  1. I felt so bad about asking many from a single professor. One of them wrote at least 5 for me. They are busy people so, yeah... I'm sure they didn't mind writing them for me, but I was ashamed to steal some time from them.
  2. One of my statements of purpose was in retrospect very convoluted. Acquiring expertise in this area will allow me to become a scholar and educator who contributes to this important conversation, in an increasingly globalized world that needs more than ever to create bridges and have frank conversations about historical relations between nations. This could use so much editing.
  3. Well, more than likely nothing this week. Next week will be interesting though, a lot of results according to the survey start rolling out then.
  4. Wait, maybe I should ask WashU about this. The only thing is I feel so bad for asking my recommenders to write more letters. They would definitely do it, but you know. I'll think about this!
  5. Thank you. I think I'm not going to finish them though, I feel rude doing so, towards the department there and my recommenders who already wrote so many letters for me. WUSTL stood out for me because they had a 6-year stipend. More than any other school I saw.
  6. I got emails from Penn State and Washington University in St. Louis, the two schools where I started the app but never finished. I asked them about fee waivers but they didn't respond so I just never bothered to finish either app. It will be awkward to tell them I'm not applying. If anybody here applied to either, though, that must mean they are starting to review apps. I was specially confused at WashU since I sent someone an email specifically about the fee waiver but they just told me to "follow the instructions on the screen." The instructions said to ask her, so I was super confused. Maybe not a good reason not to apply, but I just couldn't afford to pay application fees anymore. Those and the GRE are killers.
  7. Being totally honest--I'll share the news on social media and cry. Afterwards I'm gonna have a chat with myself in my head and wonder if this school is the right fit, if I should wait for the rest of the schools etc.
  8. I'm glad it went well! I was nervous before too but it was a nice interview.
  9. My health is being weird lately. Nothing that warrants a hospital visit, but between panic attacks, stomach ache and now eye pain(? I suppose. My eyes feel like they are opened too wide unwillingly), this wait for a notification is upsetting.
  10. Oh that's good to know. Interviews seem like extra stress, but I doubt I'll have them for the two most selective schools I applied to, so eh... How often do you guys check your email daily? I think at least 20 for me lately ughhh
  11. UPenn's committee was quick lol. Congrats! I haven't heard anything from UMich yet (or anyone other than UPitt really. They still have 2 days this week!). I didn't know they had interviews. I'm actually kind of confused about interviews--do all programs have them? I was under the impression they were far less common for humanities than for STEM programs.
  12. Oops. Guess I'm out of touch with school stuff since I finished college. I'd probably have submitted everything closer to the deadline if I were still in school.
  13. My stomach decided this week that it hates me. Could be gastritis or could just be tied to my generalized anxiety (that I should be treating with meds but silly me left them because I was afraid of becoming dependent on them).
  14. That's insane. I suppose I understand processing fees are needed, but these fees seem more like efforts to weed out students who don't have a trust fund. I forgot greedy ETS also charges to send additional scores. My total was actually 434 then.
  15. Yes it's freaking insane. I would've applied to more schools but the fees deterred me. Instead I found schools kind enough to offer me fee waivers. Still, I spend $380 on my applications (GRE included) and I'm sure I'm on the low end expenses-wide compared to other people.
  16. Is it bad I was mad at MLK Day derailing my notifications? This is insane lol. Looking at the survey though, my schools notified everybody beginning in the 20s of January, so it's unreasonable to expect anything before. I think the deadline for IU Bloomington's app was today, actually. Not sure why someone would submit their application so late, but in theory they could.
  17. Don't be nervous, the interview is very standard. They'll ask you about your interests and writing sample, and of course why you chose the program. They will also let you ask questions. The professor who interviewed me was very kind! Best of luck!
  18. I just want to say that I feel the same for the most part. I've had at least a couple panic attacks as I wait for a response. Hope you hear from your programs soon!
  19. Nice! I applied because it's a relatively large department and I heard good things about the program. It's in my top 3 for sure.
  20. Thank you! And yeah, I wish we had a way to know where we stand in comparison to other applicants. Not many people fill out the GPA and GRE section of the forum survey and schools are not putting out that info in their websites either (while i was researching only Duke, Northwestern and NYU did. Seeing as how the low number of acceptances deterred me from applying to those places I think I understand why they might not post admission stats lol). These next two weeks will feel like years waiting for a response.
  21. Did they send you anything? I am as well lmao I was reading my personal statement and noticed two grammar mistakes too. I just want them to be quick with it
  22. Thank you for this! I'm actually excited to move to a city with lots of record shops. Will definitely check out videos to keep them clean.
  23. It's a cheap Crosley from urban outfitters (couldn't afford a better one at the moment lol)
  24. Yes, freaking out here too. I applied to a humanities program and we should start getting results starting next week probably, but that won't stop me from refreshing this forum like I'm crazy. I had an interview today though, and I think it went okay, so that calmed me down a little. A part of me just wants to have everything in order already, you know?
