Moving to NYC to attend Fordham University's Clinical Psychology PhD program!! I am very excited!!

School: Fordham University Concentration: Clinical Psychology (neuropsychology specialization) Type: PhD Date of acceptance: 3/21/2019 Notified by: POI emailed me, 20 minutes later DCT emailed me, a few hours later received the notification that the official offer letter was available in the application portal. Very excited as this was the second time I interviewed at Fordham. I am accepting the offer!

I agree with what some others said about... if you did not interview, it is safe to say you no longer are being considered for admission. BUT, if you did interview, definitely do NOT assume rejection yet! I interviewed at the Univ of Florida for the clinical psych PhD program as well, I applied to/interviewed with neuro/CAN faculty and I have not heard from anyone yet since the interview. I am guessing that correspondence will be an individual email from the DCT and/or direct correspondence via phone or email from the POI. The person that posted the admissions offer was NOT offered admission by either of the POIs I applied to (I spoke with that person via PM) so I am assuming that POI is just much quicker than all the other POIs. Plus, INS was the week after interviews and this week is UF's spring break so maybe those two things play a role in why other faculty have (seemingly) yet to send out admissions offers AND why they haven't been responding to you emails. Hopefully more people that interviewed at UF will start hearing/posting soon! It is definitely my top choice so I am hoping for good news!

So you didn't get a rejection or a notification of being on the waitlist? It had my name in it so I don't think it was a mass email.

I also applied to the clinical psych PhD at Washington State University and I received an email on January 31st from the psych department saying, "Hello thank you for your application to the Clinical Psychology doctoral program at WSU. We are in the process of extending invitations to our initial round of applicants who are getting an interview invitation for our March 1st interview day. Although you are not among that list, you are still under consideration for a position (i.e., depending on how the initial process goes). We will be in touch with you mid-late March with more information, or earlier if we have more information available or if an interview spot becomes available." I am pretty much assuming rejection at this point. I just cannot see the interviews tomorrow going so poorly that they would interview myself or anyone else on the WL.

Has anyone heard from the Clinical Psychology PhD program at the University of Florida post-interview? Has anyone received an admissions offer from Fordham University?

I am also WL for the clinical psych program at Fordham University as well but for a neuropsych mentor. I haven't seen anything either and I looked back at the results pages for last year and only saw one acceptance post. Seems odd that more people aren't posting for this program. Dr. Cruise did say in the email telling us our WL status that the GSAS would be sending out formal notifications in 7-10 business days (today is day 8 I think and I have not gotten anything from GSAS telling me that my formal status right now is WL). I wonder if anyone who did get an informal admissions offer is waiting to post about it until they receive the formal notification from GSAS. I don't know but I'm hoping we both hear something soon!!

I went to Kent State for my undergrad degree and continued to work in a lab after graduation for a little while. They are an AWESOME school and a FANTASTIC Clinical Psych PhD program!! Every faculty member at Kent is awesome! Congratulations!!!!

Has anyone heard from the Clinical Psych PhD program at Marquette University since the interviews?

I am a Clinical Psychology PhD applicant and the current round is not my first round. I have sought feedback on how to improve my application from programs I have and have not interviewed at. My former master's program adviser and the majority of psychologists I currently work with (some said they advise against it) said they don't see a problem with it and said it is something they doubt would hurt me. I was told to be sure to type a well thought out, clear and concise email, nothing wordy, whiny, or desperate sounding. They said it wouldn't hurt to try and if someone does not want to respond they can simply not respond. Depending on the program, I have either emailed POIs directly or DCTs and I received great feedback from many of them, a few just sent me back generic stuff about the competitiveness of Clinical Psych PhD programs and how great applicants are passed up because of it etc. etc., and there were only a couple that just completely ignored me. Overall, the feedback I got definitely helped me and this year I was invited to interview at three programs, one of which I have previously interviewed at so obviously they were not turned off by my request for info on how to improve my application. I do know that there are a lot of people that would advise against seeking feedback on how you can improve your application in the future but as I said, for me it was helpful. You could be told it was nothing personal and that your application is great but that due to a change in funding, your POI is no longer taking a student or the rejection is related to some other factor that is not something within your control... that happens more than people think. It certainly does vary by program. I had two interviews last week and both said that all interviewees would know their status within 2-3 weeks.

Does anyone know anything if all interview invites have been extended for the Clinical Psychology PhD program at Washington State University (in Pullman, WA)? I have only seen one post on the results page and two posts in the clinical psych interview invite forum. I know their interview day is March 1st. If anyone knows if their interview offers are finished being extended or not, please let me know! Thank you!

I know you posted it a few days ago but I got a mass email today at 5:30pm from the director of the Clinical Psych PhD program inviting me to interview on one of two days - January 25th or February 1st.

School: Fordham University Type: Clinical Psychology PhD Date Of Invite: 01/14/19 Type of Invite: Mass email from DCT Interview date: 1/25/19 OR 2/1/19

If by LSU you mean Louisiana State University (sorry, I don't know if there could be another LSU so just clarifying!!) then their interview invites were sent individually by POI's and I am fairly confident that they are finished inviting people to their interview day.

