  1. Been a while since I last visited this forum. Sure I can help you with these. 1) One bedroom varies anywhere from 750 - 1200, but I'd say 850 is common. 2) Idk. I never once thought about living on campus. 3) Yes, I don't have a car in my first year, and I survive by taking the bus. Buses are regular so no worries about that. However, weekend buses are reduced but I didn't find it to be a problem. I recommend getting a car tho, it really useful getting around here. 4) Say apartment is $850, other bills (phone, electricity) = $70, car insurance = $60, groceries + food = $500 - $700. 5) yep, I lived at a apartment which is super close to a Walmart.
  2. I highly recommend to proceed with the 1-20 showing funding. This would show more concrete proof of you being a student as compared to a I-20 without funding.
  3. Congrats to those who are offered admission and planning to attend your their respective grad schools this fall! I'm just curious if any of you still have got universities that haven't got back to you? U of Oklahoma and U of Western Ontario still haven't reply me; could it be due to their mismanagement that they forgot to reply? It's weird.
  4. Attending PSU for its Geosciences program! Does anyone here rock climb? I'm in need of a belay buddy when I start school at PSU this Fall!

Not going to UW for grad school, but was an undergrad there. The light rails are dependable. Buses are dependable on the weekdays, but so-so on the weekends. Depending on area, I'll choose a quieter neighbourhood as high density areas tend to be a little noisy, you get fire trucks blaring past your apartments early in the morning, or some homeless guy shouting in the middle of the night, etc, you get it. Dorms are the worst, fire trucks, random fire drills , fire-alarm-triggered-due-to-some-guy-cooking-popcorn-in-a-frying-pan are common things that will happen daily. I lived in U-District and it was alright, there was noise pollution but the convenience made up for it. If you're a heavy sleeper, ignore above. Comparing Maple Leaf vs. Downtown, i think i will go for Maple Leaf. But my personal preference would be to share an apartment in U-District, as it is super accessible to everything on campus, from the IMA (sports facility) to classes. The Burke Gilman trail, something you will hear every now and then, also runs through campus, is a beautiful jogging and cycling trail. The restaurants by the campus also open till 9pm-12am so living close by is pretty nice.
  6. Cough *show-off* cough ahem. I went for $800 at park forest apartments.
  7. Incoming grad student here in geosciences here! May I know what are you guys' stipend like? I'll start, mine is roughly 26k / year.
  8. Last I check with Executive House they said they only have a 2 BR apartment remaining.
  9. I received an acceptance from UA in early March, but I declined their offer last week.
  10. Hmm... I rejected a funded RA position from UH a while ago, hopefully it goes to you but it doesn't look like it. Did you apply to geology or geophysics MS? Also btw, their stipend is rather low for a big city...
  11. Sooo where did you guys decided to go? I'll start, Penn State University!
  12. Gotcha. I'm still waiting for their reply, tho I already accepted at another place.
  13. Has anyone heard back from University of Oklahoma?
  14. I think your graduate classes and work experience will make up for your lack of research exp. Did you do any class projects that are sort of research-oriented? Those projects are worth mentioning when writing your SoP and in your CV. How well did you articulate yourself regarding your work experience with state Geological survey? If you have written a strong and convincing SoP, I think you'll be fine. Side note: I think CU Boulder might be a stretch
