  1. Oh, @bumbleblu! That's wonderful news! <3
  2. Okay, I'm sorry I went doom and gloom so quickly, @Narrative Nancy, @Elle Coronaria, and @bumbleblu. Having scoured past posts more in depth, it does seem that OSU staggers the acceptance posts on the website--although the result board in the most recent years doesn't seem to indicate that. I'm still hanging on to some hope, seeing as 3/4 of the posted acceptances specify rhet/comp and I know @FreakyFoucault and I are in different periods. Hoping that @unræd's input is the golden ticket for those of us still waiting!
  3. @a_sort_of_fractious_angel Yess!! Congratulations! And, really, what's with the limits on reactions anyway?
  4. Bless you, kind soul. Seriously. Here's hoping that you're right!
  5. Yeah, I was definitely just thinking "Where the hell can I get some chocolate STAT??"
  6. Another acceptance to OSU is up. Congrats to whoever posted it! I'm thinking that those of us who haven't seen updates on the web portal are either waitlisted or rejected.
  7. @bumbleblu I hope not, but it makes me worry. I think they may send waitlist notifications a bit later than acceptances. :/
  8. Correction: Looks like they posted acceptances.
  9. Another hearty congrats to @FreakyFoucault for the OSU acceptance. Any news from others, @Narrative Nancy, @Elle Coronaria, @bumbleblu? My status still says pending and I might actually throw up.
  10. @FreakyFoucault CONGRATS!!! I'm so happy to hear this! My status still says pending. Fingers still crossed, but hope is dwindling...
  11. @BlessMeWithSnow Hands down, one of my very favorite poems.
  12. Yeah, I have to agree with you there--but I'm a masochist and that's kind of what I love about him.
  13. @BlessMeWithSnow Thanks for commenting! It's certainly relevant! I don't have much knowledge of your topic, but I hope to learn more. I haven't seen many early modernists either, and am super curious as to many are actually here. Best of luck to you as well!
  14. @punctilious Ahhh such a wonderful choice.
  15. @punctilious That's awesome! What poem did he read? I first encountered John Donne in an undergraduate course on early modern literature and religion, and that's when my love for the period clicked. It helped, of course, that my professor was hands down one of the best professors I've ever worked with.
  16. Inspired by a similar post for folks in comparative lit, I wonder how many early modern/renaissance applicants are currently waiting on responses. I'd love to know where everyone applied and what your focus is. I haven't heard from anyone yet--but got an implied rejection from Emory when interviews went out. My background is primarily in seventeenth century poetry and prose, especially John Donne. As a PhD student, I'm hoping to specialize in early modern medicine and medical rhetoric. Looking forward to hearing from others! Best of luck to everyone!
  17. Exactly! I would kill to just have enough time to read the things relevant to my research. With all of life's obligations, I can barely finish reading an article, let alone write something of my own. I know I'll find myself overwhelmed in grad school, but at least it will be more stimulating (future me will hate me for saying this, I know).
  18. Thank you for reminding me to be grateful for this. I have a full-time job that I'm not super satisfied with, but if grad school falls through I at least have that. That desperation is exactly what motivated me to apply. That, and the rigorous routine of office life drives me a bit bonkers. I shouldn't be bored at my job--it's interesting, I like my coworkers, etc.--but I am...I spend a lot of time making other people's work better (I'm an editor), but I long to be producing my own work.
  19. I'm to the point where I'm pretty sure my email is broken. That's the only reason I haven't heard anything, right? RIGHT???? Ughhhhhh
  20. @kinoko, that's amazing! Congratulations! Does Emory's Comp. Lit program not do interviews? @Cotton Joe, I just did.
  21. That's great news, @HopefulRhetorician! Congratulations!
  22. @HopefulRhetorician It's very possible! Today was the day for many last year. Most people who heard back from this day last year saw an update on the web portal without an email notification. Another wave of folks posted on Jan. 24/25. I'm on pins and needles!
  23. Late to respond, but I feel this so much. I've been out for two years now. I do not like the lifestyle offered by non-ac world. I'm annoyed by the arbitrariness of most of it. But it has helped me to gain more understanding of what I'm looking for in a career and has given me the confidence boost of knowing that I can make it outside of academia. If I don't make it in anywhere, I've considered retaking the GRE, maybe even the subject test, and trying again. If not, I'll focus on getting a new job.
  24. Same, or I would've upvoted the hell out of @WildeThing's comment!
