  1. Hi aaustin, sorry for the late response. With regards to PP I applied to Boise St. and Oregon St. Can't remember off the top of my head if they have faculty that has interests in corrections. If corrections is what you're interested in, Sam Houston would be a good choice.
  2. The open house is the 1st-3rd but I can't make it and after trying to set up a visit on another date we agreed on the 15th-16th and they mentioned another student would be visiting on those days as well.

    Boulder, CO

I got accepted to the CU Boulder Sociology program, hoping to visit in mid March as this is currently my top choice. I have seen that Boulder is pretty expensive.
  4. I haven't made one either, leaning heavily towards a program, but am putting off making a decision til I've heard back from the last program and see if they just blow me away. I probably didn't do a great job not implying I've made a full decision.
  5. I went with: Hi Dr. (Insert Program Director), I want to thank you for considering my application and offering me a place in the (program name). I wanted to let you know that regretfully I will not be accepting the offer of admission because I will be accepting an offer at another institution. I would like to once again thank you and the department for the opportunity to attend (insert school).
  6. I know exactly how you feel. This was the right decision for me since they didn't offer me any funding and I already have 1 funded offer. I'll be glad when this is all over.
  7. I sent my first email today declining an offer as well. Makes me nervous telling someone I'm not going there lol
  8. I feel the same way. A good friend of mine classmate and someone who's definitely as good or maybe better than me has gotten 2 rejections and still waiting to hear back from 1 program, if he gets rejected he'll be done this cycle. Meanwhile I'm 3/3 with one visit/interview coming up and 2 programs still pending. I'm really excited but I don't like talking about it with him because I don't want it to come off as douchey.
  9. SoCal is so overrated. Yeah the weather is nice but imo, it doesn't make up for the ridiculous cost of living. If you want to live in a semi decent area get ready to pay out the ears for it. USC itself is located in a suspect area. You can't get anywhere without a car because the public transportation is mind numbingly awful. Also get ready to spend 45 minutes to move 8 miles because LA traffic is as bad as advertised. Gas prices are insane. Living here is very expensive.
  10. I'm in a similar boat. For me it wasn't so much the amount of money but whether they would offer any. I applied to 7 programs and had a top 3, 2 of the 3 have accepted me with the 3rd school yet to notify me of a decision. One of the two that admitted me is pretty much out at this point since they said they could not offer me any financial support which is a massive deal breaker. Did make me feel a bit disappointed as the fit there is fantastic but can't go somewhere with no funding. On the flip side, if the 3rd school in my top 3 accepts me the funding packages may have to be the tie breaker between them and the other school that accepted me and offered funding.
  11. School wise....they're about equal I would say. Community wise, USC is in South LA so not quite.
  12. USC is interesting in that the campus is located in a not so great area but it has that prep feel to it, I live about 20 minutes away from SC and used to drive past it every day for work for about 2 or 3 years. UCI is all prep all the time. I personally didn't apply to UCI in my field (Crim) because I dislike Irvine (school and area) because of it's air of pretentiousness but I also didn't apply to any CA schools because I wanted a change of scenery. With all that said, gun to my head...UCI > USC.
  13. Visits are giving me major anxiety. One school called me first and I agreed to visit them (no official admit yet) from 3/1 to 3/3. Another school admitted and their open house is those exact same days. I emailed and asked if I could visit other days and they said yes and to give em days I'll be available. Well, I got accepted to another school and they haven't provided any info on their open house and I'm still hoping my top choice calls me in for an interview. All of these unknown dates and the thought of cramming them into a single month and trying to make it work with my job which is having it's annual event at the end of March is making me stressed.
  14. Thanks! and no, M.F. is someone else. That's kind of funny but I'm glad it worked out for you.
  15. Congrats!! I too applied to Texas State, guess I should (hopefully) be hearing from them soon as well.
  16. They told me that regarding funding it wasn't definitive but they can't offer any to me at the moment but that they would give me the bottom line after the visit in March. So, not going to hold my breath but I just want to ride it out and see what happens in the end.
  17. @TTAPinCCJ that's good advice and what I've been told as well. Kind of why it made me a little sad because ASU was one of my top choices. Luckily, I do have a funded offer at another one of my top choice schools so that's really relieved a lot of the pressure and I feel like I have some more leverage or wiggle room that way.
  18. I have admits from 2 of my top 3 but what at the moment I think is my top choice has yet to reach out. That's one of the reasons I am still holding out but once that chip falls I will start making my move. Hoping to have made my decision by mid maybe late March. If I had all the chips and was sure of where I was going to end up I would absolutely commit well before April 15th.
  19. This makes me feel better. I haven't gotten an email either. They did tell me they'll be able to tell me more about funding afterwards which is my big concern because they didn't sound overly optimistic.
  20. I just don't want to have to email a POI and tell them I'm rejecting the offer. I've spoken and developed some good relationships with some professors so I feel a little bad. Ultimately, gotta pick the best overall fit.
  21. I'm not entirely sure how to decide. I seriously figured I would at best bat 1/7 but I have two offers and one visit invite. Still waiting to hear back from my top choice program. Somewhere deep down I was hoping I wouldn't have had to make a choice lol.
  22. Any of the ASU admits...you get info on the student visit days?
  23. Don't think most people expect you to have a proposal ready but have a general sense of what your interests are. So no need to be laser precise but just saying I like sociology won't fly either. When I tell people a school isn't a great fit I usually mean no one on the faculty is in the same ballpark as me as far as their research interests. Some people, myself included, will apply to some schools even though the fit isn't great. I had to reach a little bit on one of my apps to find a decent fit.
  24. Jeez Boulder, can they take any longer? I want to know meow!! Thanks for sharing the update!
