Here is a question for those of you who were successful, did your letter indicate a date by which you needed to accept the award? That would give us waitlist folks at least a timeframe before we may expect to see some movement.

Ok but BRIGHTSIDE: we don’t have to wait for snail mail. ?

I think this is a moment where you're kind to yourself and you don't work. Especially during a pandemic, I've realized that deadlines are flexible.

I saw this on twitter and thought it may be useful to share with you all:

Yeah I'm a quota applicant in Ontario and me and the other person nominated in my department haven't received any emails yet.
Edit: last name P, in case that matters.

Very confusing! It's hard to understand why they can't just have a fixed date and stick by it.

Direct applicant, Canada Post delivered my letter via regular post this morning in Maple, Ontario. 11.7/20, waitlisted! Good luck everyone.

I'm actually in the same boat. I have a paper due tomorrow and another on Sunday. I thought I'd let myself walk the news off a little, but maybe reason will prevail here. Maybe a raincheck on that! I wouldn't mind more keener friends at Western.

I'm wondering about OGS results, but at the same time feeling pretty down about the whole thing.

Hi all. I received word late yesterday afternoon that I received a SSHRC doctoral fellowship. (I wasn’t eligible for the CGS-D owing to months completed.) I am grateful. This was my third application and third time at the national competition. The first year, I simply didn’t receive the award. Last year, I made it to the wait list. Third time was the charm, in my case. The possible difference? Over the years, my project hasn’t really changed at its core, but I think the proposal is now clearer to a general audience. That, and it’s (perhaps) more obviously feasible as I indicated that I’d be actively in the data collection phase by now, which is accurate. I am sharing this in case anyone reading is where I was (and feeling what I was) last year or the year before. It is absolutely worth trying again. And it remains important to remember that the crapshoot factor is real. This and other awards are never measures of our personal worth and the worth of our research. We are all trying to make a difference with our work. Wishing you well.

I think the other grad finance/scholarship person was away this week so I’m guessing Paula had some extra work... especially with the whole OGS delay. Oh well, at least we know that we’ll know in under 24 hours! Fingers crossed!

Thank you! ? I wonder why Western in particular was delayed.

I just heard back from Paula and she says the notifications for Western will be sent by tomorrow at 4pm

Well fellow Western people. The tri-council scholarship coordinator is about to give a talk so I don’t think we’re going to be hearing today unless she sends out emails or updates the student centre right after.

Same here. I emailed Paula Cameron yesterday but also haven't heard back yet.

Apparently the portal can be difficult to access at busy times or something. My financial aid person has not been able to get on yet. That could be why some schools don't even bother, especially if they only have one person and not a big department with multiple people who can access it. I thought this might be good information to have for people waiting and even for people next year trying to figure out why their school isn't getting info from the portal.

This is purely an off my chest comment, but I really don’t understand why they can’t just pick an official day they release the results and stick to it. They say the end of April anyways so why not just say April 30 (and actually release them on April 30) and we all won’t be wondering if today’s the day starting halfway through the month. Anxiety and stress related things are known issues in grad students so I don’t really understand why they couldn’t make the whole situation a little less precarious. Then we could more easily put it out of our minds until the official day. It’s such a small thing that doesn’t seem like it would be hard to implement, and it would make such a big difference... for my anxiety at least. And then an online portal for everyone. Just pop the results in there April 30.

So I don’t see a thread for this years SSHRC competition so I thought I’d start one. I’m on the edge of my seat to find out the results but from what I’ve read we’ve still got a couple weeks to go...
This is my first time applying to SSHRC because I did a professional Masters and the process is crazy nerve wracking.