Those three domains may have different ways of doing things so if you haven't seen posts from people that applied to the exact same program you applied to, I would keep waiting. I wrote a longer post about this a few pages ago and I am speaking for CLINICAL psych PhD's here, but many programs will send some sort of rejection via email or mail at some point after they have interviewed applicants, extended offers, and finalized their incoming class. So, that could mean rejections are likely to not be sent until after the decision date imposed by the APA or some other accrediting body for your particular type of program. An applicant who did not interview may also, eventually, just get an email that says to check your status in the application system, this will usually mean rejection. I applied to a program before and heard absolutely nothing from them, I was not invited to interview, and then out of the blue in June, I received a rejection in the mail. Now, applicants that do interview tend to get their status within a few weeks of the interview (alternate, rejected etc.). It is fairly typical for invitations to go out through late January and early February as some programs will not interview until March or maybe even later (I have no idea what sort of timeline a Cognitive Psychology PhD program uses). Regardless, don't lose faith yet, there is still quite a bit of time for invites to go out! Many schools resumed classes this week so POIs may just be getting to an initial review or perhaps even reviewing and finalizing the list of who they want to invite to interview. Again, I don't know the timeline for a Cognitive Psych PhD program but I would say if you don't hear ANYTHING by the middle of February, it could mean you are no longer being considered. Another good reference point is, if you know the interview date for a specific program and you don't hear anything from them 2 weeks before that date, you are likely no longer being considered. Notifying people that they are no longer being considered is just not a priority for doctoral programs in many different fields, not just psychology, and it sucks that it is like this! This is my third round. Round 1: 7 interviews, 1st alternate at 3 programs. Round 2: NOTHING. However, I basically reused all of my application materials with slight tweaks to update what I had been doing over that year. This was a big mistake I think. Round 3 (current cycle): 2 in-person interview invites so far. In reality, I have applied 4 times but the true first cycle, I was admitted to a master's program so I am not counting this here. I only counted the amount of times I applied ONLY for Clinical Psychology PhD programs. It is NOT uncommon for people to apply multiple times so if you don't get into a program this time, don't lose hope! From Round 2 to Round 3 I retook the GRE, I completely redid my personal statements and CV etc. Edit: This is my experience with CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY PhD programs. This thread has a lot of non-clinical applicants so I wanted to clarify.

@paraent I completely agree with @davidfreire20. I wouldn't pay too much attention to that. A program wouldn't be accredited if it wasn't good. Rankings matter much more at the undergraduate level than at the doctoral level. Ivy League and top ranked schools sound great but when you are applying for internship, post docs, and eventually a career, they don't look at the rankings or the prestige of the name of the school very much, they are looking at your experiences, expertise, etc. as compared to others. Student outcome, such as internship match rate, is very important in determining if the program will set you up for success or not. In short, rank or prestige of a program is unlikely to matter when it comes to your future career. That is my opinion at least!

A clinical psych interviewee offered admission at any point usually has through April 15th to accept or reject the offer, this date is set by APA and CUDCP. An applicant who did not interview may also eventually just get an email that says "check your status in the application system," this will usually mean rejection. I applied to a program before and heard absolutely nothing from them, I was not invited to interview, and then out of the blue in June, I received a rejection in the mail. Keep in mind, many programs do not send any type of rejection until after their on campus interview day(s). This is because people could decline the interview invitation and the school may need to dip back into the applicant pool to send additional invites - especially if they didn't craft an alternate list while reviewing applicants and creating an interview invitation list. Applicants that do interview tend to get their status within a few weeks of the interview (alternate, rejected etc.). It is fairly typical for clinical psych PhD program interview invitations to go out through late January/early February as some programs will not interview until March (i.e., Washington State University's interview date is March 1 this year) so don't lose faith yet, there is still quite a bit of time! In the past, the latest I have received an invitation to interview is the first full week of February and I have a few friends currently in programs that have said the same. I would say if you don't hear anything by February 8th this year, that means you are no longer being considered for the program. If it is a program that interviews late in March then they may send invites out mid to late February but I don't think it is common for clinical psych PhD programs to hold interviews beyond the 1st or 2nd weekend of March. I know this is a really long post but I hope it was helpful for you @AlexandraF. ?

@psycash additionally, keep in mind that some programs may completely finish sending invitations to interview well in advance of the deadline listed on the CUDCP calendar. This can be gauged by looking at the results page or by messaging people who have mentioned they have been invited by a particular school because they may have some insight into if the school is done sending invites or not. For example, I have been invited to interview to one of the schools listed as having their notification deadline on January 14th and I am fairly confident they are finished sending invitations.

I will say that if their invitation deadline is the 14th that you definitely have a chance because that is next Monday - you have all of this week and then Monday too! I would say you could still receive an invitation invite at any point through the remainder of next week. It is a possibility that they could invite people by that date but then people could decline the interview invitation, so then the program takes a day or two to contact people on their alternate list. If they don't have an alternate list, then they may need a few days to dip back into the applicant pool and send additional invites to other applicants. So I think the invitation deadlines on the calendar are flexible for that reason. Plus, those deadlines are program-imposed, they are not given to the programs by APA or CUDCP so that may be the date they hope to be finished sending out invitations but it may be the day after or a few days after the listed date due to unforeseen circumstances. I do think that the dates for the interview days are accurate but I think these interview notification deadlines are slightly flexible. In a previous application cycle, (I have been through multiple because my interests changed and because this process is SO competitive) I was invited to interview 12 days before the interview date. I really don't think my flight would have been much cheaper if I would have had more notice. I fly A LOT and sometimes booking airfare way in advance is cheaper but often, especially at this time of year when people are less likely to be travelling, last minute is cheaper because the airline wants to fill the plane up. I would try not to get yourself too anxious about the possibility of receiving an invitation with only two weeks notice, it is probably not super common for programs to do that but it certainly CAN happen.

I think that is how the majority of applicants are. Try your best to keep yourself distracted with things you enjoy doing (easier said than done, unfortunately). I noticed that over the holidays when I was with my nieces and nephews I rarely had the urge to check my email or to check GradCafe! My fiance and I are also in the process of planning a trip for April and our honeymoon for January 2020 so that helps to distract me too. My problem is when I am at work all day I have unlimited time to refresh my email and GC because I generally have nothing else that I really want to be doing while at work! ??
