  1. I'll say! That's wonderful! And a bit of a curve ball, since it doesn't look like that's usually how they notify based on the results board. Congrats again!
  2. @M(allthevowels)H Congratulations!! Did you get an email?
  3. Good lord, I nearly choked on my drink and ran to the other end of the house to have my phone on me. Then, of course, I realize it's not even Friday and I have to go to work tomorrow. *slams head on table*
  4. Thank you! Really hoping we both hear something from Rice this week!
  5. Lol! That's quite alright. *tips cowboy hat*
  6. Just got word that I will be awarded a fellowship from TAMU! I think it's a pretty swell offer. I'm trying not to get super sentimental, but Texas is my home state and I'm feeling drawn to the idea of going home...
  7. Same, for sure. Although, I do particularly like sick and grim Donne as well--that's the Donne that got most of the attention in my MA thesis, anyway. Well, you're in good company! Feel free to PM me if you wanna chat more about schools or area of interest. I haven't heard from any other EM folks, but I know they must be out there!
  8. Not here to answer the question, since I think @mads47 has already done so, but I did want to say hello to a fellow early modernist! I posted a while back to see how many others were hanging out here, but didn't hear back. Anyway, best of luck to you. Great profile pic.
  9. Huge congrats to all the Austin acceptances!
  10. This is pure gold. You are a true hero.
  11. I was definitely shocked to hear from one of my schools yesterday. I wasn't expecting to hear from TAMU until February.
  12. It was several years ago, and a bit of a whirlwind, but I was definitely impressed by the warmth and congeniality of the department. Going into MA programs, I was already specializing in early modern lit, so most of the profs and students I met with were in that area, if I recall correctly. But overall, it was a really good experience. The only reason I didn't end up going there was because I got an offer with higher funding at another school. I'm originally from Texas, and will second @CulturalCriminal's assessment of the area. College Station is a very conservative area--much more so than most university towns. Austin and College Station are basically different worlds. That said, I would bet that you would spend most of your time with people in the department/university, other than when teaching, so it wouldn't necessarily be that bad.
  13. Congratulations on the acceptance! I was accepted there as well. Are you planning on attending the recruitment event in March? If you don't mind my asking, what is your area of study? I'm early modern. I was just contemplating over the email question as well. I think I will go ahead and send a basic thank you and that I look forward to hearing more. I don't know what to say about the recruitment weekend, though. I'd love to go, but I've visited once before (I almost went there for my master's) and am afraid I won't be able to go to visit events at other schools if I were invited.
  14. @Mise Congratulations! I'm waiting on several schools too. It looks like it might be fairly reasonable for me to fly, so I'm thinking I'd like to try and swing it. However, I am really limited in vacation time with my work, so if I go to that one I might not get to go to others if I were to be invited. If you don't mind me asking, what is your area of study? (Feel free to PM, if you'd like)
  15. There's another TAMU acceptance up--congrats to that person! Idk if said person is watching this threat, but I'd love to chat and see if you're planning on going to the visit in March!
  16. Thanks to all! @Warelin @FreakyFoucault @M(allthevowels)H @Mellowyellow @la_mod and any others I've missed. So many congrats to everyone who've gotten good news today as well. I'm so relieved to have one acceptance under my belt, plus it's a pretty sweet offer--even better if I were to manage and land that fellowship. Plus, my family is in Texas; it'd be nice to be closer to them! @canadianchart--Congratulations! I definitely wouldn't worry about the prestige. If the program is a good fit for you and your interests, then it's a good program!
  17. Accepted to Texas A&M and nominated for a university fellowship.
  18. Heyyyyy! Me too. Congratulations!
  19. Thanks everyone! I know it's not a straight acceptance, but it's just a relief to hear something. Oh, trust me, I'll be sweating til March/April when I hear something more!
  20. It was, and thank you! I apparently typed some nonsense letters at the end in my hurry to post before my next work meeting. Hoping you hear something soon. And you too, @Wooshkuh!
  21. Thank you! Yes, it just came in with the subject "PhD application status."
  22. Wait-listed at OSU! Finally, a response!
  23. Whew. I guess I somehow stopped thinking about Rice while I was busy despairing over the OSU silence. Hearing back from Rice would be incredible--especially since their due date was so late.
  24. Congratulations! You may have posted something like this elsewhere, but it would be wonderful to know what you did differently. I don't know if I would reapply if I get shut out this year, but I am at least trying to consider the possibility.
  25. Dang. No need to apologize. I'm now wishing I had looked into the program there. You sold me. (BTW, I'm from Texas).
