    Congrats to the UT Austin admits! We're a lovely department, and I do hope you consider joining. To those on the waitlist: I can't give any insight on your chances of getting admitted, as it depends on subfield/potential advisor/how many people accept their offers, which may be impacted by COVID, etc. As someone who was admitted off the waitlist, I would just note that the best thing that I did for my chances was attend the admitted students' day and introduce myself to the faculty that I was interested in working with.     Hey folks, I'm going to be starting a political science PhD in the fall, and I'm very likely going to be doing quite a bit of quant work, as methods is my secondary field. Right now, I have a Surface Pro 4 with 4GB of RAM, and that's pretty clearly just not going to cut it. Does anyone have advice for RAM/processor requirements for a laptop that I should be looking at? Or anything else that I should be looking for when choosing a new laptop? Thanks!

    Anyone have any idea of chances of getting accepted off of UT Austin's waitlist? I can't imagine there are that many people waitlisted, considering they're paying for us to join for their admitted students' day, but also I have no idea. (On an unrelated note: If you got into UT, you should reject their offer. Texas is only gonna get worse with global warming, Austin's bbq is overrated, etc.).

    Is anyone else still waiting to hear back from Northwestern? Obviously there's not a chance that I'm getting in at this point, but I still wish that they would just reject me... Tried contacting the graduate program coordinator and no response.
