I missed this earlier this month, but it looks like the SSHRC scholarships are supposed to double in value to $40000 in 2024-2025? : https://universityaffairs.ca/news/news-article/graduate-student-scholarships-to-increase-for-the-first-time-in-two-decades-in-research-heavy-federal-budget/ I wonder if that means for the next competition and not this one?

SSHRC CGS -D & Doctoral Fellowships 2023-2024
marloe replied to capricorn97's topic in Waiting it Out
I was of the understanding that the quota system doesn't matter once you are in the national round. The quota determines how many students can get advanced from the individual university to the national round. Once you are in the national round, your school has no factor in your acceptance. -

Once the dust settles a bit, I might create a waitlist thread, as a few of those have existed over the years. -

SSHRC CGS -D & Doctoral Fellowships 2023-2024

I have been told from faculty, that anything with any sort of technical bent doesn't do well at SSHRC. Most of the reviewers are from the humanities, so they don't understand AI, code, computational methods. There needs to be some middle ground between SSHRC and NSERC, or SSHRC needs to be better at recruiting reviewers from more disciplines. -
SSHRC CGS -D & Doctoral Fellowships 2023-2024
marloe replied to capricorn97's topic in Waiting it Out
I got the email with the link at midnight last night, was able to access the documents to find out that I was not awarded a fellowship (though was recommended) at 5:45 AM ET and haven't been able to access the site since. Two years ago when I was also rejected, I never remember having this much of an issue accessing the site. Dealing with 4000 applications at once, is not that much load on a government site, I don't understand why they would allow this sort of situation to happen. -
SSHRC CGS -D & Doctoral Fellowships 2023-2024

From my vague recollection, the system is separate from the online system we applied to. In 2021, in early April we got an email saying results would be upload to the extranet soon. A bit after that we got an email with details on how to setup an account on the extranet. At some point after that the results appeared in the extranet, and people here started looking. Later in the month, we got the official email to actually check the extranet for results. Here is the exact first email text from 2021: Information regarding your doctoral application will be uploaded toward the end of April to the SSHRC Extranet for applicants. You will receive a separate system-generated notification with steps on how to activate your extranet account in order to access the information. If you encounter technical issues in accessing the SSHRC Extranet for Applicants, please contact the Helpdesk at webgrants@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca. For any other questions, do not hesitate to contact us at fellowships@sshrc-crsh.gc.ca. Sincerely, The Research Training Portfolio Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Again this was 2021, not sure how it went down in 2022, as I wasn't advanced to the national round last year. -

Just to add another data point in 2021, I found about my rejection on April 28th, but I think that year was slower because of the pandemic. I got an email from SSHRC in early April that year, saying that our results would be add to the extranet later in the month. -
Just checked in with my program admin and apparently the list of names was decided a few weeks ago. Sadly was not on it. So no SSHRC or OGS for me.
-
I haven't heard back from mine either.
-
Took a few days from when I emailed for the feedback to arrive. You don't get much, just the two sets of scores from each reviewer.
-
Just got my feedback scores, looks like one of committee members provided a significantly lower scores than the other and that shot down my chances. There really should be more transparency in these awards. One person having a bad day, or not understanding your discipline completely alters your ability to fund phd studies.
-
I think OGS is really department / school dependent. Ryerson gets a pool of money, and then they decide how it is given out.
-
I am waiting on Ryerson, I heard from the admin for my program is going to be announced in a week or so. Although that might be program dependent.
-
You cannot hold both, you need to select one or the other.
-
Rejected with a 13.5 for committee 3. Not sure what else I am going to be able to improve my application, with my resources. Is any feedback provided, or the scores just arbitrarily decided?
-
As side note, are the CGS-D announcements done at the same time as these announcements? For example are some of the folks getting acceptances, get acceptance for CGS-D while others are getting SSHRC Doctoral ?
-
I haven't gotten the extranet email yet either.
-
For what it is worth, I have also got no email with an extranet login.
-
Saw this tweet from SSHRC : So looks like "end of April" for results.
-
Yeah, perhaps they are waiting on some rejections later. There is always a chance that some of the accepted will take another offer.
-
For the information program I got a rejection last week. I spoke to my potential supervisor and they mentioned it was really competitive and they only admitted 7 people. Not sure if they have sent out all their rejections yet.
-
I heard that it is possible, and that you can potentially use this funding help bolster your case at a school that you didn't apply to it. I think it depends on a lot of factors, but not all programs fill their PhD programs by the time SSHRC, releases their results.

University of Toronto Master of Information 2021
marloe replied to arisosen's topic in Waiting it Out
The entry scholarships for the MI program are very limited, as it is a professional program rather than a research-based masters. I would say the percentage of people at the Masters level who get funding is very limited. It is why in the end a few years ago I declined my offer for a fully-funded research based programs. Not to the knock the program, as it professional programs have their value, but one of the drawbacks to them generally is higher tuition rates and less funding.- 171 replies

Help: Can I decline an offer after I enrolled?
marloe replied to wwwk454's topic in Decisions, Decisions
You might not get your deposit back, but you can for sure decline an offer after the fact and accept another. Life events happen, people will decline before September for a variety of reasons.
