  1. Yup, just realized someone posted an acceptance. Congrats to whoever you are!
  2. Any idea about ECS?
  3. I should have mentioned that I hardly spend any time at all at the STM, so my opinions should not really be bothered with . I think out of the two years I have been here I have taken maybe 4 or 5 classes at the STM. Most of my classes are spent in the BC theo (main campus) department. There no one gives a crap if you're Catholic, an atheist, whatever, so I enjoy most my time there. And you're right, you can very easily fulfill your requirements elsewhere. Both of my ethics requirements I took through the BTI, for instance. I went to a Jesuit undergrad, so I'm not 'opposed' to the idea of Catholic ethics, I'm just rather burnt out on them to be honest, and truth be told, at times the homogeneity of BC drives me batty. Although I'm not sure YDS or PTS would be much different. If it helps, I know quite a few people here who turned down HDS or YDS to come here. I have visited YDS and it seemed to be more or less the same type of environment, albeit perhaps more Protestant. As you know, the plus about BC, or HDS, is the ability to choose between literally hundreds of courses. That's why I ended up coming here. cheers.
  4. BC officially takes anyone. We have plenty of non-Catholics, although admittedly most of the students here are Catholic, and I don't think I have met an MDiv student that is not. However, there are plenty of non-Catholics, such as myself. good luck.
  5. The BTI is def. great. I have taken 4 or 5 classes through it.
  6. Id take Emory easily over BU . The good thing about Boston is it's usually sunny here in the winter. I'm from the Midwest, where it's almost always cloudy in the winter, so I feel you.
  7. You do NOT want to live in the NE if there are other options . I'm counting the days til I leave this place. At least the winter this year has been really warm.
  8. Just to clarify, they sound out emails correct? I doubt ill attend even if I get in...too expensive and they are notorious for offering only 50%.
  9. I assume they get more funding. I know several MDiv's here at BC who got full rides, where many of the MTS students (including me) did not.
  10. Did anyone apply to Duke's MA in religion? I got an email about financial aid, but I'm assuming everyone gets this email? It says, decisions will be out very soon. Anyone?
  11. Hey now, at least you have some acceptances! I'm still waiting for 5 out of my 6! :'(
  12. Did anyone else apply to U of Minnesota's department of ANE/Religion?
  13. Agreed. Although I'm always a bit discouraged the MDiv students get more funding considering many of us MTS folk that plan to go on to doctoral work, in all likelihood (economy, but mainly competition), will fail. Then what are we left with? The only non-ministerial role that comes to mind is teaching HS. Which is fantastic for some, just not me. Oh well, tis the life we have chosen .
  14. Good points. You bring up the valid point that most students (these days) need more than two years of masters work to get into a good doctoral program. There is always the option of getting an MTS and then going for a one year masters in something related. That way you don't have to mess around with those 'pesky' ministry courses and instead focus purely on academic work.
  15. In other news: anyone know when Chicago releases decisions for M*?
  16. It saddens me that I have no 'card' to play. But alas, I suppose I would do the same thing . Being white and wanting to study bible is a fresh new approach, right!??!
  17. Congrats to all that have received acceptances. Unlike you'll, I am still waiting for most of my apps....the wait never gets easy :'(.
  18. It helps, in bible it is common, if not the norm, to get two masters. I know several people that have done an MDiv and then gone on to do an M*. This is usually the case in biblical studies because the amount of language work you need. The five PhD students in bible here at BC I know ALL have 4-5 years of masters work before they began their doctoral program. good luck.
  19. I don't think Emory's MTS is particularly "hard" to get into. Not that it is easy, but if you have decent/good stats, as you seem to, then the likelihood of acceptance is good. Honestly you seem to be having a dilemma with prestige, which is understandable. Ultimately if you want to teach at an SDA school, then you might be well suited to go to an SDA seminary. Then again, the faculty you posted all have their degrees from top 'secular' seminaries, so I'm not sure if it matters. My opinion: go to Emory. They have a much larger faculty, thus more available courses, and a reputation that exceeds most divinity schools in the country. You are obviously open to perspectives outside the SDA norm. Plus Atlanta isn't too cold .
  20. They are going through M* apps now. Decisions will come out beginning to mid March.
  21. I'll ask a roommate who works in admissions tomorrow. I do remember about a month ago she said they were starting to go through apps.
