PHILOSOPHY M.A. ACCEPTANCE/REJECTION 2018
soproperlybasic replied to buffystrong's topic in Philosophy
I was also told that I'm relatively high on their waitlist for an assistantship as well, so if you're not going there, please decline ASAP!- 222 replies

Just rejected at the Oxford B Phil! On a roll here!
-
I've been waitlisted there and intend to turn Fordham down if they give me an offer...unless funding doesn't work out at NIU!
-
Wonder if Oxford is done sending stuff out for the B.Phil At this point, I'd rather just get rejections from my remaining schools so I can move on with my life
-
Do you think the rest of us can expect our rejections tomorrow? It seems like Princeton generally sends out their rejections the day of or after acceptances.
-
Just got mine! Not too many schools away from a PhD shutout here.
-
Why even space it out? I'm desperate and want to know about all of these by tomorrow

At this point, I really just want a miracle to happen and to hear back from UNC and Rutgers with good news!!! Also what is taking Chapel Hill so long this year???

Deciding between Tufts and other MA programs
soproperlybasic replied to downwardabsolute's topic in Philosophy
I didn't apply to Tufts, because it wasn't a good fit for me personally, but I would assume that NIU is probably better if you get funding. A further degree in philosophy isn't worth debt when you have a funded offer on the table! NIU has excellent placement as well, and it's likely where I'll be going if some miracle doesn't happen at the end of this season that results in me somehow getting into a top program. -
Yeah, I'm actually quite happy that my own university showed some faith in my ability to do a PhD, since I've had nothing but rejections on that front thus far. Especially given that I'm not exactly the greatest fit for them, as I lean towards working on analytic stuff.

Just waitlisted at my own school: Fordham.
-
The last few rejections I've received, I haven't even bothered reporting, maybe people are adopting the same attitude? It's been a rough season.
-
I'm thinking about calling Rutgers to ask whether all their acceptances and waitlists have gone out...maybe Monday? It's killing me, I need to know now...
-
Oh joy, that sounds like a fun Friday... Well, better to get a straight rejection than an implicit one.

@buffystrong Have you heard anything about funding? They said they'd be ranking assistantships soon.- 222 replies

Also admitted to NIU in the first wave and sent in my minority waiver/graduate assistantship form! It's looking more and more like that's where I go if I get funding...with all these implicit rejections hanging in the air.

After seeing that some Rutgers notifications are out and I have yet to hear anything, I'm pouring myself some wine and sitting back for the night...
-
Congrats! Details?
-
I go to Fordham, and I'm surprised they haven't released anything yet this year...
-
Fingers crossed for Rutgers. I know I shouldn't be this attached given the odds, but I've spent so much time in their department for the last year or so that it already feels like home...and they've consistently released decisions on March 3rd for the last 3 years acc. to that Phil. blog with the dates.
-
Also agree. I thought knowing that I wasn't shut out would help...but now I've moved on from that worry to the next one: actually having a choice instead of having it made for me, especially because I have yet to get into a PhD...
-
I'm wondering if the Yale posting from today is relevant...I'm dying to hear back from them.
-
Even with an acceptance, it's still depressing to get rejections. I hope to actually get the opportunity to make a choice instead of having it made for me...
-
Just got an email--rejected from U Michigan! 3 down, 13 to go!

How much (total) did you pay for applications?
soproperlybasic replied to jeanxxlqz's topic in Philosophy
I paid roughly $2k total to apply to 16 schools+take the GRE twice+have my scores sent out to the places that needed them (which was almost everywhere) The unexpected cost for me was really the GRE. I didn't really study much either time I took it and I wish I had, but there was just no time, and I figured if I had to choose between that and improving my writing sample, I'd pick working on the sample. Hopefully, you will only have to take it once in the best case scenario.- 13 replies
