Good luck to all of us! Have you heard anything from them recently? At least whether they're going to make decisions by the April 15 deadline?

I've just declined three offers, hopefully freeing some spots for those on the waiting list. Sorry it took me so long, but it wasn't easy.
I wish you all the best in your graduate studies, may you all have so much fun with your research

Same here. I am also waiting to hear from UCI and waitlist from UWashington along with PhD decision from Umich. Let's hope they clear the picture atleast this week.

I am still waiting for decision from UMich. The last time I sent them an email, they sent me a generic email telling me that I am on a waitlist and I should expect the decision by 15 April (if not sooner).

CMU has just closed their waitlist. I have decided to go to UChicago and decline Purdue and UIUC. Best of luck to everyone! It was a stressful period of time, and now I can focus on more constructive activities.

I emailed stat-grad-coordinator@umich.edu. I told them that I had to reply to other school that accepted me very soon.

Assuming that Duke admitted for their goal class size of 12, and that 15% of domestic students roughly made the short list for the past three years then there were 35 domestic shortlisted students and 27 of them were offered admission based on their official statistics.  That is approximately 77%.  However range is probably something more like (60-90%).  I am not super confident in that estimate but I taking that as it’s definitely worth the wait.
Edit:  I guess I can come up with something a little bit better.   I’ll think about it.

It depends.  My estimates for Duke are about 77% of receiving an offer for domestic students assuming they only sent out offers for a full cohort and they typically only admit/waitlist the short list.  It’s worth waiting it out until you know all your decisions and get it down to UMich and somewhere else you have been admitted to.  Unless you are already admitted with funding somewhere else you like more it’s perfectly fine to wait it out. I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up admitting double their class which seems to be typical.  As long as they only sent out as many offers in the first round as they have spots you should be in good shape.  The only reason I think you should decline a waitlist is that you know you would rather go somewhere else.

my guess is it's just the first thing people see in the drop down menu. whatever it is supposed to mean, i would bet it doesn't usually mean that in the results thread.

From my understanding A.M is more applied (?) but I'm not sure, can someone else verify?

I have an inside source saying that the admission committee met last week so probably it is likely that the decisions will be out this week.

US News puts stats and biostats in the same ranking so you have to either click the university's name or hover over the link to see whether it's stats or biostats. In this case, UW ranks 3rd in biostats and 7th in stats.

Haha sorry, I just can't understand your research. Do you collect data and pass it off to someone else to analyze? Do you expect all your data to be fit with a nice, normal regression? How do you communicate with mathematical biologists/sociologists and computer scientists when you need fancier techniques (like machine learning, perhaps) without having a rudimentary knowledge of those things?

Look, I don't know what you're trying to prove, or why you're trying to make me look and feel inadequate but it's not working.
If you really must know, I study ancient DNA.  That means I go into a lab and I create a bunch of chemical mixtures (usually comprised of some sort of mix EDTA and Proteinase K) that digest the ancient tissue (be it bone or what have you).  I then take the DNA and put into a DNA library with primers and end repair adapters and a bunch of other things to amplify the fragmented and damaged DNA.  And like magic, after a few hours, I get a read out, via a BioRad PCR machine that creates a regression curve.  Anything between 90% and 110% is perfect efficiency for the PCR, anything less, there is likely some sort of inhibitor in the mix.  If it doesn't work, I go back and try again.  If it does work, I visualize the PCR products on an gel and then take them to be sequenced.  My finished and sequenced DNA I then input into any number of computer programs, including programs I have written myself in Python to help me analyze my data for what I need done.
I never said my math scores were good.  So I actually don't communicate with "real" scientists, they are so far advanced my brain can't comprehend what they say.  I usually end up having an epileptic seizure and wake up with my research all done for me and a sudden publication-worthy paper all typed up for me.  Of course, I don't have any idea what it says because my rudimentary knowledge is so far beneath all of the other people's understanding of things.  Especially those in math and engineering, they are really too smart for me.
