  1. This might be too little too late, but I think "ContentFaces" provided some misinformation. I applied to the York Clinical Psychology program this year (Fall 2018) and got accepted. My GRE scores were 152V, 156Q, and 4.5 written (sooo.. not very good at all!). But my GPA is 4.33 and I have tons of experience in both research and field work. I also have published work. I guess my point is, GRE scores are not everything! And I don't believe any Canadian program ever truly applies a GRE cut-off, because the more subjective parts of an application can be much more impactful than anyone realizes. Bottom line, My GRE scores were horrible but I still got rated very high on the short-lit of over 100 applicants, and was given an official offer from York.
  2. Hi there! I really need some advice. I applied to a few graduate programs in Clinical Psychology across Canada this year and received an early acceptance offer from one university (a tie for my top choice). I contacted all other programs to get an application status update prior to accepting this offer and was told from all of them that my application was unsuccessful. So I went ahead and accepted my one offer, formally. However, I was just contacted today by my POI at a different university (my other tie for top choice) saying she was sorry for the mix up but she would actually like to extent me an offer. I've heard from a few people in the past that you cannot back out of an offer once formally accepted, or at least it's highly frowned upon? But I just really want to know what my actual options are here. It is even slightly possible for me to consider accepting my offer at this other program and write to apologize and retract my acceptance to the other? I really want to handle this in an appropriate way. I really need help and need to decide in the next couple days!!! Thanks in advance!!
  3. Hi guys! I've recently recieved my first acceptance letter to a Clinical Psychology program. I am still waiting to hear from 3 other schools but unless I receive a miraculous scholarship amount or something from one of these other 3 schools, I will probably end up accepting this offer I have right now. I am wondering if there is any benefit to me if I accept this offer now versus later? Or vise versa, is there any disadvantage to me if I wait another month or so to accept? Thanks in advance for your input!
  4. It was about 5.00pm on a Friday night and I had just finished microwaving a box lasagna, pouring myself some wine, and setting up a movie. I had literally just taken my lasagna out of the microwave when I got the acceptance call from my POI for Clinical Psychology. First, I cried hysterically for a while. Then I called all of my closest family and friends. They all thought someone had died because I could hardly get words out through my tears of happiness. Then I was told by my loved ones to throw out my box lasagna and to meet them downtown for a celebratory supper and drinks in 1 hour; and that's just what I did!
  5. I got wait-listed on January 15th, 2018 for my top choice Clinical Psychology program and was accepted last Friday (Februrary 21st, 2018). For all those who are also wait-listed, there is no "normal" time to hear. To be wait-listed means that you are a POI`s second choice and that they have already sent an offer of acceptance to someone else. Basically, if that other student declines the offer (which does happen semi-frequently), then the POI will send you an offer of acceptance. Unfortunately, every student typically has until April as a deadline to respond to the offer. So if you are wait-listed, when you will hear an official answer will be completely dependent upon when the 1st-choice student responds to their offer. Sometimes an accepted student will wait all the way up until April 15th to decline or accept because they are waiting until they hear from other schools themselves. This means that there is definitely hope for those who are wait-listed up until the very end! Don't lose hope!
  6. Hello, I'd like to share a personal experience to help answer your question. I applied to a Clinical Psychology program at a Canadian university. My application was re-directed to a different advisor than the one I applied to work with due to a personal crisis with my initial POI. Basically, my application made it into the new POI's hands after she had already completed her interviews. She told me that she had already chosen a student to admit and had given this other student a verbal unofficial commitment. I'm saddened for this other student to say that after my interview with this new POI she decided she would actually like to admit be more and because nothing was officially official yet with this other student, that's just what he did. I am now a master's student under this POI's advisorship and this other student who was given unofficial acceptance is not. I know this sounds terrible but grad school is terribly competitive and you must take whatever advantage you can get. The moral of the story here is that you should definitely ask school A for an extension to make your decision. They will almost always grant this to a student they are perusing. Don't take anything unofficial with credibility. Good luck with your decision!!
