    @crimsociol kudos to you for working hard and being proactive to making things happen. I did something similar just on a much smaller scale....my emails sent and conversations with professors at ASC did not even crack double digits haha. But my main objective was for them to see my face, know my name, and know who I am in general. I'm still in the process of seeing whether that will work out for me but congratulations.

    Commuting to Westwood is ABYSMAL. I live about 20 miles away and the few times I've had to go to UCLA have been miserable.

    I got an invite to attend a student preview event at Sam Houston and I'm in the same boat. Looking at places to live and drooling at how much cheaper Texas is than SoCal. My excitement level has skyrocketed ?. I'll probably die if I get an acceptance or invite from another school.

    That's great! Good luck with your other apps. I'm still waiting on ASU, Texas State, and UNLV as the only other true Crim programs I applied to (also applied to a couple Public Policy and a Soc program where I can still have a Crim emphasis). Currently working on the Sam Houston stuff which is kind of a pain but whatever, better paperwork than paying out of pocket!

    That's great! Not the Albany news of course but the rest of it. I was quite honestly really surprised to hear back from Sam so soon. Their deadline just closed 4 days ago but hey, I'll take it.

    Got a call from Sam Houston inviting me to their preview weekend on March 1st...I'm pretty stoked!

    I have had a few sign with just their first name but since it's email and not in person along with the fact that it's mostly been introductory stuff, I go with Dr. Whatever. I have seen some grad students talk to their advisers on a first name basis but they already have relationships with them. I also feel awkward calling people who are my superiors in any way by their first name...like when you graduate HS and your teachers tell you to call them by their first name...I still say Mr. or Mrs....same with my in-laws. That's just a personal thing though.

    It's funny how things can change so quickly. I'm a criminologist but I applied to a few sociology programs that have crim as a specialization. One of the "true" crim programs I applied to was one I had at the top of my list but a couple weeks later and I kind of regret applying there, mostly because I had already paid lol. I took part in some projects that didn't change my overall research interests per se but changed what I want to do enough to make that school not a great fit anymore. So even if I do get accepted, there's a real chance I may decline.

    I saw that on my application page as well. Clicked on it and they send you a username and password but it doesn't look like anything I need to concern myself with. Admittedly, I only spent a quick minute looking at it.

    I'm guessing they're going to be my first notification since the deadline was December 1st and every other school I applied to was January 15th or today. The wait is agonizing!!

    I'm in the same boat mostly. 4 of the 7 schools I applied to are Feb. 1st deadlines and 1 is Feb. 15. Thought it'd be great to have extra time to apply and all but boy, the wait game is killing me.

    Hello everyone, long time lurker. Finishing up my mscj this semester and applied/applying to 7 schools in a mix of crim, soc, and public policy where I can still specialize in crim. My CU Boulder application was first on Dec. 1st so I'm thinking their decision will be come any time now. The stress and anxiety is driving me insane, I changed the settings on my aquamail app to push any emails to my student email instantly but even then I keep refreshing it every 5 minutes. I also applied to ASU and even though it's only been 2 weeks I keep obsessively checking MyASU and it doesn't help the other schools are Feb 1 deadlines ??
