  1. Hi guys, I'm considering applied psychology programs (specifically ones that focus on developmental psych). I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge about the PhD program at Teachers College, which I think is housed in their Human Development department. Also wondering about the program at NYU- Steinhardt. For starters, I'm not sure how the application process works. Is it the same as with social psych/cog psych, where you select a primary mentor in advance (and email them to make sure they're accepting students)? Also, are these programs competitive/do they prepare you successfully for a career either in academia or in industry? Right now, I've been conducting research in a cog dev lab, so I don't have as much familiarity with applied programs (though I have had some previous research experience in applied psych). My GPA is high enough, and I've had plenty of research experience. I'm just a little lost when it comes to figuring out the right path moving forward. Thanks!
  2. I'm in the same boat. I'm on a wait list, and the professor at my top choice school recently let me know that it's very unlikely that the department will make any additional offers this cycle. I'm pretty disappointed. It's hard to put in so much time and thought toward something and have it not work out. The feelings come in waves, but I'm trying not to get too discouraged.
  3. What school were you wait listed at if you don't mind me asking?

  5. Hi- Does anyone know how to interpret this situation? Two people (including me) were interviewed for a specific POI at a PhD Pysch program. The other person was accepted, and I was sent an email from POI saying that they are waiting to hear how many slots they will have. The other person will not be accepting the offer. I've been told it is still possible that they will have to wait to hear back from all students (across the dept.) who were given offers, and that if this person chooses not to go, it does not necessarily guarantee me the slot. I was wondering if anyone else has been in this situation or has heard of this situation. Does anyone have an idea of how likely it is that I could gain admission?
  6. Thanks. You wouldn't have an idea of how much of a shot I now have (with the other person declining), do you? The lab is a newer lab. POI only has one other student but not sure if this makes a difference. I don't know how this department makes their decisions- nobody I've spoken to seems to know.
