  1. This is a very good point, @bpilgrim89, and not something I had thought to consider.
  2. Should I put any kind of importance on the type/name of the degree (e.g. PhD in English vs PhD in Rhet/Comp)? I feel like at some point in time I was told that when it comes to the job market, it can be easier to get hired if you have a degree in rhet/comp, or in English rather than an interdisciplinary degree. Is there any truth in that at all? Obviously there are about a hundred other factors that go into getting a job, and the things you do in a program is more important than what a piece of paper says, but I am still curious.
  3. That's very exciting, @Pezpoet! I'd be interested to hear your thoughts about the visit; if I get off the waitlist, Pitt is a real possibility, so any info I can get would be welcome. I know it's way out in March, but if you think about it, that would be cool!
  4. Thank you!! I keep thinking I have a direction I'm leaning, but then something tips me the other way. Right now, I really need funding info from Madison and I need to know if I get this fellowship at OSU; I think that's going to end up playing a very big role in my decision.
  5. Aaaand that's a waitlist for University of Pittsburgh! I'm accepting Stanford as a rejection (tbh, I knew when I applied it was a bad fit), so that means all the results are in! (Well, except for funding offers...) Now, just to decide...
  6. CONGRATS @Warelin, @Crow T. Robot, @chouette, and @colin_cloute!!!! What a cool Friday!
  7. This is the same reason I'm declining my invitations -- even though it would obviously be helpful to visit before making a decision, I am not interested in dealing with international travel for just a couple days. I think it is totally reasonable to decline the invitation, especially if it would only be for a single day; in fact, I don't think anyone in the department is expecting that you would be able to attend. If they haven't yet, you could contact some current grad students to try and get a feel for the department/university/city. I would just be sure to tell them you appreciate the invitation, but that unfortunately it isn't feasible for you to visit.
  8. Way to go @OceansAreBlue, @Warelin, and @LeeLeeCzechIrish!!!
  9. I'm right there with you. I don't have any confirmed funding info yet, but at one school I've been nominated for a pretty decent fellowship and I know that if I get it, it's going to be really hard to say no. I'm feeling really torn about my choices right now (and I don't even have all my responses yet), but I feel kind of weird knowing that funding will probably be the deciding factor. (I know it's a legitimate reason to accept/decline, but it feels...idk, weird.) Same! I've had really good contact with several people at the school I might end up rejecting. It seems so strange that they seem to genuinely want me there?? I know it won't hurt their feelings or anything, but it feels so nice to be wanted (womp womp) that I am feeling hesitant to decline. I was totally shut out 2 years ago and I applied this year with zero expectations; being able to choose is incredible, but also so stressful!
  10. Congratulations @Mellowyellow and @littlelotte!!!!
  11. I am losing my mind waiting for my last two schools. It could be any minute now, and I just can't take it.
  12. Last night and today all of the sidebar ads in my browser have been for Stanford. So...maybe?
  13. Congrats to all those who received good news today/yesterday!!
  14. CONGRATS @Crow T. Robot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I see a couple of entries on the results page for UPitt's Critical and Cultural Studies program -- rejections sent by postal mail! I don't live in the U.S., so now I'm expecting an extra week of waiting for my own rejection to arrive. Or will they even bother with the international postage??? Augh
