Asking for my sister: She's applying to MA programs and PhD programs next year. The two are related (Political Science PhD and MPP/MPA), but she's wondering how she should approach her professors for recommendation letters. Is asking them to customize the letter for the programs too much to ask? She's thinking of two versions, one for the PhD, one for the MPP/MPA. I see that people on this forum have applied for PhD programs in different subjects (political science and sociology, for example). How do you ask your professors? (Or do you simply tell them not to include the program name in the letter e.g. ("John Doe is an excellent candidate for your program")?

Madison does this too. super annoying. I'd rather wait a few more days if they agree to release decisions to everyone on the same day.

In the same boat! Also, there is a UCSD rejection on the results page. Anyone heard from UCSD?

Not sure about northwestern but I sympathize! It's annoying when schools don't send out decisions at the same time. I understand that the technology may result in some delays, but the decisions should be received within a day or two. Insane that they keep so many applicants in limbo.

I started this thread just to record when people hear back from schools. But looks like it's blooming into a full thread. For the sanity of next year's applicants though, would it be great to abandon this thread and use this one instead?

this year seems really low? the decision threads from past years already hit 20-25 pages at this point

Thanks! From past threads it seems like rejections come later in the month. Will assume it's a rejection then.

Anyone wants to claim the UW Madison acceptance on Jan 17? I haven't heard anything from them yet. I didn't get an interview so I assume it's a rejection.
