  1. I think the weight given to one section vs. another section from the GRE depends on the type of concentration within clinical psych, the structure of the program, and/or the type of research the faculty member does. Considering most clinical psych PhD programs are very research oriented, some more than others, the quant score will be important. From what I understand from people in the field (I work in a department of psychiatry at a school of medicine) It won't be as important in PsyD programs. Some clinical psych PhD programs have curriculum that are very quant heavy so naturally they will give more weight to the quant GRE score. For example, I applied last year and when I did not get into a program I asked for feedback on how to improve my application and a few programs told me that my verbal GRE was great (90+ percentile) but my quant GRE score (54th percentile) needed to be improved because they are quant heavy programs and they have found that the quant GRE score is a predictor of success in their program. I have also found that individual faculty members may have minimums/preferred scores that differ from the program minimums. I should also mention, the rest of my application is very strong (first author publications, several second author publications, masters degree with an empirical thesis, high undergrad GPA, currently working in the field etc.) but for the types of programs I have applied to, they do place weight on that quant GRE score so much that it really seems as if it prevented me from having success last year. Needless to say, I retook the GRE prior to this application cycle.
  2. You're very welcome! This is not my first application cycle so I have learned quite a bit on this journey!
  3. I was invited for an initial phone interview with Louisiana State University this week. Very excited!
  4. School: Louisiana State University Type: PhD Date of invite: December 14, 2018 Type of invite: Personalized email from PI for initial phone interview Interview date(s): Initial phone interview next week, on-campus interview day 2/1/2018
  5. ANY research experience is worthwhile and valuable. The more experience the better.
  6. I think you're fine then. I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck!
  7. To everyone worrying about why they aren't hearing anything yet... Please keep in mind it is very common for programs to start reviewing applications after the semester is over but before Christmas. Sometimes they don't until after New Years though. Many faculty members are extremely busy at the end of the semester and like to wrap up final exams and final grades for the classes they teach before focusing on reviewing applications. This is how it was at the very large R1 school where I earned my bachelors degree and at the school where I earned my clinical psych masters degree. I also currently work in the School of Medicine at a large R1 university and I know the university's psychology department is the same way as I know a number of students in the PhD program. At all three places, a week or so after applications are due the grad admissions office reviews and forwards them to the psych department and then most department faculty don't really begin review until after finals. A lot of schools have finals next week so I would say the most popular weeks to expect being contacted if you are being invited to interview will be December 17-21 and January 7-11. This is not my first application cycle (unfortunately) and those weeks correspond to what I have personally experienced in the past. Of course there will be some before those dates and some after BUT the majority will likely fall in those two weeks. I hope this helps with the anxiety a bit - especially for those of you applying for the first time. Good luck, everyone!! ?
  8. I was confused on this as well so prior to the due date I contacted the admissions office and I was told that everything should be done through Interfolio - personal statements, you should have provided your letter writers contact info in Interfolio and then they received an email with instructions on uploading their letters to Interfolio, unofficial transcripts, unofficial GRE scores. You should have filled out the whole thing, basically. Also, once those things were submitted then you had to "Assign" them to the categories in Interfolio. For example, once my letter writers submitted their letters, I then had to go into the document requirements portion of Interfolio and it would show all the uploaded documents and I had to manually select a category for each one - I had to identify which requirement it was meeting - LOR, personal stmt etc. If you didn't manually assign them to the categories it probably isn't a huge deal because the school should have them but it may be showing that they don't because they weren't assigned properly. Therefore, the automated system doesn't realize the requirement is met. Does that make sense? However, it seems to me that if you didn't fill out the whole thing properly that you wouldn't have been able to click "submit." Does your portal look like this image of mine? Does it show the full application was submitted?
  9. Congratulations! I have interviewed with the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa for their Clinical Psych PhD with a Psych-Law. In my case, during the initial phone interview I was asked to further elaborate on my research interests (when doing this it is important to show your ability to form original thought and come up with your own ideas, i.e., I am interested in continuing research related to X because there are a number of questions I still have. For example does X blah blah blah? And, is what we know about X in population Y generalizable to population Z?" or something like this, you get the idea... just demonstrate that you are able to form your own hypotheses relevant to the research the PI does - this will help show that you truly have an interest in the research being done by the lab and want to contribute in a meaningful way.) I was also asked questions about where I see myself in the future (academia, practice etc.), I was provided with more in depth information about the types of projects the PI/the lab are doing/tend to do, and given the opportunity to ask questions. We also talked very briefly about what type of mentorship style I am hoping for and what I like to do for fun. The phone interview was only about 15-20 minutes long and it was with a student that was on internship at the time and wouldn't be there on interview day. She was very sweet and helpful and she even told me that one of the main things the PI likes the student to focus on while conducting the initial phone interview is ensuring the applicant truly understands the research going on in the lab. Alabama is a fantastic program with excellent students and faculty, and the program provides great opportunities so congratulations on your interview invite and I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions or want to hear more about my experience interviewing there. Congratulations again!
  10. Did you ask specific POIs for feedback? Program coordinators? Did you just say something like "I am hoping to find out how I can improve my application in the future" or something like that? Thanks! And congratulations!!
  11. Right? I am just not sure if these rejections mean all invites have already gone out or what. I work with a post doc that went to this program for her PhD and she talked to a former lab mate two weeks ago and he said he wasn't sure about invites being sent or not but said no one had asked him or anyone else in the lab about hosting students so I assumed at that point that nothing had gone out for my POI at least. But that was two weeks ago, a lot can happen in two weeks! I did email the program today though so I will let you know if they respond.
  12. I think this is a tough question to answer. Every program is different and it really just depends on how the admissions process for a particular program works. Sometimes the program may have an alternate, unranked pool that they dip back into if needed after interviews or even after initial admissions offers. If you interview somewhere and you are waitlisted after the interview then it depends... If a program doesn't work on a mentor model then it may be WL for the program as a whole but if the POI's review applications, chose who they want to interview etc., then you may be one of their alternates for admission depending on what happens with the initial person or people they make admissions offers to.
  13. I saw on the results page that a few people received rejections from Washington State Univ (Pullman) and it seems that they were notified via a mass email but no one has posted about interviews. I did not get a rejection email. I'm unsure what to think right now. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
  14. Has anyone heard from Washington State University (Pullman)?
  15. I was a "high alternate for admission" at the University of Florida and I received this email today. "At this time, no further spots have become available for the 2018 Visitation Weekend. As you know, the application process for admission to the Clinical Psychology doctoral programs is quite competitive, and we are not able to invite all applicants to interview. We will continue to keep your application in an unranked alternate pool. Pending decisions after Visitation Weekend, the Admissions Committee will reconvene in late March to reconsider all those candidates in the alternate pool. We recognize that you must continue your journey for higher education opportunities while you await our admissions process. Please be assured that we understand your situation and that we will proceed as quickly as possible to reach final decisions. Thank you again for your application and for your interest in UF’s doctoral program in Clinical Psychology. We appreciate the thoughtfulness and hard work you put into your application and acknowledge your strong interest in the University of Florida."
  16. In case anyone was wondering, the University of Kansas clinical program has concluded their interviews, I spoke with the DCT today.
  17. Oh you're right. I just realized the post asked about PsyD. Oops. Thanks for correcting me!
  18. I'm not 100% sure on this but I think PAU had their interviews January 19-20.
  19. Does anyone know anything about the interviews for the University of Montana? Has anyone been invited to interview there? ANY information anyone has would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
  20. I would love to know this info too, please.
