  1. Hi! Yes, I got an email that I was waitlisted a few weeks ago, when I log onto my portal it still says "Complete and Ready for Review". Unfortunate
  2. Hi! I'm an undergad here in the CSD Program and would love to tell you about it and answer any questions! It's a WONDERFUL program and I have millions of reasons why. PM me if you have questions
  3. Wonderful! I'm down to two schools that I'm deciding between. Grand Valley State University and Wichita State. I am extremely attracted to Wichita because of their on-campus clinical opportunities and faculty. I don't know much about the surrounding area though. What are externship placements like?
  4. @slpfall14 @twinguy7 @kendralynnt @jamielee23 @angela4 Thank you all so much! You've been so helpful. I think the only reason I was worried was because my undergrad has an on-campus clinic that I am currently completing my senior practicum in and so that's the only reality I know for the "real-life SLP world". Your posts have all been very encouraging and I think I also see not having an on-campus clinic as a pro more so than a con. It will be so beneficial to be pushed out of the nest to see if you can fly! I appreciate all the support and encouragement and reassurance!
  5. That sound exactly like the school I will be attending! It's right in the heart of Medical Mile, the largest strip of healthcare facilities in Michigan, which they take full advantage of. And it sounds the same in the sense that we have a supervisor from the program and another one that works as our supervisor in the community. I'm starting to think of it as more of a pro than a con since we can get a lot more "real life" experiences out in the community which is what we are going to be doing after school anyways. Thank for the information it really helped!
  6. I hope your Q&A session went well yesterday! Anything interesting you learned about the pros and cons of not having an on-campus clinic? Thanks again!
  7. I'm looking to take Aural Rehab through ENMU this summer. I've never done this before so I am completely lost. Did you have to apply to ENMU in order to take just the one course? How did you sign up/register? Any information helps, thank you!
  8. My top choice school does not have an on-campus clinic and I was wondering if anyone could give me insight on any pros or cons and what to expect with all off-campus clinical work? I have been completing my senior clinical work at our on-campus clinic at my undergraduate institution so that's all I'm really used to. Thanks all and congrats on all the acceptances!
  9. @lee09 I'm wishing you all the good luck in the world! Keep the hope!
  10. Ugh I've been checking everyday too lol. Yeah, ABA is Applied Behavioral Therapy. It's working with kids on the autism spectrum, it's really similar to speech therapy! I worked with ABA therapists last year and loved it. I believe you only need a Bachelors in a related field (Communicative Sciences and Disorders works!) They will just need to give you a little bit of specific training. If I wasn't going to grad school, that's definitely what I would do because I loved it! Let me know if you have any other questions Yeah my mom always told me whenever I stressed "we both know this is what you're meant to do with your life so no matte what it will happen." And if you have a waitlist, you'e already almost there! There are many many people that end up getting off waitlists, I had a friend last year that was sure she wasn't going to grad school and got accepted like 3 days before classes started, so don't give up hope!
  11. @lee09 I'm sorry guys! That makes me so nervous. How many schools did you apply to? I applied to almost all schools I had a pretty good feeling about getting into and a few schools I really liked but knew I had only a slim chance with. The schools I really liked I was unfortunately waitlisted or rejected at, but luckily I do have 4 choices right now. I'll probably decline 2 of them this week because I think I know my too 2. I really love Appalachian state though and I just want to hear SOMETHING. Did you guys get an email? Or just check your portal? And there's lots of people in my program that haven't heard any good news yet, so don't be too discouraged. We had an SLP come in to talk to in at a NSSHLA event yesterday and she got rejected from 4 schools and waitlisted at 1 and got off the waitlist in June, now she's a happily practicing SLP!! So don't be discouraged. If anything, Maybe try getting a job working as an ABA therapist (I believe all you need is your bachelors and then just some extra training) or at a child care center or something! Don't give up hope, if you want to be an SLP, you will be!
  12. UGH still waiting on Appalachian State! I'm not sure what this means but I am so anxious since others have heard already!
  13. Hey all! Just got accepted to Wichita State and it is one of my to choices! That being said, I haven't been able to visit and don't know much about the school or the area other than what's on their website. Anyone have any information? Anything helps!
  14. Hey everyone! So I was just accepted to Wichita State for grad school and am choosing between WSU and Grand Valley State University in Michigan. I have never been to Kansas and am from Michigan originally so I am not familiar with the South or West at all but am planning on visiting before I make my final decision. Can anyone give any information of the school or the area? Thanks in advance!
  15. @lee09 I know it's FINALLY Monday and I'm hoping to hear from App state this week! They are the last I need to hear from. Right now my top 2 choices are Grand Valley State University and Wichita State University but if I get accepted to Appalachian State they will also be a top choice! good luck to you too! Is App state the last you need to hear from?
  16. Hey! I'm still waiting on App State too. I see most people that have heard have been waitlisted and I think I only saw one acceptance. I'm hoping we all hear soon I'm so anxious!
  17. I love this idea! So far I've been accepted to Grand Valley State University, Abilene Christian University (Dallas campus) and Fort Hayes State University. Grand Valley State University Pros: 1) it's my only in-state school so it's close to family and I would be able to live rent-free with my aunt. 2) They don't have an on-campus clinic so you are out in the community starting your fist semester (which I think is pretty cool and gives you great real-life, in-the-field experience). 3) It's an accelerated program so I would be graduating in December 2018. 4) It's right downtown Grand Rapids, MI, right in the heat of the Medical Mile so it's got tons of externship opportunities. 5) I interviewed there and the faculty seems great and really dedicated to their students. The cohort also seems to be very close-knit so that's a plus. Cons: 1) It's a new program and still a candidate for accreditation. 2) It doesn't have an on-campus clinic (yes I see this as a pro and a con) 3) It is an entire masters program condensed into a shorter time period which might be added stress! Abilene Christian University (Dallas campus) Pros: 1) It's a very close-knit program and I LOVED the faculty. I had such a warm and welcoming feeling when I visited last summer. 2) It's in Dallas rather than Abilene which makes for many more externship opportunities. 3) They allow you to do your last externship anywhere in the country you want, you don't have to stay in Dallas. I think this is a really cool oppurtunity and something that really attracted me to the program. 4) It's in Texas and I love the south lol. Cons: 1) This is the first year they will have the Dallas program and it is still waiting for the "okay" from ASHA 2) Since it's their first year there really isn't any way to talk to anyone about the program (since no one has gone through it yet lol) 3) Not sure about placement opportunities since the program is so new. Fort Hayes State University I can't REALLY say any pros and cons for this program because I don't know much about it and have never visited, if anyone has any information that would be wonderful! Congrats, everyone on the recent acceptances!
  18. I didn't get an email or anything, happened to check my portal randomly and found "applications denied" so definitely check! Still no email though
  19. I wanna know too! It looks like all of the results are waitlists and no acceptances, so maybe it's good news if we haven't heard anything yet?! I keep constantly refreshing my email! UGH
  20. I see people posting about being wait-listed at App State but I haven't heard anything yet. Ugh!
