Thank you, that's what I was thinking too. I suppose I will get a feel soon about whether a department covers my areas of interests or not, but I was just worried about my interests sometimes not fitting as well as they could in some departments.

Oh yes, absolutely. I guess I'm a little open though, as long as there is some Camus for me I'll be happy lol. I just noticed some schools lean more literary and European than others.

We're at 8 pages wow. Classics is at 3 and Spanish is just at 2 (German, Italian and Slavic nowhere to be seen). Do you guys think changing one's interests a little to fit a school would be bad? I'm into colonial/Mediterranean studies and to a lesser degree 20th century, but I'd be willing to focus more on one area or the other if I really like a school. For me the area and finances are almost as important as "fit," though maybe that's not a good way to approach this.

Hello everybody. Does anyone know what range is typical for, say, an apartment/studio or a room in a house (if there are even any)? I'd much prefer to live in a house rather than an apartment, but cost is a concern.

We are applicants so I think we wouldn't know. It does well in rankings from what I've seen though.

If anybody is reading now, I just got invited to interview by a school where I thought my chances were abysmal. So going back to the OP--despite stats and odds--you never truly know how they'll receive your app. The mystery makes the surprise more special, but the waiting is not pleasant, lol.

Guys I just got an interview invite for Stanford. I'm quite shocked since I thought it was a long shot (the research interests are a loose fit and my GRE isn't very impressive). This has been such a good day

Just got my first acceptance (well, kind of, recommended for admission) from UNC Chapel Hill!!!

Just got one and I was browsing Amazon. I got a gift card for filling out a survey (of which I have no recollection actually but hey) and then out of a sudden I see the email. I screamed and almost gave my mom a heart attack lol

Oh my God. It hasn't even been 15 minutes since I last posted but UNC Chapel Hill just sent me an email saying I've been recommended for admission. This is so kjhkjnkjn

Complete silence for me except from Pittsburgh (and last minute arrangements to submit my app to WashU). Rutgers sent me a reminder a few months back too but nothing since. From the schools I applied to I think UMich is sending some interview requests but haven't heard from anyone hearing back from the other ones.

New week means more possibilities of hearing back from programs, right? I'm too hyped now. If I don't hear anything I'll feel awful.

I took a gap year just to rest a little and focus on my apps. It probably doesn't look very well on my apps that I'm currently doing nothing but I think it'll help me in the sense that I will be more eager to start studying again after having had the time to relax. Well, tomorrow starts the decisive week I think. More than ever I'm coming up with a plan B, not fully ready for notifications but I need them at the same time
