  1. Very informative and helpful post, guys! Thank you so much! It's really helping me get a feel for Fayetteville that a google search couldn't provide. I do have another question--mostly about housing. Are there any housing complexes to stay away from? I've been reading a few reviews online, so I'm starting to get a little concerned about all the 1 star reviews I've been seeing for complexes that are within my budget and close proximity to campus. I've seen someone mention apartments/houses owned and rented out by individuals--is that recommended above complexes? Also, are there any websites that make searching for individual-owned spaces a little more streamlined/is there a different way to go about searching for that? (Craigslist I'm assuming?) My many thanks! x
  2. Hi, everyone! I was recently accepted into UArk's English MA program and after having Fayetteville in mind for several months, am considering accepting the offer. My only concern is whether or not I'll be able to afford life as a TA out there. I've done a little bit of research and it appears that Fayetteville is on the lower ends for cost of living (compared to where we are now) and while I'm fortunate that my fiance would be moving with me to supplement our income, we have significant student loan debt we'll need to keep chipping away at. Does anyone around Fayetteville happen to know how the job market is around there for a computer programmer and whether Arkansas still pays competitively despite the low cost of living? (For reference, he'll have over a year and a half of job experience and half a year of internship experience once we'd be moving out there.) Also, if you can't speak to the first half of this prompt, what is Fayetteville like as a whole? I heard it's an artsy city--is this true? Any other quirks I should be aware of? Thanks in advance! x
  3. A friend of mine graduated from undergrad a few years back with her B.S. in Audio Engineering. Unfortunately, once she graduated, she realized she didn't want to work in her major field, and is considering going back to school. As an avid reader and someone who enjoys grammar and syntax, she's considering pursuing an MA in English, but unfortunately doesn't have the means to pay out of pocket for tuition. Are there any fully-funded MA English programs that accept students that don't already hold a BA in English?
  4. I've been looking to apply to some MA programs in English, but due to undergraduate student loans, I need to find fully-funded programs (that provide a stipend). I've found a few--VCU, Villanova, Utah--but not enough of a pool for me to feel comfortable. Does anyone have any suggestions for good, fully-funded MA programs? I'm mostly considering English Lit, but have also been trying to find if there are any fully-funded programs that also offer specializations in Publishing/Editing (either on their own or in addition to English). Thanks in advance, everyone! x
  5. Waiting for updates on waitlists provides me just enough hope that I'm slowly going mad
  6. In the same boat here. I was waitlisted for my top choice and although it feels nice knowing I almost made it, I know I can't get my hopes up because there's also a good chance I won't make it in after all of this. (Also waiting on three more schools for their decisions doesn't help ease the stress.)
  7. Has anyone heard from U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, U of Virginia, or U of Arkansas? I'm assuming they'd have to get back to applicants soon....right?
  8. Hopefully good news will come soon! (or at least any news at this point.) Best of luck to you as well!
  9. Is anyone else in that awkward limbo where you've seen acceptances sent out on the results page, but you've yet to receive any rejections?
  10. I'm also assuming it's a rejection for me as well. But, maybe there's some hope that Michigan is doing waves of acceptances
  11. I feel like you're better off. I'm starting to see that there's little hope for me getting accepted anywhere, especially coming right from undergrad, so I wish I wouldn't have spent so much on application fees and waited until I had more "life experience" and more writing under my belt before applying to a bunch of places. But everything works out the way it's supposed to, so I suppose there's that. (Maybe I was never meant to have much money.) I hope your two applications send you good news!
  12. Is it me, or is has it been really quiet for MFA applicants? I know it's still early, but the suspense is killing me.
  13. Actually, I was hoping to work with Adrian Matejka! (Though Ross is a ray of sunshine.) Has anyone received any MFA rejections from Indiana Bloomington? It seems like most/if not all of the poetry acceptances were sent out last week, and I just think it's strange that no rejections have been sent yet (at least not that I know of).
  14. Received my first rejection from Washington University in St. Louis about a week ago. I applied to Indiana Bloomington and saw a bunch of poetry acceptances on the results page, so I'm assuming another rejection will be headed my way soon. Based on previous years' results, it seems like most programs don't start sending stuff back until around mid-February, so I suspect this upcoming week is when we'll start to see more activity.
