Aw no I did not, did you get it through the mail? We're having a major snow storm right now so it could be a little delayed.

I did consider Cleveland State but they just don't have the types of programs other schools like Case/Pitt/OSU do that I applied to. Case in particular is my top choice because they have a health track program for social workers who want to work in hospitals (which i do), they have study abroad options for the health track, they're the first social work school meaning I get a MSSA instead of a MSW, and I could also continue to live with my boyfriend. These are the extra things that make Case important to me, I just need to decide if its worth all that extra money.

Ive been accepted to 3/6 schools I've applied to so far and only one included any scholarship information. It really sucks but I think a lot of schools accept and then wait to give out scholarship/funding information even though it's the main factor for most people's decision making.

While I'm not one to enjoy the misery of others, sometimes people do such a good job of combining heartbreak, disdain, and criticism, they create an epic rejection result post. Here's my personal favorite, someone rejected from Stanford GSE:

That pretty much sums up how I'd feel too. When I'm obsessively checking the results page, I often see this post and it makes me chuckle. It passes the time, and at least their loss will not have been in vain.

So I went on American University's website today to check on my application status. I wasn't really expecting to hear anything until February. But it says I got in! I apparently was accepted yesterday but I never received an email or anything and just happened to look at the website today.

But there is no information about funding or anything like that? Should I expect to receive physical mail / an email sometime soon with that information?

Someone from last year had suggested sending a pen from the school they decided to attend, which is what I'm going to do. A small gift but probably very useful to an academic, and thoughtful!

I love my Swiss Gear laptop backpack! If you're okay with a backpack vs a handbag this is definitely the one I'd recommend. I have it in gray so it's a neutral professional color and the design is pretty sleek so it doesn't look like a bag highschoolers carry. It has a doctor bag style hinged opening which makes it very easy to fill with textbooks, a change of clothes, or anything else. I know three other people who have the same bag and we all love it!

According to the thread I linked earlier from last year, the earliest anyone heard about money (at least on here) was March 1st.
I don't think there's a thread for 2017 (I could be wrong), but in 2016, the earliest was February 18th. So probably late February/early March? I'm sorry @bloome, I know that's probably not what you were hoping to hear.

I am very much in the same boat! I am so stressed about the amount of loans I'm going to have to potentially take out. My boyfriend is currently in medical school and will end up with about $200,000 in debt and so I want to add as little to that as I can. I want to go to Case Western so badly but its so incredibly expensive it's really worrying.

@doctormelody “This is what I want to do with my life and I don't want to get discouraged, but damn.“ The former part of that sentence is most important, saying this is what you want.  Money seldom fills the void of our inner desires.  If you want to go to school for social work, I would not let $50,000 in debt or any negative thoughts stop you.  Firstly, $50,000 isn’t really as vast as it seems because you probably have your entire life ahead of you. If you’re in your 20s or 30s, $50,000 would be like buying a nice, new car and making monthly payments.  As long as you work toward paying it off diligently, which can easily be done post-grad school using the minimalism approach, you’ll be fine.  Secondly, you never know how things can pan out: It very well could be that you have a rockstar first year and then qualify for a $20,000 endowed scholarship in your second year.  At the end of the day, you must have faith in yourself and that everything, somehow, some way will workout.
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Yeah its so tough cuz it sounds like I did get a decent amount, tuition is just so high! sure! I graduated from Kent State with a double major in Biology and Medical Sociology. Gpa of 3.3, Soc major gpa of 4.0. I have three years of research in end of life/palliative care. I got a paid fellowship over the summer of 2018 to work with a professor on her prognosis awareness project. I presented my work at both NEOUSS at Oberlin and KSU's symposium. I also completed an internship within pediatric palliative care at the local children's hospital and continue to volunteer with their program to teach coping skills to children who have lost a parent/sibling/loved one. I know both my research professor and mentor from my internship most likely wrote me stellar recommendation letters. While my gpa is nothing amazing I know I've had lots of unique research/internship opportunities. I've also been working as a pharmacy technician for 3 years and I'm registered with the state board so that has also given me great experience in the medical field. I applied for the Health track at Case since I really wanna be hospital social worker.

I was offered $29,000 and $4,000 field scholarship. I'm still so torn since this is my dream school but I would still have to cover a ton out of pocket. I also saw someone post below that 1/15 was a mistake so I am definitely going to contact them and ask because that will make my life much much easier!!!!

wow this makes me feel a lot better! I think I will definitely reach out to them and ask myself. I thought only having like 3 weeks was a little extensive since I havent heard from 4/6 schools I've applied to yet.

@bloome Congratulations on your acceptance to Case!  This is my number one choice, too. I’m a bit surprised that they want a decision by January 15th; my deadline to accept enrollment is a little later I believe (maybe we applied at different times, and that’s why?) I would maybe reach out to them and see if they could extend the deadline as @doctormelody suggested, or maybe just pay the non-refundable fee with the intent to enroll (to keep this as an option) and later you could decide to not enroll if you received a better offer elsewhere.

@bloome My acceptance to Case also said I had to decide by January 15, but online my acceptance said I had until April 15. I emailed them asking for clarification and they said that the deadline is April 15!  I would email just to be sure, but I was told that the 1/15 deadline was a mistake  ?
