  1. Anyone have any info on living within walking distance to West Campus? I have heard conflicting reports about its "safety," though some say it's totally fine by campus. thoughts?
  2. Congrats! I have a good friend there that just started a doctoral program. She says it's great.
  3. Congrats, Fish! Also, congrats to those accepted to HDS!
  4. Marcone, What MA (Duke) are you referring? I assume the MA in the dept. of religion? If so, I also have been accepted and am facing a similar decision. If it is indeed the MA in Duke's religion department, consider that it's geared more toward research. It requires less courses, but substantial writing (ca. 70 pg. thesis).
  5. Same. I spoke with one of the faculty and I think the 50% is pretty much all we get. There is a link on the Duke Religion website about possible funds, but none of it looks really promising.
  6. Meh, we all know BC is better anyway . Either way, sorry to hear it didn't work out. At least you have some other insane good offers, eh?
  7. Did you all just receive rejections? Sorry to hear it . And WOW that is a lot of applicants.
  8. Damn! Impressive! You give the rest of us hope .
  9. Haha! Unfortunately I highly doubt ill be accepted! Plus I applied to the Early Christian Studies MA, not the MTS . cheers
  10. Just got my acceptance to Duke's AM in Religion (GDR). Finally, an acceptance! Now, if only ND would finally give me the axe .
  11. Haha, me too. We shouldn't bore the others . And no, still waiting. Congrats on NYU! You don't want to live in NYC anyway .
  12. Haha! Sounds pretty fun. I actually worked for Toyota all through undergrad as a mechanic (part-time, my dad taught me how to work on cars when I was young), so I'm abnormally familiar with the tC. Unfortunately all I can afford here in Boston is a 1990 Camry....sweet right?! And if it matters, my top three choices are ND, GTU, and Duke (AM).
  13. Congrats, as well! I bet you are sighing sweet relieve!
  14. You're correct. Good eye! And honestly I'm not too torn up about it. It was 2nd to last on my list. As long as I get into one of my top three, ill be singing praises to Adonai.
  15. I was under the impression they are, too. And perhaps they thought "why is this guy applying...?" I applied for a second M* because, quite frankly, "most" people I know in biblical studies do. For top programs it's expected to have 4-5 languages under your belt and enough coursework to justify picking a focus. Much of my MTS has been intro and intermediate language work. I came into my MTS with only 2 years of Greek and since have added Hebrew, Latin, and Aramaic to the list. For my next M* I hope to take advanced seminars in at least three of those languages (likely Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic), and perhaps add Coptic, but most certainly German, to the list. cheers.
  16. Yeah, it's all a crapshoot, eh? I can't imagine they are lacking white males wanting to study the bible, haha! Oh wellz. Bring on the other rejections!
  17. Rejected from Chicago's AM. Great SOP (IMO), amazing recs (bible folk), and a pretty good writing sample. My GRE score was pretty weak. Plus I'm applying after finishing my MTS, so no clue if that helps me or not? Either way, I doubt I would have attended due to costs. Plus I'm tired of cold weather . Hope some other folks on here got in!
  18. I don't doubt this would sell in an interview. The problem, as I understand it, is getting an interview to begin with. I have half a dozen friends with MBA's (and UG's in related fields) who can't seem to find a job. I can't imagine they would hire me over someone like this, no? Either way, ill teach HS if this all doesn't work out.
  19. My BA is the same. I don't think you can really do anything with it besides enter academia, or perhaps teach HS? good luck, mate <3
  20. Sorry, Wind . I hope you have other options?
  21. *tear*. It was a long shot. Perhaps ill email them and ask If I'm lucky enough to even make the waitlist. Either way, I appreciate your helpfulness through the process of applying!
  22. Strange and awesome? I met with him at ND late last year and had no clue.
  23. Someone posted an MA from Duke (religion). Not sure if they applied to the GDR or the Div school?
  24. Indeed. I'm better friends with the PhD students here than I am most the STM folks (I don't think any of them are Catholic). I talk to two of the STM folks regularly that I met in class, but these were BC theo bible courses, so again, my opinion of the STM is fairly biased. I do live with quite a few STM peps now, and occasionally we chat about the department, so I get most my "insider" info from them. Not surprisingly, they are all Catholic. In short, if you want to be immersed in a fully Catholic, BC bubble, there is PLENTY of room for that. If not, there are plenty (tons, in fact) of courses that are historical-critical that don't give a hoot what, if any, faith you are.
