  1. Has anyone heard from Emory lately about a waitlisting? I did not receive an invitation to their prospective student weekend, but I haven't gotten a rejection either. I'm unsure if this means I'm on some wait list system, and how long that list might be.
  2. Hey Pastel, I'm a current SOC student at NCSU. I applied to some other programs after my advisor left, but after a rejection from UT I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking around to finish out the PHD. You are welcome to PM me i f you have any questions about the program, recent placements, or obtaining an advisor. NCSU is a solid program but if you're looking for an R1 job right after degree you're right to wonder if it might prove challenging / might be best to consider other options. There are certainly grads from this program who have accomplished R1 placement with the right project and the right advisor though. I do sometimes think that as academics we get caught up in institutional prestige (I'm not suggesting that that's what you're doing!) but in my experiences elsewhere, I think sometimes we collectively get lost in concern over school rank and what not. IMO fulfilling work can also be found outside those prestigous R1s. Just wanted to share some thoughts! Best wishes!
  3. Hey y'all good luck this year I'm hoping to transfer with a masters after my advisor switched schools. I'm currently in the phd program at NC State, but hoping to find a place that's a better match for my research interests. I'm interested in gender, qualitative research, and social psychology. The schools I'm applying to are 1) UT Austin 2) Emory University 3) University of Oregon 4) Vanderbilt University UT Austin is a bit of a reach as I have pretty average GRE scores, but I'm hoping that they like the my masters sample enough to consider me. I've only taken the GRE once back in 2014, and really regretting I didn't bit the bullet and take it again! Good luck all!
