  1. I will also be attending PSU in the fall in the department of Sociology and Criminology!
  2. Congrats, those are all great programs! You’ve got a tough choice ahead. I put this post in the Sociology group as well, but I’ll put it here because it is relevant. Hopefully this helps! Acceptances: NC State (Sociology PhD), Kent State (Sociology PhD), Indiana (Criminal Justice PhD), Penn State (Criminology PhD), Washington State (Criminal Justice and Criminology MA) Research Interests: Mental Health and Race in the Criminal Justice System Final Choice: Penn State Reason: Penn State is the perfect department for my interests. They’re well established in both Sociology and Criminology and offer the opportunity to get a degree in either. The research being done by faculty and current students is exciting and fits well with what I want to do. The environment seemed supportive and collaborative. The faculty and current students were nice and honest about the program, and I got along with the other prospective students well. They have a history of great placements both in and out of academia and their graduates and faculty are well-respected in their fields. The only concern I had was the cost of living in State College, but the funding package they offered was good enough to offset those concerns. It really was a prefect fit.
  3. I’ve decided to enter the Criminology program at Penn State in the fall! Anyone else made their decision yet?
  4. Thought I try to bump this now that I’ve made my decision. If anyone else wants to post as well it may help others still trying to make a decision and connect with others in your cohort. 5. I’m also strongly considering PSU, but for Crim. Are the Soc and Crim visit days the same? The Crim visit is March 22-24.
  6. What time is everyone attending the NC State visit day arriving at the airport?
  7. It may be a little early, but I wanted to start a final decision thread, just in case people had made a decision. It may help those of us who are trying to make decisions, knowing what other people considered when making their decisions. I figure we can do something similar to what this thread was like last year: Acceptances Research Interests Final Choice Reason
  8. Thank you for the information! I applied to the Criminology program so this is good to know. And congrats on the master’s acceptance!
  9. For the person who posted the Minnesota rejection, did you reach out to them or did they just email you?
  10. I just received a rejection from Texas by the website. No email.
  11. I’ve been thinking the same thing, and Texas as well. It’s super annoying thinking you’re rejected but holding out that last bit of hope.
  12. Both of mine so far I’ve heard about funding right away. Also, I can claim the Kent State acceptance and UTK interview.
  13. Congrats to you too! I said Crime, Law, and Social Control. I’m interested in looking at the intersection of race and mental health status in the criminal justice system. What are your research interests?
  14. I can claim one of the acceptances for NC State. I'm applying straight out of undergrad with (hopefully) a degree in Sociology and Psychology and a minor in Leadership. My undergrad GPA is only 3.10, but I have a junior/senior GPA of 3.73. GRE was 166V/157Q/4.5AW. I come from a small liberal arts college and have moderate research experience with no publications, 1 for sure and 1 possible conference presentation. I'd be happy to answer questions if anyone has any!
  15. It looks like the acceptances last year came out over at least a week, so I wouldn’t be too worried. I applied to Penn State as well, and I’m just trying to remember that we never really know what the application process is like year to year. Especially since last year they did interviews and it doesn’t seem like they did this year, so it could be completely different this year.
  16. It’s very quiet tonight. Seems almost like the quiet before the storm of results that are going to come out soon
  17. Based on last year, it should be around the beginning of February. If you go to the results page and search sociology Wisconsin it should show you all the results from previous years, so you can get an idea of when they usually send out acceptances each year.
  18. Yeah, Minnesota is also one of my top choices. I think we should hear back today or tomorrow based on last year’s pattern because they sent them out on the Thursday and Friday of this week.
  19. Anyone else nervous that Minnesota acceptance letters should come out tomorrow or Friday?
  20. Yeah, same for me. There’s one professor who I would really like to work with, but other than that the fit isn’t the strongest.
  21. Congrats to everyone who has heard good news so far and good luck to everyone still waiting! Does anyone know if University of Chicago has sent out all their interviews?
  22. Hey, just wanted to jump in here. I’m applying to a mix of Sociology and Crimonology programs. For Criminology I’m applying to Penn State, Indiana, and Washington State.
  23. Finally got my last applications submitted. It feels like a blessing and a curse. I don't have to work on them anymore, but now I have nothing constructive I can do when I start getting anxious about hearing back. Good luck to everyone that applied!
