Finally received my Rutgers rejections as well (through the portal). Shortest rejection I've ever received lol. Good luck to everyone still waiting on decisions!

    Also denied at Rutgers LOL.
"Your application has been reviewed, and the committee has denied admission."
If I didn't check this thread, I wouldn't have even checked my portal. I cannot believe they didn't even send an email. On the plus side, I got an application fee waiver.
Second rejection today (McGill rejected me for Sociology).

Daily check of Rutgers portal showed my rejection. I knew it was coming but they couldn't even be bothered with an email or a full sentence.
Good luck to everyone still waiting.

I saw Pullman pop up in the city guide forum recent activity and just wanted to throw in a review of the Pullman/Moscow area. I first visited to help a friend move there for the cog. neuroscience program and visited again a few months ago. I know she has had an overall really positive experience and I've had a blast every time I've been. She found a super cheap apartment off campus- there was even a student discount for academic performance and it's still close to WSU. As for the area itself, it's really nice to have the two towns so close because they've both got some gems of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and places to see concerts. If you like dive-esque bars (that don't feel skeevy) check out John's Alley in Moscow, they randomly will have big names come through and have live music regularly (we saw Afroman when I was there ha). Also, if you're looking for an occasional splurge dinner that's totally worth the money go to Sangria, it's a Peruvian restaurant on the border of Moscow close to Pullman and is ridiculously delicious. I definitely recommend getting out and exploring the Pullman/Moscow area, it has a lot to offer. My friend out there has met some great people, both in grad school and in town, and has overall really loved it.
    Good luck and have fun!

(Sorry for the long rant from just a Pullman/Moscow visitor, I really love the area and had my heart set on WSU but they didn't have funding for my program this year/didn't accept new applications because of this so I'm actually also just super jealous lol)

I'm pivoting from History to Literature and Media Studies (with emphasis on Queer Studies). There's a lot of things in the cultural studies spectrum that I was never exposed doing my studies in Brazil - and some, if not most of them, are very specific from American academy. So the main reason why I want to complete a second PhD is because I need training in an area I want to pursue and was not available (still isn't) when I was in college and grad school in Brazil).
On top of that - applying for a teaching position job with non-American credentials are really hard, no matter how good your work is. I published my Masters and PhD in book format. Have more than five peer-reviewed articles published. Have teaching experience for undergrads (and middle school in the US).
Also - when I look at History departments in the US I don't see myself in them. The kind of work I used to do in History departments in Brazil is closer to what some people do in other departments in the US, none of them History departments.
I also want to explore alternative careers outside of academia - that's why I think a Master would suffice. In the end, it's all about the network and connections we make .
I've been doing the work independently, reading, researching, trying to write, etc. But without a community to back you up and give you feedback is not only lonely, is also not that productive.
This all might sound bs, or whatever, but I really believe that it would make a difference for what I wanna do.

I got a rejection from Ohio a couple of days ago and an acceptance to TWU. Does anyone know anything about their program? Also - has anyone heard from Indiana? Sending big hugs to everyone still waiting to hear back from places ❤️

I have yet to hear from Rutgers either. I'm also waiting to hear back from Indiana, Kentucky, UCSB, University of Toronto, and York (in Toronto) for Gender/Feminist Studies.
My friend goes to Indiana and said their recruitment event is on the 4th, so that's not the best sign. UCSB had the finalist e-mail in January. I saw a post from York a couple weeks that they were accepted and it was an international student and they only accept two international students. Kentucky I've heard an international student got rejected (via the results), but that's it. I know nothing about UoT, but last year supposedly people didn't find out until MAY!?
My same friend has told me that nothing is final until you get that letter, so I will remain optimistic but rational at the same time.
Edit: Thanks for letting us know, Kayla.

I emailed Rutgers yesterday night. I emailed the graduate coordinator called Ed . He replied with the email below:
"Thanks for your interest in our program.  We had over 100 applications and could only admit 3 new students so we could not admit many highly qualified candidates.  Unfortunately, you were not one of the finalists.  You should be receiving an official letter from the Grad School in the near future.  All the best with your endeavors".

I'm also still waiting although I'm expecting a rejection at this point so it's not really factoring into my decision-making process. That secret waitlist isn't looking too likely ?

    I would say something like:

    Hello Dr. X,

I just got notice that I haven't been offered a space this year, and while I'm disappointed I understand that there are many factors that go into the decision-making process. May I ask if there is anything I can do to make my application more competitive for next year?

Just be polite and I'm sure no one will take offense.

I haven't heard anything either. I think barely anyone has, so I think Yale is still pretty fair game for all us. Trying to remain hopeful lol!

No no no no no. You should never, EVER go into anything to please others, least of all your professors. You can talk to your program where you were admitted and ask for a deferral or simply decline. IT IS OK TO DECLINE AN OFFER. Trust me. A good professor will always be proud of you, no matter what you choose, so long it's your choice. And if anyone gets offended, well, it's their problem.
