I heard back around 4:30 EST. The portal still said submitted but there was a separate link to click and see the decision page. It looks like another person did as well so I guess they aren't all coming out at once this year
-
I also just see submitted on the application portal but there are now two acceptances. Any updates or claimants? Also one of the Boulder acceptances is dated for the 31st.... EDIT: it seems like that student is an international student so that actually makes sense.
-
Update: this ended up being only a partially true assumption. Rejected from the PhD, but accepted to MAPSS with funding!
-
@Comparativist also still waiting, but sharing @jazzmintea 's assumed rejection view
-
To the Hopkins admits, what were the initials of your POIs if you don't mind my asking (I mean names work too but that always feels iffier somehow)? Have essentially abandoned hope on it (I get that it's only a few so far but it's just easier for me to assume the worst) but am curious as to whether it's already basically game over for my POIs given that contact this year seems so individualised

I mostly agree with the troll-until-claimed idea, but this seems like a lot of Yale posts for a troll, no? I see 11....

Anddd the official rejection is in (but passed along to Human Rights Studies for review at least). Thinking it's time to send in some last-ditch UK Masters applications....

I'm sorry to hear It sounds like we're in the same boat with outcomes so far. I'm like 99% certain it won't be good news, but hoping for the second choice! Did you apply to a second choice programme and, if so, did they say what was going on with that?
-
I e-mailed admissions before seeing this and got the following response: "The program has not yet recorded a decision on your application. We expect that the faculty committee on admissions will return all Ph.D. decisions by late February or early March. You will be notified via email when a decision has been reached. If you are not offered admission to your first choice program and your file is being forwarded to your second choice, that information will be clearly stated in your decision letter." (I had asked about that) So it looks like the second choice thing isn't the answer either, and it's also to do with no decision at all formally recorded, not just not sending out the letter. Honestly, I know this means a rejection but would really appreciate some closure!

Also still waiting and can't stand it! I would definitely ask for a deadline extension from the other uni. I've heard from a few professors that have worked at Oxford (I go to the other half of Oxbridge and a lot of my supervisors went to or have taught at Oxford) that they tend to release results at the very end of Feb/ beginning of March, at least for politics (I'm waiting on one of the other pol masters). I.e. the 6-8 week window leans more towards the week 8 side.

I am in exactly the same boat! All rejection so far (besides an MPhil with a very hard offer) and only expecting rejections for the rest (although we should both bear in mind it isn't over yet!). It's probably not a sign that nobody is interested though so much as that nobody is able to supervise in it? Like you can find something incredibly intriguing but just not have someone who specialises in that area. In hind sight, I actually really regret my research proposal for this reason. While I find it intriguing, it is definitely not traditional in any sense. If I could do it over I would have sent in a more "standard" proposal and contacted POIs during the process, and saved the more obscure topic until later on, but too late now.
-
Ah well, suppose I'm just waiting for a more formal rejection at this point (my portal still says "no decision"). Thanks for the info Edit: Sent a quick e-mail to the admissions dept to confirm whether that is indeed the case or whether they trickle out as it minimally impacts whether I send in one last MPhil proposal

Has anybody heard from Rutgers? I remember seeing something on here a few days ago, but haven't seen anything on the results page

Referee didn't submit reference??? What do I do???
as2472 replied to as2472's topic in Political Science Forum
Thank you for the reassurance! I think in the states "Regards" is totally acceptable, but the UK has an intricate hierarchy of e-mail sign offs (e.g. best or best wishes is friendly but professional, kind regards is neutral leaning towards friendly, regards is either very formal or annoyed). It was one of the hardest things to learn when I moved here as I always used to use "kind regards"!- 7 replies

Referee didn't submit reference??? What do I do???
as2472 replied to as2472's topic in Political Science Forum
She did for others (albeit late for two, but not this late), so I think that is what happened. I e-mailed her as diplomatically as I could muster (I even suppressed the urge to sign off with "regards" instead of "best," i.e. the pinnacle of British passive aggressiveness) and sent the thing, so I suppose that's all I can do now? If she does submit it tomorrow--and I will show up at her office if she doesn't by the end of the day here, midday in the US, so I can almost guarantee she will--is there a shot it will still be read?- 7 replies

Also just started a thread about this, but thought it could be helpful to get a faculty perspective on this particular issue. After multiple e-mails, calls, and a verbal confirmation that she had sent in my reference, I just saw on the application portal that one of my referees actually did not send it in. I've e-mailed both her and the school to ask if it is still possible for it to be considered, but is there really any hope of that happening at this point? It is my top choice and even though she has a reputation for being down to the wire, I never expected her to put me in this situation. Honestly just so hurt and worried right now. Is there anything I should be doing besides e-mailing and calling on Monday? Will this ruin any shot I had? Thank you in advance!

That's what I'm thinking. Actually I was so shocked at how much earlier than usual it was (before processing the whole probably not real bit) that I just jumped out of my chair and spilled the coffee I was holding everywhere. Not that this admissions cycle has me on edge or anything....
-
Anybody claiming that Yale admit, or more trolls?
-
And now they are disappearing. Why must trolls do this to our poor, anxiously waiting souls? What have we done to deserve this?
-
Agreed re: not likely to be 5+ people posting results without also checking this forum, but also just saw another go up....
-
Congrats on all of your acceptances! When did you hear back from Rutgers? I'm still waiting and haven't seen any updates on the results page (so haven't given up hope yet!)

Love this question to pass the time! I'm always curious what subfields people are interested in, as political science encompasses so many different things. Like Gik but in the opposite order, my subfields are PT and IR, with a research proposal on gender rights for non-binary/non-Western genders. Generally, I'm interested in contemporary political theory, esp. rights, gender politics, and distributive and environmental justice.
