  1. Hi! I know I'm a bit late to joining this forum, but I'm choosing between BU and TC Columbia. I received a scholarship at both schools and both cities are very enticing to me (especially since I'm from California). I know BU is ranked higher than Columbia, but Columbia has options for bilingual certification (and it seems the focus is really more on bilingualism, something I'm very interested in). Does anyone have any insight into one school over the other?
  2. Hi! I'm in a similar position... I have no idea where to go! I'm from California and was accepted to Boston University and TC Columbia, both with scholarships. I really like the idea of living in NY and going to school at Columbia (especially because they have a bilingual certificate and I am bilingual, with the intentions of being a bilingual SLP). I don't know exactly who I want to work with, but I'm thinking I eventually want to live in CA and work in a private practice (mostly with early intervention, but also with some adults). I've heard that BU has a more prestigious program, and it shows on the US World & News Rankings in which BU is #12 and Columbia is #30. However, I don't want to go to a school solely based on rankings. I feel like my gut is telling me to go to BU, but I worry I'd regret not going to Columbia. I got into San Diego State, but I think I'm interested in an adventure across the country, and I know that BU has a stronger program than SDSU. Please help!
  3. I emailed Dr. Crowley and she said it's March 25. Is Columbia your top choice?
  4. Open house is March 25, so don't you think we'd hear back earlier (like at least a couple weeks?) than that?
  5. Does anyone happen to know when Columbia University (Teachers College) or NYU will send out results? Maybe someone's heard rumors or something?
  6. I was also offered an interview on 2/23! I am very excited! How is everyone preparing?
  7. Thanks! I actually also know a very small amount of Italian, so I hope that makes me unique! But, do you happen to know what the chances are that I'll get an interview?
  8. Hi! I posted a couple months back asking for some advice. I have a new question, what percentage of students get invited to interview at Boston University? Is it incredibly competitive? Do you think I seem like a competitive enough applicant to get an interview? I would be so excited and honored if I do! Here are my stats again: For academics: I have a 3.89 GPA. I was awarded Phi Beta Kappa and am in the honors program. For my GRE scores: 153 on verbal, 156 on math, and 5.5 for writing. Speech experience: I have ~55 shadow hours at 3 different offices, and over 300 hours of working at a therapeutic riding barn (hippotherapy). Activities: I'm a campus tour guide, am on the Triathlon team, directed a club teaching 1st and 2nd graders environmental awareness, was/ am a part of 2 other boards for on-campus clubs, did research in a phonetics lab at UCSD, am fluent in Spanish (I was a translator for a stroke patient) and know a little Hebrew. I also worked at a boutique and in the past worked at HomeGoods. I also have a little bit of coding experience. I taught kids to code a few summers ago. Also, I have been fostering animals for over 17 years.
  9. Sorry, I'm new to Grad Cafe (hence why I responded twice). Thanks so much! You honestly have no idea how much better you made me feel. If I got into even just 5 of these schools I'd be thrilled.
  10. Hi! I'm from San Diego, CA. I am applying to 8 schools: Chapman, SDSU, U of Oregon, Portland State, Northeastern, Boston U, Columbia, and NYU. For academics: I have a 3.89 GPA (but it should be going up after this quarter). Also, I horseback ride and have been fostering animals for over 17 years. Fears: 1. I am about to turn in my apps (hopefully they'll be done tomorrow) and I'm SO scared that I won't get in anywhere. I know it's crazy selective, so I'm just terrified. I honestly just want to get into one school! 2. I'm also terrified that my verbal score on the GRE is way too low, but I know that I wouldn't have been able to get a higher score. 3. Also, I'm not a CSD major. I'm Linguistics and my school doesn't offer a lot of the SLP courses, so I've taken a lot of pre-reqs online. I'm scared this will lower my chances of getting in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! I've had far too many sleepless nights! Thank you!
