@Jules4663 congratulations! That’s pretty exciting! I’m sure it isn’t a mistake ☺️ I guess a number of emails just went out, too, because I was just rejected....I’m a bit bummed, as it was a top choice, but I’ve got some other great admits so in the grand scheme of things it’s all good @winterlover that sounds potentially like an admission! Maybe the emails just aren’t out yet? Might be worth an email to the department.

I was always under the impression Pitt was mostly on the film studies rather than production side of things. Could be wrong, though. But yikes. There's a lotta anger happening over here... -
I was watching the curling last night! I know less than zero about how it works but I still had a great time hearing the players yell at each other, lol. Love hearing all those different languages!

@Naito Thanks for the anime reference! I'll check out 夏目, looks like fun. I'm always looking for ways to practice my languages...I'm not too much of a gamer, but anime and 大河ドラマ are great. I'm currently finishing up デスノート as my post-applications treat, and I'm a huge 甲鉄城のカバネリ fan too (my own profile photo!).

@kotatsumuri Congratulations!!! How exciting! @Naito I think the odds are in your favor to hear back before April. From what I’ve gathered, most places come back in March at the latest. I’m planning to go abroad in April, too, so hopefully things are settled by then. It would be too bad to experience the sakura blossoms in a state of anxiety! ^.^ Also, did you change your profile photo?

Oh brilliant! I was told that the official visit weekend will be somewhere in late Feb/early March, so I’ll DM you! Hoping you get to stay at Chicago/in the states, though! I have several international friends (not Chinese but Asia and Turkey) who are in similar situations. It can be nervewracking!

@NaitoBaron my current project is on repetitive tropes in Japanese horror cinema. I’m more broadly interested in how political/cultural ideas are expressed in cinema and pop media. Somewhere down the road I want to do anime and the transnational nature of pop media coming out of Asia...there’s a lot there! Hello @ystlum_chwilfrydig! Welcome to the party. I, too, have applied for several EALC PhDs. Good to see you here!
