial preliminary interview. From my understanding, sometimes professors do preliminary interviews to weed people out that may not be the best research fit. So, whether you are competing against somebody else depends on if any others applied to work with that same professor, and whether that professor is considering other applicants other than yourself. So it's possible that you wouldn't be competing against anybody else, but you should still be making an effort to impress the whole department during any in-person interviews you get invited to, not just your POI. I hope this makes sense, and somebody please correct me if I'm wrong! From my understanding, this technically sums up the process, and you are likely to hear back from a professor that is interested in chatting with you anywhere between December and February.
  14. I would definitely wait it out, it is still very early. I feel you though; I am constantly fighting the urge to email the departments that I applied to. ?
  15. The email I was referring to came from FSU! ? By the way, have you heard anything from FSU?
  16. Same ?. I'm extremely confused and disheartened. I have a ton of research experience, a 3.9 undergraduate GPA, a master's degree, even a publication.. My mentors/professors assured me I was a competitive applicant for doctoral programs. Now I'm not so sure. ? Unfortunately, I think there's just so many factors that determine who gets chosen and who doesn't. It's so hard to predict what will make you stand out for each POI.
  17. That just happened to me too with another program! I was so annoyed!!!
  18. Also applied and have not gotten an email. But I find it so weird that I've literally seen nothing about UC Davis on the results page today; do y'all think their interview invites are possibly delayed!? I just find it too weird nobody has posted receiving an invite from them. Well, I hope they're delayed, because I would really love to receive an invite from them. ?
  19. I'm on the same boat, I've heard nothing from almost all of the programs that I've applied to. My thread is also not as active as I would like it to be ?. I would also love to see your YouTube/blog, if you don't mind sharing with us!
  20. Is this Carnegie Mellon University? If so, I applied, but have not heard anything yet!
  21. I am so sorry. ? It is still really early in the process though, so I would not conclude that you were already rejected from all programs if I were you. If anything, you could have been added to some waitlists. However, IF you were to get rejected from all programs, I know a graduate student (now a professor) that told me he finally got accepted into a PhD program his second round, and his POI told him that it stood out to the admissions committee that he was taking the time to apply a second time! I guess that perseverance that shows from applying to a program that rejected you the first time you applied can actually help you stand out the second time around! Hopefully this helps to know, in case you do need to go for it again next year. ?
  22. It seems like all I see on the results page are Clinical and Counseling Psychology.. anybody else also noticed this and getting frustrated? I'm hoping this means there's fewer applicants applying to Social Psychology programs, or that Social programs extend most of their interview invites later rather than sooner!
  23. POI from which school? Could not help to glance at the schools that you applied to, and you applied to two schools that I applied to as well and have not heard back from. ?
  24. Do you know if FSU has already sent out all of their interview invites? I applied to their Social program.
  25. Is this an in-person interview invite?
