Just got accepted to Penn State via Email!!! I am crying, this is so incredibly validating because I wasn't even going to apply this year because I didn't think my work was ready or good enough. Also this forum rocks you all rock, everybody rocks.

    Yessss! So awesome!

MassArt seems like such a great school. Unfortunately can't afford it myself! Wish they offered more funding.

I'm in the same boat, really. I thought I might as well interview and maybe there's some great funding that I don't know about lol. Doesn't hurt to find out!

  3. Just had my MassArt video interview. It went exactly 30 minutes and was hosted by only two interviewers.

    Questions they asked:

Why do you want to go to MassArt?

Why do you want to go to graduate school? What will you gain from it?

    What does your art communicate?

    Why do you make art?

Are there any artists or authors that inspire your work?

They also asked me to choose a piece I submitted to my portfolio and talk about it with them.

Over all, it was probably the best interview experience I have had so far. They asked me some very important and deep questions about my work and it was actually really refreshing. I've been getting interviews that were kind of streamline, just asking generic questions they ask everyone. But MassArt got really deep and conceptual with me and I got to talk about some really important things in my art that I really haven't gotten the opportunity to talk about with previous interviewers.

Pretty good experience, but be ready for some tough questions about your work!

    Good luck!

I had an interview with them and they also mentioned TA/Museum stuff. I am assuming the interviewers from yesterday might've been different than today which is why? Who did you interview with, @Karisjns ?

I know Joan Giroux was there, the other names were a little too muffled for me to pick up, but one of the men speaking had an accent.

Geez I'm getting really worried about that now. I emailed them about assistantships when I was applying so they should know I was interested.

Hopefully it's just coincidence bc I would really need that.

I did apply for the Fine Arts MFA so I'm not sure what y'all applied for and if each department had different interviewers.

I honestly think I probably mentioned in my essay that I want to teach!!! I said it like 3 times before they even asked haha. I think that may have prompted them to ask. Don't worry! Not to be creepy but I looked at your website and your stuff is solid!!!

Thanks, I definitely have some growing to do in my art still, which is why I'm pursuing my MFA.

Hopefully that's the case, because I am relying on some sort of assistantship in order to afford any of the programs!

Hope we get some good news!

How was your interview?! I honestly can't tell how mine went! Seemed good but it was short.

Yeah mine was about 11 minutes and they just casually rattled off some generic questions. However they did not ask me about TA or museum positions like in your interview, so I'm a little concerned about that?

  7. Just had my Columbia College phone interview, it was a little over 10 minutes. Panel style, seemed like there were about 5 people in the call.

    Questions they asked:

Why do you want to go to graduate school at Columbia?

What artists and concepts inspire your work?

What projects or ideas are you currently working on?

That's pretty much it, it was short and sweet compared to the other interviews I've done. They said decisions should be out by              mid-march, but could be a little later.

    MassArt interview tomorrow!

    Hi,

I have been following this for a hot sec, thought I would share:

Was accepted to UW Madison last week, but just got the letter that I didn't receive any funding (does anybody know anything about etiquette re: leveraging other offers? I have a solid fully-funded offer from another school, but UW is my top choice & there is 0 chance I will accept their offer if I can't afford it). Have a Cranbrook interview on March 15th that I am very excited about, and a CCA interview tomorrow. Waiting to hear back from 4 other programs.

    TY and Good Luck!

    :')

I would suggest letting UWM know that you have received a commendable funding package from another institution, in hopes they'll barter with you about funding.

I honestly am not very confident. I have applied to

    - Ohio State

    - SVA in New York City

    - University of Kentucky

    - Louisiana State University

    -University of Missouri

    - Columbia College Chicago

    - University of Southern Florida

    - CalArts

and Columbia is interviewing me soon. That is my top pick. I met a faculty member at a conference and she reviewed my portfolio. In the email she said they are "impressed" with my portfolio. Does any of this mean anything at all? I don't want to get my hopes up. I'm so nervous for my interview. Also- I'm in my senior year of BFA. I wanted to go straight in. Do they frown on this?

An interview means you're a finalist for admission. It's a great sign, most schools interview you when they are considering accepting you. Interviews are never a bad thing.

And many schools do suggest waiting a year or more between undergrad and grad school, but plenty of students get in to programs straight out of undergrad.

Well, had my interview with Columbia this afternoon. It only lasted 10 minutes but they ask the pretty basic questions. I'm so nervous!

    Was it Columbia College Chicago?

If so, what did they ask and what department were you applying for?

  11. Just got an accepted into the Maine College of Art (MECA) MFA in Studio Arts full residency program via a very delightful phone call.

They said I should hear about funding this week.

Surprised I got accepted into this one to be honest, but I'm grateful to have some options!

Still got MassArt and Columbia College interviews this week, so we'll see how that goes.

    Hey everyone!

I am currently still working for my BFA in Photography @ Herron School of Art. I'll be graduating in May but I am honestly really eager to keep working so I am trying to not take any time off despite lots of advice not to. I really think I can do it! (I want to!)

    I've applied to

    - Columbia College Chicago

    - Ohio State University

    - SVA

    - University of Kentucky

    - University of Missouri/Mizzou

    - CalArts

    - Louisiana State University

    - University of Southern Florida

Columbia is my top pick and I have an interview with them soon. I also have a tentative interview with Mizzou. Any advice? I am kind of not very self aware and don't have a lot of confidence most of the time. I love feedback and I love help.

    My website is savannah-calhoun.com

My Columbia interview is tomorrow morning, I'll tell you how it goes.

Got an email today notifying me of admission into UW Madison's MFA program! This is my second year applying to MFA programs after getting straight rejections last year. I'm surprised they didn't ask for an interview..?

Stick with it ya'll, hard work pays off. Still waiting to hear back from the other 6 schools I applied to, but I'm incredibly grateful to have gotten into this funded program. Cheering for all of you!

Congrats, I bet it is such a relief!

This is my second year too, and I'm really hoping for some good news!

Hello. Did you hear from SVA? I applied to SVA's Design Program as well and the status says ‘Application Ready for Review’.

I have seen Fine Arts applicants recieve interviews and acceptances already. They seem pretty unresponsive right now, I emailed them about my transcript and they didn't reply for over 2 weeks. But the email they did send was very pleasant and did not imply any rejection,  so I don't know what they're doing.

I applied for DMI, but I have not received email yet. very nervous.

They said in the email that these were interviews that were decided by the MFA 2D/3D Admissions Committee.

So from the looks of my email, design programs may be emailed separately from a different committee, so don't lose hope just yet ?
