  1. Thanks for letting us know! Its still a bit weird that a bunch of us haven't heard anything then. it seems that unlike other programs they are pretty quick to send out rejections or waitlists. I am cautiously hoping that the lack of news is a good sign? but honestly who knows anymore.
  2. someone just posted an acceptance to Virginia, not sure what to make of it now
  3. Lol glad im not alone at least
  4. Thats true, which is why I am surprised by this apparent route that they are taking
  5. So I assume then that waitlists and rejections coming out first isn't normal? I still haven't heard back from them, been obsessively checking both the portal and the results page and you're right, it does seem like no one has been accepted yet.
  6. gotcha, I dont have a "status update" tab, guess mine hasn't updated yet. Thanks for the info!
  7. where on the portal does it show a decision? Mine has no place for any update or anything like that, I don't think anything has changed on it. Where did you see yours? Im sorry for pestering on this, just kinda having a mini-panic attack
  8. did you get an email telling you to check your on-line portal? I just checked mine and it doesn't have any place for a decision or anything like that
  9. Thank you for your advice! I did look into that program and while it does look awesome and something that I'd love to participate in, in the FAQ's it says that nearly all students enter with previous graduate work or a graduate degree. Seeing as I plan to try to do grad school straight out of undergrad, that kind of requirement really makes the degree unattainable. Thank you so much for the advice and program recommendation though!
  10. Anyone know anything about that lone U of Oregon acceptance? my application portal still says "pending" and I've not received any emails from them or anything. Its also a bit early for an Oregon acceptance, according to the results page they usually come in like mid-Feb or so? Anyone care to claim it?
  11. Yaaaaaaa, cold is sweeping through the Great Lakes region. Michigan is a frozen hell-scape. My school just canceled classes for tomorrow, guess the -30 windchill put it over the edge
  12. Lol, life is full of tasty contradictions. I'll add to the U of M admission statistic with a Northwestern one and their 8.4% acceptance rate. https://www.tgs.northwestern.edu/documents/program-statistics/P40PH_adm_enr.pdf https://www.tgs.northwestern.edu/academics/phd-program-statistics.html#P
  13. Sure thing! I hope its good news when the funding info does come out!
  14. Hey Guys, So I know that most of the public affairs/public policy programs and grad schools specializes in MA degrees, but I am wondering if anyone knows of or has rankings for PhD in public affairs programs? To specific, PhD programs that do not require a MA degree to apply, I know that those types are even rarer in Public Policy programs. The obvious choice would be the Woodrow Wilson one, but seeing as thats at Princeton and is a reach, having backups or other options would be awesome! Thanks a bunch!
  15. I believe the DGS had said that the funding info will come out in late February, no idea about the amount. You should check PhD stipends, they have some info on it. I would take the results from that website as a general amount however, as it obviously changes from year to year and I am not sure if OSU has uniformed funding offers or if it is unique for each student. http://www.phdstipends.com/results
  16. Hey Guys, I am wondering if you have any knowledge about how foreign schools are perceived within both academia and industry in the political science field in the US. To clarify, I am not talking about British or Canadian schools, but more foreign regional ones. For example, I am interested in the MENA region and speak Hebrew, so The Hebrew University of Jerusalem would be a pretty logical choice if I need to apply for round two of applications. I am wondering if a degree from there or a comparable foreign school would be viewed positively by hiring committees in academia or industry within the US, or if I would really be restricted to the country of the university. Schools like ANU in Australia, or NUS in Singapore, or Sciences Po in France, or HUJI in Israel, or SNU in South Korea. Thanks!
  17. lol I can relate to this so much. Not specifically about schools changing up their schedules, but just with this whole process in general!
  18. If you're going to email them I don't think it'll matter if you send it on the weekend. In my experience with professors they will respond when they respond regardless of when you email them. For example I have a professor who only ever responds at 2 AM. I guess it just matters when they check their email and choose to sit down and send a response.
  19. From the stuff that I've read online, and from talking to various faculty members at my own university, I've essentially learned that it doesn't matter if you contact faculty members prior to admissions or submitting your application. While obviously fit is important and you should know or list a few faculty members that you want to work with on you SOP, actually contacting them does not make a difference. I've been told by multiple people that unless the faculty member is specifically on the admissions committee (and even then it probably won't do anything) they won't be able to help with your admissions and in many cases may not even talk to you until you are admitted. Hope that helps!
  20. For real? not gonna lie that throws the whole "made peace with my rejection" out the window now.
  21. I agree 100%, i've been frantically checking both the application portals and my email since the decisions started coming for the specific schools. For me thought its been a few days so I have just accepted the rejection, even though its yet to be formalized.
  22. Oof, welp that’s too bad then. I was thinking the same thing, it seemed on past cycles all their admissions went out over like one or two days, and then their rejections went out shortly after.
  23. heyyyyyyy, anyone know if there is going to be a second round of OSU acceptances? or if the ones that went out yesterday (22nd) the only batch before the waitlist?
  24. Do they pay your expenses for that event? I know that schools generally pay for post-admissions visits, but what about those sorts of interviews or pre-admissions events, do they generally pay for those as well?
