I personally hold Brown in a high regard, as well as Princeton (as long as you are not a Caribbeanist). I would avoid Yale at all cost, even if that was the only one that accepted me. As for Harvard, I am not too crazy about the program but you have to admit that the name carries a lot of weight and prestige. In this dynamic between Oxford vs X-Ivy, I would definitely choose Brown (always), seriously consider Princeton, Harvard and Oxford for me are pretty equal. Yale is a NO for me. Seriously, that department has a lot of problem and simply switching some professors around but keeping them is very problematic for me. That just shows that they care about name recognition not the safety of their graduate students.
Although not mentioned, I do like Cornell a lot and Columbia, though talking to some of the grad students made me nervous about it.

It really depends on the Ivy for sure. But I think that I would always choose the fully funded PhD. It also depends on your career plans and where you can achieve them.

I hope things went well at Princeton. Their campus is beautiful! As someone who lived in NJ, I am quite familiar with it. One of my best friends went there for undergrad (he was the smart one, I'm the fun one).

    Hey,
I was accepted at Temple with an amazing funding package (they nominated me for a great fellowship). Super excited.

It was super interesting. They asked me a couple of questions regarding my interests and a possible dissertation project. They provided some feedback (not too in-depth), then spent the rest of the time telling me about the merits of the program and the changes they are making for next year. They told me that they had just hired a new professor whose interests greatly aligned with my own.

Don't give up. This whole process is completely bonkers and its all about the right time and what schools are looking for at that particular moment. I am sure that there is a program out there who will see how amazing you are.

Congrats to all of those who have received acceptances thus far. As for me, I just found out that I am waitlisted at UVA, my POI assured me that I am high on the list so I am excited about that. I have an interview with Temple tomorrow through Skype which I am very confused about since they said it would only be 10-15 minutes, still excited about tho.
P.S. good luck to those taking MA exams soon.

    Hey guys,
I figure I'd start (early) a thread for this year.
    Where is everyone applying to?
I just finished all my applications and I ended up applying to 5 PhD programs.
Am I the only one feeling extremely stressed by all this?

I am in the same boat. I would ideally stay in the department I am currently at. However, I am unsure if I'd be allowed to continue, although I have been assured that I should have no issues as long as I do well on my exams in Feb. I am applying to some programs just in case.
For peninsular, you should look into UMich and Indiana U.

I am doing Hispanic Literatures MA. I am hoping to continue onto the PhD and the Gender Studies PhD minor is one of the reasons I decided on IUB.

That is an awesome list of acceptances. I know a lot of people who applied and have applied in the past to UT Austin and been rejected. They are very selective from what I hear. Also, VANDERBILT!?!? Tell me that is where you are leaning towards to!! They have an awesome program and great faculty.
    Congrats!!!

I got accepted into Temple's MA. Kind of frustrated because I wanted to be admitted directly into their PhD but at least it wasn't another rejection. No funding tho. :/

I was accepted into Indiana's MA program!!! They are offering a teaching assistantship.
Beyond excited since I was getting really nervous and did not think that I would be admitted anywhere that would offer me funding.

Just thought I'd bump this thread.
Is Bloomington livable on the $16,000 TA stipend?
    Any advice?
Time for making decisions I guess... help!

Like you said, it is super early. At least you haven't had a rejection yet and hopefully you will not receive one at all. I am confident that in a few weeks you will go crazy trying to decide on a program after the many acceptance you will get.
