  1. Okay Rutgers...any time now... 2018 phone call acceptances happened between February 15-17th (Thursday-Saturday), and 2017 phone call acceptances happened February 18th-19th (Saturday-Sunday) so I'm curious to see if anything happens this weekend. Looks like Yale's phone calls are around then too, but aside from it being Yale, I don't think I was the best fit there. I was really excited about Rutgers as a department, so I'm sort of hoping it's a yes from them, but I won't be shocked if they pass on me. Anyone else have that one school they're getting anxious about?
  2. Just got an email from Columbia that they are “sufficiently hopeful” they’ll be able to offer me admissions. Whatever that means, lol. They also asked me to “bear with them” so it seems like they’re trying to get me admitted. What a weird experience with Columbia! Still keeping my fingers crossed.
  3. @WildeThing congrats x1000 You did it and all that hard work paid off!! Must be a truly great feeling. Congratulations!
  4. @kendalldinniene oh my goshhhh congrats on Loyola!! That's AWESOME
  5. I'm posting WAYYY too much today, buuuuuuut... My POI at Columbia just reached out to let me know that I'm high up on the waitlist! Feeling better and optimistic. But still meh. Lol.
  6. Seconding what @barshmie said: give yourself more credit. Own your awesomeness!
  7. Didn't Rutgers just quietly release rejections on the portal with no notice last year? (I'm personally not counting on good news from Rutgers or Yale, just ready to finally hear from them lol.) At this point all I'm hoping for from the rest of this cycle is to turn my Columbia waitlist into an offer... But I also don't want my disappointment in being waitlisted to take away from the excitement those who were accepted are feeling. CONGRATS to all Columbia acceptances! You guys worked hard and deserve it.
  8. Thank you @Ranmaag ! Certainly doesn't feel like I'm crushing it, but I know I'll end up where I'm supposed to be. Gotta trust the process in all of it's awfulness. It really does place people where they're supposed to be when it's all said and done.
  9. Waitlisted at WashU as well. What a weird day! Not sure how to feel lol. EDIT: WashU just told me they accepted 5 (FIVE!!!!!) people. OMG.
  10. Waitlisted at Columbia. Pretty bummed, but not devastated. I’ve got my fingers crossed that I move up to an acceptance! Letter says that it’s a “short” waitlist but I might not hear back until April 15th. I have other offers I need to either accept or decline by then, so I’m really, really hoping I know sooner rather than later. Does anyone know about past experiences with Columbia’s waitlist?? EDIT: Waitlisted at WashU as well. Wasn't expecting to hear from them at all, but...cool, I guess! Not a bad thing.
  11. I was told by my POI not to expect a decision until next week, but I got mine today via a non-personalized email. I filled out the form to be on the waitlist and it says: “We have received your response, and you have been placed on the waitlist. When the program's admissions committee completes its review, you will be notified of the final decision regarding your application.”
  12. Waitlisted at Columbia. Damn, I must be bad at interviews ha.
  13. What’s everyone doing to say thank you to their letter writers?

  15. OMG @Englishtea1 congrats a thousand times over. Hard work pays off! You earned it.
  16. You’re all correct! It’s normal to discuss funding. I texted her and the first thing she said was “How much $$?” Ha!
  17. I’ve lived in NYC for five years now and don’t plan to move from my current apartment if I attend NYU, so I’m not too worried about understanding cost of living. It’s just more specific wording about one of the additional fellowship awards I’ve been offered. I’m unsure if it’s a one-time stipend or something I’ll get every year. Perhaps I’ll just send her that one line of the funding offer rather than the entire thing! If she asks for more info I’ll tell her, but I’ll keep the rest to myself unless asked. Thanks!
  18. My mentor and I are pretty close — we text and she’s really down to earth and I view her as both a good friend and mentor. Is it considered rude to share funding info, perhaps similar to sharing salaries? I’d really like to ask her a question about my funding package from NYU (which honestly looks really good and I am thrilled/shocked) but want to check here about whether or not that’s considered bad manners. WHY ISNT THERE AN ACADEMIA ETTIQUETTE HANDBOOK? We should take all the ridiculous “is this okay to do” questions we ask each other here and compile one, lol.
  19. @vondafkossum Mope for a bit and then turn that sadness into fuel for next year. This process will have made you a much stronger applicant for next year and you'll be able to tackle next cycle with a whole new perspective! Just remember it's not a reflection of you or your work. Stay positive.
  20. My POI told me they accepted 15 people this year.
  21. Does anyone know where to find dates of past accepted students days? I have a vacation planned at the end of March and I'm worried it's going to conflict.
  22. (NYU acceptance here - don’t add NYU to your implied rejection list! My POI just happened to be on the admissions committee [pure luck for me] and she said she was excited and wanted to let me know ASAP. I think I happened to be the first person to hear back and most people will hear later into the week.)
  23. @3131 @Ruta my Columbia interviewer just emailed me to let me know I’m one of two being recommended for admission. I’m confused because I kind of thought I already was being recommended! It isn’t a bad thing of course, I’m just confused about the process now. Did either of you get an email like this from your POI? He said committee meets on the 15th and notices will start on the 18th. On mobile so format is weird. Pls forgive lol
