OK I know I already got accepted into the school but I just got an email from one of the Big Names that I mentioned as a POI & I just needed to tell the internet for a second bc I might actually pass out tbh

@swarthmawr I'd also put the Brandeis one out of your head for a while! My friend/former advisor on the adcomm said they're not close to making a decision there. They're still in the process of reading them!

I went to a different undergrad school that was also in Austin. It's a great city, definitely a huge pro for me!

Hi! I'm also in at UT & will be there in March. I focus on 20th century queer & feminist global literatures, and theory: queer/disability studies, and posthumanism. I'm glad the funding info stressed other people out as well; I had no idea what I was reading, lmao. By the looks of it I applied to much fewer schools than most people did, and I've already heard back from the two I really wanted. So at this point in time I am 90% sure I'm going to Rice, but I'm going to wait to visit both before officially deciding! There is a Big Name in disability studies at UT now, and I'm pretty excited about that, tbh.

Worries: Clearly this is just indicative that I need to get off this website (lol) but I'm worried that I didn't set my sights high enough? I didn't even attempt to apply to other programs, only a few that were close to home. I really just didn't want to leave my family/friends for another 5+ years. But I feel like that makes me a bad academic... Blah. Excitement: Obviously, I'm thrilled to already be accepted into the only school I really wanted to attend.

Wow, I've been admitted as well.

On the 15th my advisor said they were going to have to finish reading all the applications over the next two weeks, so that must be coming to an end soon. When I spoke to them on Friday, it didn't sound as though any official decisions had been made yet. Hope that helps some? I'm meeting with them on Friday and can probably get more info if no decisions are made by then!

Congrats! By the way, let me know if you have any questions about Brandeis. I got my MA there, and I actually know someone on the admissions committee this year!

I went to a coffee shop yesterday to read for a while. I had actually blocked Grad Cafe from my laptop the night before because I was checking it way too often and I was spiraling. I had also been answering the phone to telemarketers for about a week. I decided to finally give it all a rest, since there wasn't a chance I was going to hear before February anyway. Funnily enough, I guess my phone was on vibrate and I missed the call! I checked my voicemail and I had been admitted. I then left the coffee shop to go to campus to tell my (former) advisor, who's a really good friend of mine now. Overall a solid day.

Hi, made an account to claim this admission post! I wasn’t expecting them to admit until Feb. either! Very surprised! But as a posthumanist this program is a REALLY good fit for the work that I do, and I’m really pleased. (I’ve been hardcore lurking this forum for a while now.)
